  • Vic Fangio Looks to Set the Tone As Broncos Offseason Program Kicks Off by Ryan O’Halloran Denver Post April 3, 2019
Vic Fangio looks to set the tone as Broncos offseason program kicks off By Ryan O’Halloran Denver Post April 3, 2019 Broncos coach Vic Fangio was asked last week what his message will be when he addresses the players upon Tuesday’s start of the voluntary offseason program. “You’ll have to be in the room to find out,” he said, knowing full well an invitation to the media wasn’t in the offing. Given time to consider a deeper answer, Fangio said he was “sure” multiple points will be presented in his first full-squad meeting since being hired in January. “But I’m not stressed about it or anything,” he said. “The messages are the messages that I’ve conveyed to the players over the years. Now I’m just talking to the whole team instead of half the team.” That has and will be Fangio’s spin when discussing his transition from defensive coordinator to the big chair. He now speaks to the whole team. He now leads the entire coaching staff. He now spends more time with the front office. But speeches are speeches. The Broncos are permitted to start their eight-week offseason program two weeks early because Fangio is a new coach. Tuesday will include introductions to new coordinators Rich Scangarello (offense) and Ed Donatell (defense) and the position coaches, a team meeting and weight room work. What will Fangio’s presentation sound like? Depends on his tact. Each new coach wants to introduce his thoughts on the team culture he wants to build.

  • Despite Inexperience, Broncos Confident in Rookie Linebacker Justin Hollins’ Versatility by Ryan O’Halloran Denver Post May 19, 2019
Despite inexperience, Broncos confident in rookie linebacker Justin Hollins’ versatility By Ryan O’Halloran Denver Post May 19, 2019 He appeared in 52 games for Oregon. He was an outside linebacker, a defensive end, and an outside linebacker again. He played for three head coaches and three defensive coordinators. Justin Hollins saw a lot during his five years on the Ducks’ campus, but not what he experienced during the Broncos’ rookie camp last week. A chance to play inside linebacker. “It was mainly during the (East-West Shrine Game) that I played inside,” Hollins said. And that’s it. Hollins was the Defensive MVP of that game, one reason that the Broncos drafted him in the fifth round last month. He is working at outside linebacker in the Broncos’ base defense and inside linebacker in nickel. Outside, he can serve as a rotational player behind Von Miller and Bradley Chubb. Inside, he could join Todd Davis, Josey Jewell or an extra safety in covering the intermediate-to-deep middle part of the field. So how did this come about? The Broncos credit outside linebackers coach Brandon Staley. “(Staley) came to us with the idea,” defensive coordinator Ed Donatell said. “He thought he (Hollins) could get it done. He’s done a great job getting him ready. … Certainly, he can do both. But he might only do parts of each — maybe one full time and part of the other.” That’s why the Broncos view the experiment of moving Hollins around as reasonable. As Donatell said, they aren’t force-feeding Hollins the entire playbook at multiple positions and he is being taught the roles by the same person (Staley).

2008-09 Catawba College Men’s & Women’s Swimming COACHES BETSY GRAHAM Head Coach Betsy Graham enters her eighth season as head coach of the Catawba College women’s swim team and third with the men's team. She came to Catawba from the University of Arkansas, where she served as an assistant from 1996 until coming to Catawba. Last season, Catawba's women finished seventh and the men fifth at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Meet and pro- duced six all-conference swimmers. The women set three school marks during the year, while the men had 18 record swims. Under Graham, Catawba has produced an All-American and two All-Academic team members. The teams have swum to a pair of NCAA cuts and 11 NCAA "B" cuts. Catawba's women are 33-13 in duel meets during Graham's tenure with the men posting a 4-7 mark in their initial two seasons. Prior to her stint at Arkansas, Graham served as the head coach of the Aqua-Tex Swim Team (ATEX) in Houston, TX.
