ADVICE This bulletin is being issued as advice. Only national/state/local authorities and disaster management officers have the authority to make decisions regarding the official threat and warning status in their coastal areas and any action to be taken in response. 4. POTENTIAL TSUNAMI THREAT IN THE INDIAN OCEAN ... 1. EARTHQUAKE INFORMATION (updated) RTSP INDONESIA has detected an earthquake with the following updated information: Magnitude : 9.0 M Depth : 10km Date : 26 Jun 2014 Origin Time: 04:00:00 UTC Latitude : 24.80N Longitude : 62.20E Location : Off Coast of Pakistan 2. EVALUATION Earthquakes of this size are capable of generating tsunamis. However, so far there is no confirmation about the triggering of a tsunami. An investigation is under way to determine if a tsunami has been triggered. This RTSP will monitor sea level gauges and report if any tsunami wave activity has occurred. Based on pre-run model scenarios, the zones listed below are POTENTIALLY UNDER THREAT. 3. TSUNAMI THREAT FOR THE INDIAN OCEAN The list below shows the forecast arrival time of the first wave estimated to exceed 0.5m amplitude at the beach in each zone, and the amplitude of the maximum beach wave predicted for the zone. Zones where the estimated wave amplitudes are less than 0.5m at the beach are not shown. The list is grouped by country (alphabetic order) and ordered according to the earliest estimated times of arrival at the beach. Please be aware that actual wave arrival times may differ from those below, and the initial wave may not be the largest. A tsunami is a series of waves and the time between successive waves can be five minutes to one hour. The threat is deemed to have passed two hours after the forecast time for last exceedance of the 0.5m threat threshold for a zone. As local conditions can cause a wide variation in tsunami wave action, CANCELLATION of national warnings and ALL CLEAR determination must be made by national/state/local authorities. Care Sheet for the Panther Chameleon Furcifer pardalis By Petr Necas & Bill Strand Legend Sub-legend Description Taxon Furcifer pardalis Panther Chameleon (English) Common Names Sakorikita (Malagassy) Original name Chamaeleo pardalis Author Cuvier, 1829 Original description Règne, animal, 2nd ed., 2: 60 Type locality Ile de France (= Mauritius, erroneous), restricted to Madagascar Typus HNP 6520 A formally monotypic species with no recognized subspecies, however recent studies reveal many (4 big, up to 11) entities within this species, defined geographically, that show different level of relativeness, some so distant from each other to be possibly con- sidered a separate species and/or subspecies. Taxonomy Historically, many synonyms were introduced, such as Chamaeleo ater, niger, guen- theri, longicauda, axillaris, krempfi. The term “locale” is used in captive management only; it has no taxonomic relevance and refers to the distinct subpopulations named usually after a village within its (often not isolated and well defined) range, differing from each other through unique color- Taxonomy ation and patterns, mainly males. The distinguished “locales” are as follows: Ambanja, Ambilobe, Ampitabe, Androngombe, Ankaramy, Ankarana (E and W), Andapa, Anki- fy, Antalaha, Antsiranana (Diego Suarez), Beramanja, Cap Est, Djangoa, Fenoarivo, Mahavelona, Mangaoka, Manambato, Mananara, Maroantsetra, Marojejy, Nosy Be, Nosy Boraha, Nosy Faly, Nosy Mangabe, Nosy Mitsio, Sambava, Sambirano, Soanier- ana Ivongo, Toamasina (Tamatave), Vohimana.

June 1992 CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION TO THE SOVIET- ERICAN EXPEDITION TO THE SEUCHELLES ISWDS The First Soviet-American Expedition in arine Biology to the Seychelles Islands was organized by the Institute of arine Biobgy, Far East Branc of the USSR Academy of Sciences, at the request of the SeycheIles Government. The Republic of the Seychelles Islands sought informari on the marine plane resources and productivity of benthic and planktonic corn Seychelles Bank. After discussing the program of w rrnent of Development of the Republic of the Seychelles Islands with the Deputy lvine Jandron, the following research objectives were established for the expedition: 1) To study the benthic marine biota and fouling processes of the Seychelles Islands, which represents a poorly investigated region of the Indian Ocean. 2) To provide the first analyses of the species composition of algal communities for several remote island groups (Farquhar Atoll, CBeeivy Atoll, Cosmoledo Atoll, hirantes Group) and to supplement previous knowledge on the algae of Aldabra Atoll, ah6 Island and Praslin Island. 3) To study the distribution of autotrophic organisms over the various reef systems and determine the depth ranges of algae, seagrasses and corals. 4) To evaluate the common algal and seagrass resources in the area of study, particularly species of commercial interest. 5) To estimate the production potential of the major producers of organic matter on Seychelles reefs; i.e., benthic macroalgae, seagrasses, reef building corals and phytoplankton. 6) To assess the prevalent environmental parameters of the various island groups studied: e.g., optical characteristics of the water, seawater temperatures, nutrient contents, oxygen levels, pH and current velocities.
