POSITION DESCRIPTION Class Title Public Safety Information Range 125 Services Specialist Department Police Effective Date May, 2021 Location SLPD FLSA Status Non-Exempt General Purpose: This position involves coordination with parties responsible for regional 9-1-1 selective routers and public safety equipment installed at the Show Low Police Department. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of public safety operations, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management Software (RiMS). Knowledge of mobile data terminal setup, operation and troubleshooting connected through cellular internet, with and without VPN. Able to work with public safety personnel from multiple agencies (Fire / Law enforcement) in a confidential manner. Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of the SLPD Communications Manager. Supervision Exercised: None Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provides technical support to computer end users over the phone and in person, driving to the users’ location when necessary; Performs routine network systems checks to ensure functionality. Maintains records for computers and assigned users; and maintains records of customer service call and service calls using on-line request system; Performs random audits to ensure anti-virus software is current and updates when needed; Troubleshoots hardware and system connectivity issues; researches computer related problems; documents issues and solutions Maintains, repairs, upgrades, and sets up computers, peripheral devices, software applications, and accessories, including printers, keyboards, scanners, monitors, and/or other related equipment; performs cabling for both voice and data as needed Monitors day-to-day computer software OS and Application support issues related to standard and non-standard software. Includes product installation, product upgrades, product fixes, troubleshooting, and interaction with vendor technical support. Administers, designs, tests, implements, maintains, and modifies computer systems, hardware, software applications, security measures, components, and/or databases. Monitors and ensures quality of applicable information technology and its related components Performs administrative tasks related to computer operations, which may include: setting up and resetting user names and passwords, locking accounts, and/or performing other related activities; trains employees on procedures of computer usage. Coordinates with the overall City of Show Low Information Technology. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service. Participates in the accomplishment of organizational, departmental and workgroup goals and objectives. Performs all duties in strict compliance with appropriate safety and security standards. Ensures all applicable safety and health rules and regulations are followed. Desired Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience: a) Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in related computer science field; b) Four (4) years of increasingly responsible IT and Network Support experience c) Any equivalent combination of education and experience. Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: a) Knowledge of personal computer hardware and software, basic database principles, computerized systems (Police, Fire, EMS) and electronic data processing; knowledge of local and wide area network technology, server and workstation configuration; b) Knowledge of local and wide area network hardware and software is required. Necessary knowledge of network technology includes that of TCP/IP protocol, Ethernet 10/100/1000 topology, and Firewall traversal. c) Knowledge of the following Operating Systems is necessary: Windows 7 to current, Windows Server 2003 to current. Specific software applications include Microsoft SQL, and Microsoft Office 2010. d) Knowledge of public safety Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management Software (RMS) is preferred. e) Knowledge of mobile data terminal setup, operation and troubleshooting connected through cellular internet, with and without VPN is preferred. f) Knowledge of E911 systems, both analog and digital; computer telephone integration, and wireless/wireline carrier services is preferred. Special Requirements: (a) Valid Arizona Driver’s License or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment (b) Incumbents are frequently required to be on-call and respond at varied hours including nights, weekends and holidays.
