A new species of the harvestmen genus Rilaena (Opiliones: Phalangiidae) from Turkey Kemal Kurt*

Şiran Vocational High School, Gümüşhane University, Gümüşhane, Turkey

(Received 13 November 2014; accepted 8 January 2015) A new harvestman species, Rilaena artvinensis sp. n. (Opiliones: Phalangiidae), is described and illustrated based on males collected in north-eastern Anatolia, Turkey. The new species is similar to R. buresi (Šilhavý, 1965) and R. lenkoranica Snegovaya, 2007. The differences between these species are elaborated. http://www.zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:A53452BB-A85D-4BE8-8A6B- D0FC3421AFE3 Keywords: Opiliones; Phalangiidae; Rilaena; new species; Turkey

Introduction To date, 6534 species of Opiliones have been described in 1649 genera worldwide (Kury, 2013), but only 95 species belonging to 35 genera are known from Turkey (Kurt, 2014). The family Phalangiidae Latreille, 1802 consists of 55 genera with approximate- ly 394 species (Kury, 2013) including 49 species from Turkey (Kurt, 2014). Rilaena Šilhavý, 1965 is a genus of the Phalangiidae and includes approximately 15 species in the world (Snegovaya & Pkhakadze, 2014). So far, three of them have been recorded from Turkey: R. anatolica (Roewer, 1956), R. buresi (Šilhavý, 1965), R. gruberi Staręga, 1973 (Kurt, 2014). A new species of the genus Rilaena from Artvin province, Turkey, is described herein.

Material and Methods Samples were collected by hand from grasses in the Artvin Province, Turkey. Examined speci- mens were preserved in 70% ethanol and deposited in the collection of the Arachnological Labor- atory of Şiran Vocational School, Gümüşhane University (GUSAL), Turkey.
