1 BIOGRAPHY CESC GELABERT (Barcelona) Choreographer /Dancer Gelabert is one of the most influential Spanish choreographers and dancers of the moment. An emblematic and highly versatile artist, he has made a notable contribution towards the creation of a dance culture in Spain. Dancer choreographer and director. Cesc Gelabert was born in Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain). He began his dance studies in 1969 when a girlfriend brought him into contact with Ana Maleras’s studio, where she was taking classes. Soon he was a part of Maleras’s group, studying jazz, contemporary and other techniques, while starting to experiment with his choreography. His dedication to football continued, and every weekend he would still play as captain of his team. Simultaneously, he was studying architecture for some years at the University in Barcelona, eventually giving up to become a dancer. Gelabert’s early dance training was with Anna Maleras, joining her group in 1969. In 1972, Gelabert created his first choreography, followed by his first solo Accio 0 (1973) collaborating with artist Frederic Amat. Accio 1 (1976) in collaboration with his sister Toni Gelabert and F. Amat performed at Sala Vinçon and Teatre Lliure, Barcelona and other venues. He continued performing some evenings in cabaret, and taking jazz and contemporary classes with guest teachers. His favourite teacher being Matt Mattox, with whom he took classes in London. Returning to Barcelona he formed his first dance group, whose début production was entitled Ver-estiu- altumne-ivern-1, a work for seven performers. 1976 was the year of his first performance at the Teatre Lliure. -

Applying Urban Regime Theory it highlights the role of urban politics in driving, variegating and containing neoliberalism since the 2008 crash. Variegated austerity regimes contribute to strengthening neoliberalism, but with limits. Welfarism survives austerity in felicitous circumstances. And, where contentious politics thrive, as in Spain, it holds out the potential for a broader challenge to neoliberalism. In contrast, austerity regimes in the UK cities are strongly embedded. The legacies of past struggles, and differing local and regional traditions form an important part of the explanation for patterns of neoliberalisation, hybridization and contestation. This paper offers a fresh perspective through a comparative analysis of austerity urbanism in Spain and the UK. Applying urban regime theory (Stone, 2015), the paper explores how austerity governance shapes the operational matrices of urban politics from the standpoint of neoliberalism and its counter-currents (Peck, 2012: 626). We report a study of six cities: Barcelona and Lleida (Catalonia), Madrid (Community of Madrid), Donostia (Basque Country), Cardiff (Wales) and Leicester (England). -

The goal was to create an innovation district able to generate economic activity and employment by focusing on knowledge economy and new technologies. The innovative features of the project emphasize the uncertainty and the need to adapt to new technologies and their economic and social influence in urban regeneration projects. The paper uses the adaptive governance framework to analyze how the dynamic process of urban regeneration and creation of an innovation district has been able to adapt to internal and external changes of political, economic and technological nature. Adaptive governance has been conceptualized by focusing on three key aspects (i.e., level of complexity, conflict and uncertainty) and three main actions (i.e., anticipate, learn and adapt) that have been considered in the case study. These elements emphasize the need for bridging organizations that are able to work cross-level and cross-scale. The article shows the suitability of adaptive governance systems in urban regeneration projects, aiming to combine top-down and bottom-up initiatives within a comprehensive strategy.
