CRUISING DANUBE THROUGH HISTORY NATIONAL PARK AND DJERDAP GORGE/IRON GATE – SMEDEREVO, RAM AND GOLUBAC FORTRESS – TABULA TRAIANA – LEPENSKI VIR – DECEBAL MONUMENT 1st Day. Beograd -Smederevo - Ram - Veliko Gradiste - Golubac – Djerdap Gorge/Iron Gate - Donji Milanovac -Tekija – Belgrade (Meeting passengers) Passengers check in - at the Port of Belgrade (Karadjordjeva street, next to the Branko's Bridge) at 7:30 a.m. Aquastar Maxim cruiser departs after check in. Cruise starts from the famous Belgrade fortress towards Kladovo, passing by Smederevo, the confluence of the Morava and Danube rivers, medieval fortress Ram, in the area where the Danube is the widest in Serbia. Ram fortress was built in the late 15th century on the site which was later known as safe point for entering/exiting then occupied Serbia. Also, nearby is the oldest tourist cottage in the country. Cruise continues then to the Silver Lake and Veliko Gradiste, passing Golubac Fortress where we enter the National Park Djerdap, also known as the Iron Gate. We cruise through the longest and deepest gorge in Europe, area of unique flora and fauna, where remains of one of the oldest European settlements can be seen. Passing Donji Milanovac, you will have the opportunity to visit the place where the Roman Emperor Trajan left a permanent imprint on the rock, known as Tabula Traiana. Arriving in Tekija after a 9 hour cruise. Continue transfer by bus to Belgrade with short brake. Arrival time in Belgrade after 22h. – REMARK: Minimum of 30 persons is required for this travel program to be realized. In tour price are included: Danube Cruise from Belgrade to Tekija village according to the travel program, bus transfers from Tekija to Belgrade, buffet breakfast and lunch on the cruise, services of tour guide, tolls and fees. Tour price does not include: drinks on the ship during cruise. The ship Aquastar Maxim www.cruisingevents.com was built in 2014. It is 28 meters long and 7 meters wide. The modern saloon area is equipped with 70 seats, a bar, two large high-resolution LCD monitors and a modern sound system. The boat is equipped with loungers located on the sunny upper deck. The list comprised field investigations, articles, grey literature, and unpublished data. Twenty-nine species of macroinvertebrates have been recorded since 1942, with a domination of the Ponto-Caspian faunistic elements. The majority of recorded species have broad distribution and are naturalized in the waters of Serbia, while occasional or single findings of seven taxa indicate that these species have failed to form populations. Presented results clearly show that the Danube is the main corridor for the introduction and spread of non-native species into Serbia. The floods have caused one death, at least three people are reported as missing, and some 400 people have been evacuated by police and civil protection rescue teams with vessels and helicopters and are temporarily sheltered in Kladovo. Landslides divided the village of Tekija into two parts, and rescuers are trying to break through the layers of soil with bulldozers.

One of the rules in tourism is that visitor demand depends on and is based on attractions. Talking about attraction interpretation necessitates is considering why a visitor at any time would like to visit a place, event or a site. Tourism in heritage sites is a relatively young and immature activity in Serbia, and the interpretation on these sites are lacking. This discussion examines the potential benefits of linking interpretation and heritage sites. Many heritage sites only recently have begun to pay serious attention to the implications of increasing visitor numbers and, that the level of tourism management and interpretation fall short of that appropriate for such important sites. Based on the literature and an exploratory study this paper argues that interpretation is essential to the management of such sites. The research focuses upon a case of Serbian fortresses, namely the observation of several well preserved fortresses along Danube river. It examines the activities and possibilities for visitation and interpretation on these fortresses, as it is considered that these fortresses have the great potential for tourism development. Ekológia (Bratislava), Vol. 32, No. 1, p. 66—86, 2013. Detailed limnological study of the Lake Srebrno (Serbia) bottom fauna was performed in March 2007. Investigations included qualitative, quantitative, and saprobiological analysis of bottom fauna communities, physical and chemical analysis of sediments and determination of chloro- phyll a concentration, as well as saprobic and trophic status analyses. Samples were collected at eighteen sites distributed along a shoreline and in deeper sections of the lake. Twenty taxa from nine macroinvertebrate groups were recorded. Family Chironomidae had the biggest index of participation, the highest species diversity and the largest density of populations in benthocenoses of Lake Srebrno. Faunistic similarity between sites was estimated according to Sørensen’s Quoti- ent of Similarity (QS). The majority of benthocenoses – 56% showed a medium level of faunistic similarity (QS = 21—60%), and 42% of benthocenoses showed a high level of faunistic similarity (QS = 61—100%). The classification of Lake Srebrno based on saprobic and trophic levels was as- sessed.

River dams are especially at risk of contamination by different conta- minants from anthropogenic sources including heavy metals since change of the sediment regime often occurs. The largest hydropower dam and reservoir system along the entire Danube, the Iron Gate, is lo- cated at the Djerdap Gorge (117 km long) in Serbia and Montenegro. In order to determine the degree of pollution of the Iron Gate by heavy metals, composite sediment samples were collected from seven reach- es of the river from Smederevo (river-km 1112) upstream from the Iron Gate dam to Radujevac (river-km 851) downstream from the gorge. The concentrations of As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Pb, Mn, Hg, Ni and Zn were determined in the sediments. The lowest heavy metal concentrations were measured around river-km 854, downstream from the gorge. The data from this study were compared with data obtained 20 years ago in the same area. It was found that the range of mean concentrations over the entire gorge of Fe, Mn, Ni, Zn, Cu, Cr and Cd increased by 46.6% (Zn at the site Tekija) to 156.2% (Ni at the site Veliko Gradiste).
