The careers class is a new class being offered this year at Commerce. It’s being taught by Mrs. Rogers. The purpose of the class is to provide career awareness. Some of the things you would be doing in this class include focusing on the ACT, researching the types of careers that are available, signing up for online scholarship information, and setting personal goals. Mrs. Rogers’ goal for the class is that everyone will have a plan for their future by the end of the course.

They currently have a record of 17 wins and only 3 losses. They are also ranked # 7 in Class 2A in the State of Oklahoma. Their season began way before school started. They practiced every morning working very hard to have a successful season. Their goal is to be District Champs, Regional Champs, and make another appearance at the Class 2A State Tournament. This week the team plays in the Wyandotte tournament. Their next home game is Sept. 14th vs Welch. Come out and support the Lady Tigers in reaching their goals and having a great season. The Commerce Football team’s first scrimmage of the year was successful for the most part. The team’s varsity offense scored five touchdowns, three of which were scored by Senior Running back Bryson Sullivan. The varsity defense also contributed to the team’s success, holding Chelsea’s offense under 130 yards. Senior nose guard Gil Deissroth played a good defensive game, making the offense pay for their mistakes. The first scrimmage ended before we knew it, but we had a great time playing in it. Our Commerce Tigers went down to Inola with two senior starters injured. The Tigers scrimmaged the Mannford Pi- rates. They moved the ball pretty well and scored a couple of touchdowns. Our Commerce defense held the Mannford Pirates scoreless. Then, the tigers scrimmaged the Inola Longhorns. Commerce defense also held them scoreless. The tigers offense did really well also. Offen- sive players Parker Morgan and D.C. stepped it up when Bryson Sulli- van got injured. The tigers were outstanding that night!!

They have been working very hard all summer long. They attended cheer camp at OU for four days and practiced from 8 to 10 almost every morning. The cheerleaders held a Tiger Cheer Camp for girls from kindergarten to sixth grade over the summer as well. Everyone had a blast and it was very successful. One thing they are preparing hard for is regionals. Regionals are September 18th at Tahlequah. They’ve been practicing their two minute cheer all summer long and also have night practices. All of the cheerleaders have worked very hard. They would appreciate everyone coming out to support and cheer them on at regionals in hopes of them becoming Regional Champs. By:Jerrica Trease

The CHS Band 2010 half time show will be a dedication to Kristy Moudy. The fans can expect some new songs this year such as “Don’t Stop Believing”, “Three Little Birds (Everything’s Gonna Be All Right), and “Celebration” Mr. Dunn chose these as an inspira- tion to Ms. Moudy during her battle against cancer.
