Meet Serbia that will fascinate you! 1st day, Belgrade/Smederevo fortress/Silver Lake/Golubac fortress/Kladovo Departure towards Smederevo (47 km). Smederevo is the small city on Danube river with the largest existed plain fortress in Europe that spread over 11 ha. The fortress was build in 1429. The fall of Smederevo fortress in 1459. marked the end of Serbian Medieval State. Visit of the Castle of Smederevo. Coffee break in the city center. Departure toward Silver Lake resort (63 km). Silver Lake Resort is situated at 3 km from Veliko Gradište. Former side arm of the Danube river, the lake is 14 km long and rich with the fish and due to the proximity of Belgrade very popular among tourists and fisherman. The world largest carp, weighing 44 kg was fished out of this lake. Lunch at Silver Lake resort. Departure toward Golubac. Arrival in Golubac, attractive little city, yachting center on Danube. Here one can admire the wonderful view of the Danube river that is 6 km wide. Visit of the Fortress of Golubac. The fortress is situated at the beggining of the National Park of DjĐerdap where the Danube enters the Djerdap Gorge. The medieval fortress, built in 1291. stands on an inaccessible rock on the right bank of the Danube. From Golubac we continue the journey trough the gorge of Danube. Four gorges (Golubac, Kazan, Sipin and Gospodjin Vir) with three basins dividing them make Djerdap the longest and oldest water breakthrough in Europe. This Gorge is considered a natural park with the longest geological history in Europe but also an open archeological museum. In the 2800 km of its lenght, the Danube is nowhere as deep and narrow as it is here: in Mali and Velikin Kazan the river is deep 105 m. Arrival in Kladovo. Boat visit of the Kladovo’s most interesting archeological spots: remains of the Traian bridge and the Fetislam fortress. Visit of the Kladovo’s Archeological museum. Departure for Lepenski Vir archeological site (70 km). Arrival in Lepenski Vir. Walking tour of the site. Coffee break. Lepenski Vir is one of the oldest urban settlement in Europe dating 7000 BC. The first inhabitants of Lepenski Vir did not live in caves but were familiar with complicated urbanism rules and construction systems and had an enviable mathematical knowledge. Beside that inhabitants of Lepenski Vir had a fascinating expressive fish-like head sculture. Departure toward Golubac. Lunch at Silver Lake resort. Departure toward Viminacium (42 km). Once a great Roman town and a capital of Moesia Superior, Viminacium is today one of the biggest archeological sites in Serbia. Founded in I century AD as a camp for VII legia Claudia, Viminacium developed quickly due to the favorable geographical position. In Emperor’s Hadrian time it was declared town and in 239. it was given a status of Roman colony and a right to minting. Several memorial edificies as well as fresco painted tombs, water supply sistem and a huge necropolis were find in Viminacium. Viminacium is one of the rare provincial capital cities without a large settlement built on its remains unlike Sirmium, Singidunum or Thessalonica. Departure towards Belgrade (93 km).
