Volume 3 Issue 3 Published by Lee Thevenet May - June, 2011 HORSELESS CARRIAGE REPLICA NEWSLETTER A Publication dedicated to the reporting of news, events, articles, photos, items for sale, etc, having to do with replica horseless carriages. Newsletter published six times a year and special issues when needed. From the Editor Hi everyone, Those of you who were not there, are the one’s that missed out on a great time, making new acquaintances and lots of great buys. Yes, I’m speaking about the Pre War Swap Meet that takes place each March in Chickasha, OK. Like every year before, there was a great time had by all that attended. Lots and lots of vendors showing their goods and beautiful cars to be had for the right price. For myself, this year’s trip to the candy store began a good twenty four hours before the meet was to begin, simply to be there when the vendor’s started to arrive. Remember the old saying “The early bird get’s the worm”. In this case, it was true. My quest this year was to find a very special part that would enable me to complete my REO build that has now gone past the completion time allowed to the project. The plans for the carriage had been completed and put up on the website quite a while back and the actual build, for the most part had been done for almost a year now, except for the final steps of painting and reassembly. Thus, the reason for not having any colored pictures on the REO Plans Page of the HCR.com Website.

  • Date: 6 December 2010 Bertolini and Bartels Clinch with the MC12 the FIA
Date: 6 December 2010 Bertolini and Bartels clinch with the MC12 the FIA GT1 World Title Modena, December 6 2010. Fifth Drivers’ title and sixth Team’s title in six seasons for the Maserati MC12 in the international FIA GT Championship - World Championship from this year. Leading actors in Maserati’s 2010 success are once again (the fourth time) the Bertolini- Bartels crew and the German Vitaphone Racing Team: sixth title in six years. Maserati’s success story in the FIA GT Championship started in late 2004 when the MC12 competed in four races, outside of the ranking. Success came early as Maserati picked up its first victory in the second race it entered with Bertolini-Salo. From the following season Maserati joined forces with the Vitaphone Racing Team, flanked in 2005 by JMB and in 2007 by PlayTeam. From 2005 to date, Maserati has struck with the MC12 both its targets, the Drivers’ and Teams’ titles, on every occasion with the single exception of the first time around, when Bertolini- Wendlinger, fielded by the JMB team and heading up the ranking until then, saw the championship victory slip through their fingers in the last race due to a transmission problem which was unprecedented on the car and has since failed to reoccur. Reliability and competitiveness are the two key factors in Maserati’s prolonged series of successes. If the MC12 has been able to stay on top for many years, despite significant changes in the technical regulations, this is due to the fact that the car comes without innate flaws, with a highly rigid carbon fibre monocoque chassis, excellent weight distribution between front and rear, equally excellent aerodynamic balance and a very low centre of gravity.

Official name: Bentley Motors Ltd. Formerly owned by: Rolls-Royce Motors Ltd. Owned by: Volkswagen Audi Group. Current situation: Originally an impeccably- British luxury marque, Bentley is now simply one of Volkswagen’s luxury brands. Bentleys are re-bodied Volkswagens with Bentley badges glued on. Rich and ignorant customers have ensured brisk sales for the new models. However, economic stormclouds threaten luxury car sales, and Bentley is no exception. Chances of survival: Okay. If things get tough for Volkswagen, it is likely that Bentley will quietly cease Bentley production and wait for better times • A brief history of Bentley ALTER OWEN WBENTLEY, known to all as ‘W.O.’, was a pioneer of British luxury performance mo- toring. Bentley’s first job was at the Great Northern Rail- way Locomotive Works in Doncaster, northern England. However, bikes & motorbikes were Bentley’s passion. Off duty, Bentley and his brother raced at the Isle of Man TT event and at the Brook- lands race track, near London. Bentley’s passion then shifted to cars. In 1912 Bentley’s family helped W.O. buy a small com- pany importing French DFP sports models. 2 All content © dogandlemon.com 2016 During a visit to the DFP factory in 1913, W.O. noticed a lightweight aluminium paper- weight – and had the inspired idea of using alu- minium instead of cast iron to make engine pis- tons. The first such Bentley pistons went into service in aeroplane engines during World War I. Be- cause Bentley’s pistons were lighter, the engines they were fitted to used less fuel and put out more power.
