" Are we going to start? "IASINSCHI told NICUIESCU that he did not think so. The discussion was a hasty one, and the chauffeur did not pay too close attention to it. Orga- nized. in marching units, they manifested on the main streets and places of the city singing legionnaire songs and shouting, Down with RIOSEANU; we want a legionnaire government, we want HORIA SIMA at the.head of the government. "The manifestation took place at the statue of "MIHAI VITEAZUL", where the participants and the manifestation came from the headquarters located on Roma Street. At the statue VIOREL TRIFA and DUMITRU GROZA spoke. After awhile the manifestation, led by TRIFA, GROZA, ILIE . NICULESCU and GHEORGHEiSidtBU, proceeded on -2- WFO 105-2153 Calea Victoriei, passing by the Royal Palace to the building of the Consul of Ministers where they were Palace, met the Army. As a result of the discussions and arrangements nade by VIOREL TRIFA and DUMITRU °ROZA with Dr. VICTOR,BIRIS, former Secretary General of the Ministry, the demonstrators left the building of the Consul of Ministers. After leaving the buil- ding, they remained alerted at their different headquarters, and later that evening they occupied different public buildings. "The manifestation of January 20, 1941, was staged as a protest against the assassination of the German ,Major DURING, and the dismissal of the Minister of the Interior, General C. PETROVICESCU. uTWe manifests were printed on that occasion and were distributed on the streets of the Capitol. "The contents of the first manifest are as follows: RUMANIANS: A German major was killed fiendishly by Englands order by an agent of its intelligence service on the streets of the Capitol. The protectors and the defenders of this assassin, of Greek origin, are as follows: EUGEN CRLSTESCU, the Chief of the Secret Service and former confidant of ARMAND CALIVESCU, and ALEX. RIOSEANU, the man of the Jews and of the Greeks. Instead of these elements ortatan being eliminated, the brave general and man of great character, General PETROVICESCU, was forced to leave the government, because this was ordered by the English Legation and the Masons. "We request that General ANTONESCU bring about justice for the Rumanians. -3- WIO 105-2153 We demand the replacement of all the Juda-like Masons from the government. We demand an Iron Guard Government. 916 want the puniahment of the assassination of the German major. The Rumanian christian students cannot permit German soldiers to be butchered on the streets of the Capitol by English agents. "Re is the one who organized the Military Formation of the Legionaries Students, which formation participated in the demonstration of January-20, 19141. "He is the one who launched the manifest of January 20, 1941, in which he asked the students to rebel against the head of the government. "This manifest was spread all over the country. Gestionarea patrimoniului arhivistic militar, proces bazat pe competenţa, responsabilitatea și, nu în ultimul rând, pasiunea specialiștilor în domeniu și-a dovedit importanţa și utilitatea pentru elaborarea de programe educaţionale necesare formării cadrelor militare și de proiecte culturale în care este refl ectat rolul însemnat al instituţiei militare în cadrul societăţii românești.

Dacă în deceniile trecute „duşmanii” cărţii au fost, pe rând, cinematograful şi televiziunea, care, însă, n-au reuşit să diminueze magia acesteia, astăzi asistăm la o competiţie – din păcate inegală – între descoperirea lui Gutenberg şi noua invenţie, Internetul. Generaţiile tinere accesează cu o pasiune cvasidevoratoare tableta şi computerul, petrecându-şi multe ore în tovărăşia acestora, refuzând cu obstinaţie cartea, adică lectura, spre disperarea unor părinţi care-şi aduc aminte cu melancolie de cărţile care i-au „făcut oameni”. Iar dacă Epicur, cu 23 de secole în urmă, spunea că „primul şi cel mai mare bine este înţelepciunea”, în mileniile sale de existen- ţă, cartea – şi cu atât mai mult cea tipărită – şi-a adus aportul la do- bândirea acesteia, oferind prilej de reflecţie, de meditaţie, dând răs- punsuri celor animaţi de îndoieli şi tensiuni cognitive, constituind principala forţă motrice a evoluţiei culturale a omenirii, cel puţin de la apariţia tiparului.

ALEXIANU, Civil Governor; With regard to the fact that there is a large jewish population on the territory of Transnistria which has been evacuated from various battle-zones, in order to protect the rear of the front; With regard to the need to organize communal living for this evacuated population; Seeing that this population must find a means of existence on its own account and through labour; By virtue of the full powers accorded by Decree no. 1 of 19 August 1941, issued at Tighina; We command: Article 1 All jews who have come from the battle-front in Transnistria, as well as jews from Transnistria, who for the same reasons were moved into various centres, or those who remain to be moved, are subject to the rules of life established by this present ordinance. Article 2 The Inspectorate of Gendarmes in Transnistria determines the localities where the jews can be housed. The Jews will be housed with regard to the size of their family in the dwellings abandoned by the Russian or jewish refugees. Each family of jews who receive a dwelling will be obliged to tidy it up forthwith and to keep it clean. If there are not enough of these dwellings, the Jews will also be housed in private homes, which will be allocated to them, for which they will pay the determined rent.

To illustrate this process, we explore the evolution of the anti-Semitic policy of the Antonescu regime in Romania (1940–1944) from an under- researched perspective: the activity of the Nazi ‘advisors on the Jewish Question’ dis- patched to Bucharest. Based on a wide range of published and unpublished archival sources, we attempt to provide answers to the following questions: To what extent did the Third Reich shape Romania’s anti-Semitic polices during the Second World War? What was the role played by the Nazi advisors in this process? In answering these ques- tions, special attention is devoted to the activity of the Hauptsturmführer ss Gustav Richter, who served as Berater für Juden und Arisierungsfragen [advisor to the Jewish and Aryanization questions] in the German Legation in Bucharest from 1st of April 1941 until 23 August 1944. Multe din aspectele oribilei crime au ieşit la iveală după decenii şi nu sunt pe deplin elucidate nici astăzi. În noaptea de 1 O decembrie 1933, noul guvern condus de Ion Gh. Duca •. printr-un Jurnal al Consiliului de Miniştri, a reînnoit dizolvarea Legiunii Arhanghelului Mihail - Garda de Fier, iar listele ei electorale au fo st anulate. Termenul a fo st în aşa manieră ales, încât Legiunea nu mai putea propune candidaţi sub alt nume de listă. Această măsură a fost urmată de arestarea a mii de legionari, sursele oficiale indicând cifra ' Ion Gheorghe Duca ( 1879 - 1933). A fo st fiul inginerului Gheorghe Duca (director general al C. F. R. şi directorul Şcoalei de Poduri şi Şosete) şi al Luciei Ghika. După terminarea Liceului "s_( Sava" din Bucureşti ( 1897), pleacă la Paris. unde îşi ia doctoratul în Drept ( 1902). A fo st jurist, om politic liberal, deputat. Ministru la Culte şi Instrucţiune Publică (ianuarie 1914 - ianuarie 1918 şi 29 noiembrie - 12 decembrie 1918), Agricultură şi Domenii (decembrie 1918 - septembrie 1919), Externe (ianuarie 1922 - martie 1926), Interne (iunie 1927 - noiembrie 1928), prim - ministru (14 noiembrie - 29 decembrie 1933). În noiembrie 1933, scoate Garda de Fier în afara legii, ceea ce i-a atras răzbunarea acesteia. A fo st asasinat pe peronul Gării Sinaia, la 29 decembrie 1933, de către o echipă legionară (Ion Mamina, Ioan Scurtu, Guverne şi guvernanţi (1916 - 1918), Silex.
