SUMMER ACTIVITIES GUIDE

THE RITZ-CARLTON, LAKE TAHOE RITZ KIDS A special year-round program full of adventure and activity for your little ones. The Ritz Kids room is designed to make your child’s Lake Tahoe vacation exciting and memorable. Each session begins promptly with an introduction of fellow campers, a discussion of the day’s activities and a quick review of Ritz Kids rules. Each day includes a variety of activities such as arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor activities, scavenger hunts and more. This supervised program is available for children ages 5 through 12. All sessions begin and end at the Ritz Kids room located on the lower lobby level near the Front Desk and Arcade. All activities are included in the session prices. Reservations are required at least 24 hours in advance through the Lobby Concierge for full-day, half-day and Kids’ Night Out programs. INDOOR CAMPOUT Designed for children ages 4 to 8, the Indoor Campout package brings the fun and excitement of a camping experience to the comfort of your guest room. Package includes a 4’x3’ tent complete with Ritz-Carlton linens and featherbed, an activity book with crayons, camp light, teddy bear and a s’mores kit that can be enjoyed by the whole family at the Fire Pit. Package is based upon availability; advance reservations are strongly recommended by calling Guest Relations or the Front Desk. $100 per child (maximum of two tent packages per room). MOUNTAINSIDE STARGAZING Friday evenings throughout the summer season, guests can learn about the night sky and view the cosmos through high-powered telescopes on the open meadow in the Backyard of the resort. Ticket information for this tour can be found on Northstar California’s website or from the Lobby Concierge. MARSHMOLOGY Learn about the history of the marshmallow and traditional s’mores ingredients from The Ritz-Carlton Marshmologist while enjoying complimentary s’mores, complete with our Pastry Chef’s own house-made marshmallows. Marshmallow flavors change daily! “WHERE IS THE BEAR?” Every morning The Ritz-Carlton Bear is hidden in secret places throughout the Living Room for a game of hide-and-seek. Children simply need to find the bear and disclose the location to the Lobby Concierge to choose a prize. LAWN GAMES Spur on some friendly competition with a Backyard lawn game or a board game in the Living Room. FAMILY NIGHT IN THE ARCADE Challenge your family members and friends to a fun Friday night in the Arcade while enjoying complimentary snacks. MANICURE AND PEDICURE IN THE RITZ-CARLTON SALON For ultimate relaxation, head to the Salon in The Ritz-Carlton Spa and indulge in a manicure and pedicure of your choice. All ages are welcome; adults must be present in the Salon with children 15 years and younger.

THE VILLAGE AT NORTHSTAR DOWNHILL MOUNTAIN BIKING Northstar California has everything you need for summer mountain and road biking adventures. From beginner to advanced cross -country and downhill mountain biking trails, it offers lift access, bike rentals and bike shop services. Those new to the sport can start out with the Bike 101 program. NORTHSTAR BIKE ACADEMY The Northstar Bike Academy is the place for all riders, brand new or seasoned, looking to improve their techniques and enhance their riding skills. Northstar California offers a variety of group and private lessons/clinics as well as camps throughout the summer season. STRIDER BIKES STRIDER bikes at Northstar California are a fun and friendly way to encourage kids 18 months to 5 years old to explore mobility on two wheels and experience the challenge and thrill of riding. On a STRIDER, children will learn to improve their bike handling skills and further develop balance, control, motor skills and confidence. NORTHSTAR KID’S ADVENTURE CLUB Chipmunks (4-6) Hiking adventure and discovery along the West Martis Creek Loop or Sunset Loop Trail. Bears (7-12) Hiking adventure and discovery along the West Martis Creek Loop, Sunset Loop Trail, crossover to Zephyr or Sawmill Trail.

TAHOE APEX ADVENTURE BUNGEE + ROPES CHALLENGE Kids and adults let go of their limitations and fly into the sky on a bungee trampoline located in the Village at Northstar. All ages are welcome; jumpers must weigh between 20 and 210 pounds. VILLAGER CANDLE SHOP, POTTERY & MORE The Villager Candle Shop, Pottery Painting & More carries an endless selection of candle shapes, 20 scents and countless colors. Enjoy making candles, painting pottery, creating mosaics and crafting your own bear friends. ROCK WALL AND SPIDER WEB CLIMBER The 24-foot high Rock Wall will delight guests of all ages, and the enclosed Spider Web Climber is a fun option for children ages 12 and under. Participants of the Rock Wall must be at least 42 inches tall and weigh between 40 and 200 pounds. TAHOE STAR TOURS Experience the wonder and awe of the dark skies above Northstar California during the popular summer Tahoe Star Tours at the Dark Skies Cosmoarium. ROLLER SKATING Located in the heart of the Village at Northstar, the 9,000-square-foot skating rink is the perfect end to a day on the mountains. GEOCACHING Geocaching has been described as a high tech treasure hunt with the use of a GPS (global positioning system) handheld device to locate caches or treasure boxes throughout hiking trails. Enjoy time in the great outdoors on this ultimate scavenger hunt. MINIATURE GOLF Try your hand at the nine-hole miniature golf course that takes golfers on a meandering walk through the Village at Northstar or in Kings Beach and Carnelian Bay. GEM PANNING Kids will love panning for special stones, gems and even arrowheads in a sluice of running water. The activity is located on Village Overlook in The Village at Northstar. TENNIS Enjoy tennis in a stunning mountain environment. Northstar Tennis provides adult and junior tennis camps, clinics and private lessons. THE VILLAGE CINEMAS The Village Cinemas movie theater offers popular, first-run Hollywood releases presented in ultra stereo sound with comfortable seating and a full-service concession stand. FESTIVALS Each year, Northstar California hosts the lively Beer and Bluegrass Festival as well as the Autumn Food & Wine Festival!

ON WATER PADDLE BOARDING Lake Tahoe’s crystal clear waters are the perfect place to get started on a SUP (stand up paddleboard) journey. You can see 75 or more feet down through the water on a calm morning paddle, adding to the beauty of being out on the lake. KAYAKING One of the most serene ways to enjoy Lake Tahoe is by kayak. Gliding through the cool, clear water discovering hidden beaches and rocky coves is a favorite summer adventure. BEACHES Lake Tahoe is 22 miles long by 12 miles wide and is the largest alpine lake in North America and second deepest in the United States. Panoramic mountain views can be experienced from every beach around the 72-mile shoreline. BOATING Lake Tahoe’s stunning coastline is best explored by boat. Enjoy sightseeing, water sports, swimming and lounging with friends and family on a speedboat, catamaran, wooden yacht or sailboat, and explore the magnificent shores of Lake Tahoe. FISHING Lake Tahoe is home to a variety of fish including Lake, Brown and Rainbow Trout and the elusive Kokanee Salmon that live deep in the lake and spawn in the rivers and streams that run through the mountains. Charter a fishing boat and let a guide take the family to all the best fishing spots around the lake. FLY FISHING Children ten years and older can learn how to cast their fly fishing lines at Sawmill Lake, which is reserved for guided catch-and- release fly fishing only. Younger children can explore how to tie their first fly and uncover the secrets about what trout eat at the Fly Fishing Discovery Center. FLOAT TOURS AND RIVER RAFTING Raft excursions consist of a leisurely, self-guided, five-mile float down the Truckee River or the American River for a higher class raft adventure. This leisurely floating voyage is perfect for family and friends of all ages, while white water rafting provides an adventurous trip down the river for kids five years and older. WATER SKI SCHOOL A favorite Lake Tahoe sport, children learn to water ski, wakeboard or wakesurf from certified instructors at the water ski school. Lessons include all needed equipment including skis, wakeboards, wetsuits, life vests and gloves. JET SKIING A fun and thrilling way to explore the lake is by jet ski. Typically, kids as young as three or four years old are permitted to ride along with adults. SCUBA DIVING SCUBA diving in Lake Tahoe is a unique experience. There is a wide variety of SCUBA diving sites around the lake, with Sand Harbor being one of the most popular spots for beginners. Divers around Tahoe can see large, submerged boulders, sunken boats, planes and barges, as well as schools of trout and underwater forests. While diving at altitude can be tricky, SCUBA shops offer lessons and guided options for all ability levels. ON LAND GOLF AND GOLF ACADEMY AT OLD GREENWOOD AND GRAY’S CROSSING Two golf courses of unequaled beauty and natural wonder provide the chance to experience golf like you've never experienced before at Old Greenwood (a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course) and Gray’s Crossing (a Peter Jacobsen- and Jim Hardy-designed course). HIKING Featuring spectacular views and diverse terrain, there is no better way to experience the local region in the summer than by exploring the trails around the Lake Tahoe Basin. Step out our back door and explore the trails at Northstar California. Hiking around Emerald Bay is popular and considered to be the most picturesque spot on the lake. Please visit the Lobby Concierge for recommendations on hikes suited to your desired distance and difficulty level. DRIVE AROUND THE LAKE The 72-mile journey around Lake Tahoe offers plenty of places to stop and enjoy the view and gives visitors insight into just how vast and beautiful Lake Tahoe really is. Much of the shoreline consists of public parks, beaches and other attractions. Without stops, the drive takes about two and half hours, but we recommend that you head out early and make a day of it. Picnic lunches can be arranged in advance through Café Blue, or there are great breakfast and lunch spots in Kings Beach, CA, Incline Village, NV, Homewood, CA, Tahoe City, CA, and Carnelian Bay, CA. HORSEBACK RIDING Embark on private or group horseback ride on serene trails located in gentle hills thick with pine forest, offering beautiful views of the Lake Tahoe area. Rides are catered to individual needs and led by an expert guide. ATV Enjoy the rugged Lake Tahoe landscape on an ATV. Children 5 years and older are able to sit on the back of the ATV and children 16 and older with a valid driver license are able to drive their own ATV and reach spots only accessible by four-wheel all-terrain vehicles. ROPES COURSE Offering a variety of options, from kids’ zip lining to a thrilling adventure ropes course in the tall pines, the park is comprised of a series of tree platforms that can be reached by a number of bridges and zip lines. Ascend to an initial tree platform and then travel through the forest on an aerial trek anywhere from 15 to 50 feet in the air. A special adventure zone caters to young thrill seekers 5 years and older as well as beginning climbers. INDOOR AND OUTDOOR ROCK CLIMBING Indoor climbing walls are designed to mimic the experience of outdoor climbing. Children as young as 5 are able to participate along with the family for a fun-filled afternoon. Whether you seek sport climbs, traditional climbs or bouldering, there are many climbs around the area to explore. MOUNTAIN BIKING Lake Tahoe is one of the world’s premier mountain biking destinations. There are miles and miles of nationally-rated mountain biking trails for all skill levels. Bike rentals are available throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin. PLAYGROUNDS North Tahoe Regional Park offers a large playground with play structure, swing sets and spring rider, as well as tot swings for younger children. Kings Beach State Recreation Area features 700 feet of beach access and is complete with a kids’ playground. It is also an ideal place to walk along the shoreline while taking in amazing views of Lake Tahoe. MUSIC ON THE BEACH Enjoy free, live music performances featuring a variety of genres at Music on the Beach. Concerts take place Friday evenings from mid-June through the beginning of August and begin at 6:00pm at the Kings Beach State Recreation Area. TAYLOR CREEK Running from Fallen Leaf Lake to Lake Tahoe’s Kiva Beach is Taylor Creek. This alpine stream is one of the most popular local attractions, and the “Stream Profile Chamber” on the Rainbow Trail provides an underwater viewing area for a glimpse into the alpine stream habitat. The National Forest Service has created interpretive hiking trails throughout the meadow where the creek approaches Lake Tahoe. SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL Experience a live Shakespearean performance under the stars at Sand Harbor State Park. The enchantment of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival at Sand Harbor State Park has been a long-running summer tradition. WANDERLUST FESTIVAL Wanderlust brings together yoga and meditation instructors, musical performers, speakers, artists and chefs to balance and enliven the mind, body and soul. ALE TRAIL Pick your favorite outdoor passion and hike, paddleboard, mountain bike, road bike or kayak and toast to your adventure with a Tahoe-brewed craft beer. RENO RODEO The “Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West” has been coming to Reno for over 95 years. For ten days in mid- to late June, cowboys and cowgirls battle for top prizes in the rodeo arena.

REV 2/16 BOWLING Bowl Incline offers 16 AMF lanes with automatic scoring and lane bumpers, if desired. Billiards and an arcade are also available. TRUCKEE RIVER LEGACY TRAIL A local favorite, the Truckee River Legacy Trail is Truckee’s biking and walking path that runs five miles (each way) from Truckee Regional Park to the nearby neighborhood of Glenshire. A majority of the route runs parallel to the Truckee River, offering beautiful views of this untouched landscape along the way. There are also several interpretive signs along the trail. WOODWARD TAHOE Woodward is a 33,000-square-foot indoor action sports training facility located steps from Boreal Mountain. Open to the public, expert coaches introduce visitors to the basic movements of skateboarding, gymnastics, BMX, snowboarding and skiing and how to use the foam pits, terrain parks, pump tracks and trampolines to build skills and advance athletes’ performance. Basic training is required for all first time visitors. TAHOE CITY WINE WALK This alfresco event allows you to take in the views of Lake Tahoe while sampling wines and local gourmet bites. FARMERS’ MARKET California has long enjoyed the freshest vegetables and fruits in the nation. Visit one of the local farmers’ markets and shop for locally prepared foods and produce and talk with local farmers. TRUCKEE THURSDAYS From mid-June to mid-August, Thursday nights in downtown Truckee are a buzz of excitement for the whole family. Foothills Farmers’ Market, food trucks, unique arts and craft vendors, sidewalk sales, outdoor dining, children’s activities and live entertain- ment converge on Donner Pass Road for an exciting block party atmosphere. TRUCKEE RIVER WINERY Truckee River Winery was established over 25 years ago and is known to be the winery with the highest altitude and coldest climate. A small tasting room and entertaining outdoor area—complete with barbeques and bocce ball courts—is the perfect way to spend a summer day.

ATELIER TRUCKEE Atelier strives to be the creative hub of the local art community by hosting workshops taught by the area’s most sought after artists, illustrators, designers, weavers, painters, photographers and more who share the vision to create and inspire others. PAINTED VINE The Painted Vine encourages you to unleash your inner artist. Local painting instructors teach you how to create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that you can take home with you. IN THE AIR HELICOPTER RIDES View scenic Lake Tahoe the way that it was meant to be seen—by helicopter. The chance to experience the spectacular scenery of Emerald Bay’s magnificent teal waters, Zephyr Cove’s pristine and unspoiled shorelines, Sand Harbor’s rocky beaches and the beauty of the mountains can be best appreciated by air. Flights depart daily from the South Lake Tahoe Airport. HOT AIR BALLOON RIDES This unique morning starts with a boat trip on Lake Tahoe, then, once the designated launch site is reached, crews begin to inflate the hot air balloon. When ready, the balloon gently lifts off the upper deck of the world’s only USCG certificated hot air balloon launch and recover boat. Guests have said that watching the crews chase and maneuver the boat to recover the hot air balloon is just as entertaining as the unbelievable views from the basket of the balloon. Children are welcome, but kids under the age of seven are discouraged. To enjoy the views, children should be at least four feet tall (height of the basket is approximately four feet). Due to FAA regulations, parents are not permitted to hold or carry children during the flight. PARASAILING Offering stay-dry parasailing, guests age two and older have enjoyed the expansive vistas of the lake while floating as high as 800 feet over Lake Tahoe’s crystal clear water. There is a flight for all levels of bravery. GLIDER RIDES Soaring above Truckee in a glider is one of the most breathtaking and serene attractions the area has to offer. The glider may hold up to two passengers per flight, and the weight cannot exceed 340 total pounds. TOURS & MUSEUMS HELLMAN-ERHMAN MANSION TOUR Take a step back in time and enjoy a tour of the historic grounds and mansion. Constructed in 1903, the property is one of the finest examples of a bygone era of summer retreats found along the shores of Lake Tahoe. THUNDERBIRD LODGE TOUR Explore the historic estate, fondly referred to as Lake Tahoe’s magical Castle-in-the-Sky, and the world-famous Thunderbird Yacht. VIKINGSHOLM TOUR This magnificent Scandinavian style “castle” was one of the first summer homes to be constructed in Lake Tahoe. Adding to the grandeur is the setting of this home on the shore of Emerald Bay, which was designated a National Natural Landmark for its brilliant panorama of mountains and the granite, glacier-carved Fannette Island. The natural beauty, geology and history of this unique island make it one of the highlights of any visit to the Lake Tahoe area. TALLAC HISTORIC SITE TOUR A century ago, the Tallac Historic site, comprised of the Baldwin Estate, Pope Estate and Valhalla, was considered the “Grandest in the World.” Today, a tour of the remains of the resort and restored estates allow you to recapture this bygone and significant era in Lake Tahoe’s history. UC DAVIS FIELD STATION - ERIKSSON EDUCATION CENTER Housed in the Historic Hatchery built in the 1920s, the Eriksson Education Center features life cycle exhibits of Lake Tahoe’s fish, an interpretive path through gardens featuring native plants to the area, as well as information on Tahoe creek restoration. Self- guided tours are available daily in the summer; guided tours are also available on Saturdays. TAHOE ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE CENTER Sierra Nevada College, in partnership with UC Davis, allows visitors to discover important scientific research that is being used in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Docent-led tours through the Tahoe Environmental Research Center offer hands-on activities as well as the short 3-D movie, “Lake Tahoe in Depth.” A monthly lecture series is also available to visitors. VIRGINIA CITY, NV There is no doubt Virginia City is the most well-known of the early Nevada mining towns after the discovery of Comstock Lode in 1859, the first major silver discovery in the United States. At its peak, Virginia City was considered the wealthiest city in America. By the mid-1870s, Nevada produced over half of all precious metals in the country. A visit to Virginia City is like stepping back in time. Visitors can tour old mines, ride the restored V&T (Virginia & Truckee) Railroad that transported gold and silver from the mines, or walk historic C Street for insight into the rich history of Nevada's gold and silver era. KIDZONE MUSEUM The KidZone Museum is a children's museum with a mission to inspire learning through creative play and discovery. A visit to the museum will be memorable for kids of all ages, including infants. Activity centers within the museum include a baby zone, art studio, jungle gym, climbing wall and exploration station. TAHOE MARITIME MUSEUM The Tahoe Maritime Museum was founded in 1987 by those dedicated to preserving Lake Tahoe’s rich maritime history. Visitors can explore vintage boats from all angles, while younger visitors can engage in hands-on activities such as knot tying in a dedicated children’s area. EMIGRANT TRAIL MUSEUM Visitors are welcome year-round at the Emigrant Trail Museum and Pioneer Monument located at Donner Memorial State Park. It was built to commemorate the pioneers who emigrated to California from the East by wagon trains in the mid-1800s. The museum depicts the history of the area, including local Native American history, the Transcontinental Railroad and its builders, and the Donner Party (forced by circumstances to camp at the east end of Donner Lake and their struggle through the harsh winters of 1846 and 1847, resulting in human suffering and loss of life). NEVADA MUSEUM OF ART Featuring modern and contemporary works by artists including Roy Lichtenstein, Georgia O'Keeffe and William Wegman. Exhibits and themes of the museum typically change quarterly. Located in Reno, NV. TRUCKEE RAILROAD MUSEUM Located next to the historic railroad station in downtown Truckee, this museum adds historical significance to the area, as the caboose is from the Southern Pacific Railroad. Inside the museum are stories, pictures, re-creations and railroad artifacts depicting the impact of railroads in the development of the town of Truckee.
