This report brings the known bat fauna of Guyana to 107 species and the fauna of Iwokrama Forest to 74 species. Measurements, reproductive data, and comments on taxonomy and distribution are provided. Wind Powering America FY07 Activities Summary Dear Wind Powering America Colleague, We are pleased to present the Wind Powering America FY07 Activities Summary, which reflects the accomplishments of our state Wind Working Groups, our programs at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and our partner organizations. The national WPA team remains a leading force for moving wind energy forward in the United States. At the beginning of 2007, there were more than 11,500 megawatts (MW) of wind power installed across the United States, with an additional 4,000 MW projected in both 2007 and 2008. The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) estimates that the U.S. installed capacity will exceed 16,000 MW by the end of 2007. When our partnership was launched in 2000, there were 2,500 MW of installed wind capacity in the United States. At that time, only four states had more than 100 MW of installed wind capacity. Seventeen states now have more than 100 MW installed. We anticipate five to six additional states will join the 100-MW club early in 2008, and by the end of the decade, more than 30 states will have passed the 100-MW milestone. WPA celebrates the 100-MW milestones because the first 100 megawatts are always the most difficult and lead to significant experience, recognition of the wind energy’s benefits, and expansion of the vision of a more economically and environmentally secure and sustainable future. WPA continues to work with its national, regional, and state partners to communicate the opportunities and benefits of wind energy to a diverse set of stakeholders. -

Eingsley scheint geneigt zu sein, die von ihm aufgeworfene Frage: Is the group Arthropoda a valid one? zu ver- neinen, indem er auf die verschiedene Zahl der Fühler, Mundtheile, die verschiedene Entwickehmg, Beschaffenheit derVerdauungs- und Respirations- und Circulationsorgane der Crustaceen und Insekten hinweist; die Tardigraden, Pycnogoniden , Linguatulinen und Limulus sind vielleicht als Gruppen aequivalent den Insekten und Crustaceen, vielleicht auch als Zweige des Arachniden- stammes anzusehen; jedenfalls gehören sie nicht zum Phylum der Crustaceen; Americ. Naturalist 1883 S. 1034 ff. Packard in seinem Aufsatze: On the Morphology of the Myriapoda führt bei der Benennung der Kopftheile und ihrer Anhänge einige neue Bezeichnungen ein. Auf Grund der Embryonalentwicklung sieht er die Chilognatha als die ursprüng- lichere Ordnung an, die von einem „Leptus-ähnlichen" Vorfahr, d. h. einem Tracheaten, wie es der aus dem Ei schlüpfende junge Chilognath ist, mit 3 Paar Kopfgliedmassen und 3 Bein- paaren, abstammen. Diesem Vorfahr kommen Eurypauropus und Pauropus am nächsten, die nicht als eine besondere Ordnung, sondern als eine zweite Unterordnung der Chilognathen neben den Ch. genuina anzusehen sind, und zwar vermittelt Eurypauropus den üebergang zu Polyxenus. — Scolopendrella ist kein Myria- pode, sondern ein Thysanure. — Palaeocampa, die Scudder zu einem Chilognathen gemacht hatte, ist wahrscheinlich eine haarige Neuropterenlarve. May you have as much grass to run on as I did. ii Abstract Biodiversity has been the goal of conservation for thirty years but recent work by biodiversity eliminativists has raised serious challenges to its suitability as the primary goal of conservation. This project groups those challenges into three major arguments: the conceptual case for biodiversity’s elimination, the empirical case for biodiversity’s elimination, and the value compass case for biodiversity’s elimination. Aside from discussing biodiversity as a property, this thesis will also discuss biodiversity as a concept (as in biodiversity), and refer to the word biodiversity (as in ‘biodiversity’). In the conceptual case for biodiversity’s elimination, eliminativists argue that biodiversity misdirects the efforts of conservation and is not a scientifically coherent concept. In the empirical case, eliminativists argue that biodiversity is not operationalisable. In the value compass case, eliminativists argue that biodiversity does not reliably track biological value. I will argue that all three cases for biodiversity’s elimination are unsuccessful. Biodiversity is a complex concept with multiple dimensions of biological diversities but understanding it as a homeostatic property cluster avoids the conceptual case for its elimination. The empirical case is unsuccessful because the surrogacy strategy for measuring biodiversity can be defended against its limitations and the expanding multiplicity of biodiversity measures is overblown. -
