Fairmount’s New Year’s Resolutions By Parker Neale

2017 has come to an end as we get ready for what 2018 brings us. Here are some of the students’ and teachers’ resolutions, or something you try to accomplish in the new year.

Marc-Andre, a 5th grader, is going to try to help his team win the State Championship. Lindell, also 5th grade, is going to try to pass the Principal’s Challenge, and Alex is going to try to master the wheelie on his bicycle. Harrison, 4th grade, is going to try to get along with his sister, and Rocki is going to try to watch more sports on TV.

Mr. Enman is going to try to find more time to read. Ms. Tlili is going to try to be more organized.

Now let's hope that everyone can stick to their resolutions throughout the whole year.

Fifth Grade Winter Concert a Success By Aidan Punch

In December, Fairmount had a 5th grade concert. We sang songs like “Let it Snow,” “Jingle Bell Jukebox,” “Mr. Grinch,” and some others. It was started by our music teacher, Mrs. Ellis.

The concert had a 1950s theme, so our first song was called “Jingle Bell Jukebox” because that was when jukeboxes were popular. Every class had about 10 kids chosen by the music teacher to have a speaking part in front of the entire audience. Also, there are some groups of kids that sang solos.

The concert happened on December 22nd. At 10:00 a.m., it was performed for the 4th graders, then later in the day it was performed for the kids’ parents.

Editorial: Predictions for Star Wars The Last Jedi By Madeline Thai

Star Wars is an exciting movie series, and the novels are just the same. The movies are very popular, and as the wait becomes shorter for the newest release, the suspense increases. Many of us were excitedly waiting for the ninth Star Wars story, “The Last Jedi,” to come into theaters in December. We were also wondering what would happen, who the last Jedi is, and several other questions. I asked multiple people what their thoughts were before any of them saw the movie.

Simon Mckay (5th grade) thinks that since the title is “The Last Jedi,” there will be no more Jedi after this movie. He also thinks that Kylo Ren survived the fall in “The Force Awakens” and will build another Death Star with more stormtroopers. Simon says that he thinks Rey is the last Jedi as well.

Lindell Smiley (5th grade) wants R2D2 to appear in “The Last Jedi,” and he thinks that Luke Skywalker is the last Jedi. Lindell also believes that Kylo Ren will kill Princess Leia.

Aiden Rickenbach (4th grade) thinks that Rey is the last Jedi, and will save the world.

Mrs. Leonard says that someone will “kill off a major character; they always do.” She thinks that the ‘major character’ this time will be Luke Skywalker. “Since the title is ‘The Last Jedi’, this will be the last movie,” Mrs. Leonard tells me. “[After this movie], there will probably be more prequels [similar to ‘Rogue One’].”

As for me, I think that since Carrie Fisher, the actress portraying Leia, has passed away, Leia will be killed. However, the company could find another person to take Fisher’s place, as they did with Anakin. Based on the trailers, I have come to the conclusion that Luke will leave Rey’s training incomplete and that he also knows who her parents are; that’s probably why he’s been keeping a low profile.

Remember, if you have seen the movie or know what takes place, please no spoilers for those who have not!
