BLOCK COMMUNICATIONS HIRES CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER

PITTSBURGH, April 4, 2011 – Block Communications, Inc., the parent company of the Post-Gazette and of Toledo, announced today that it has hired William “Liam” A. Durbin as its Chief Information Officer of Newspapers. In that role, Durbin will oversee the systems and technology of both the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and The Blade of Toledo. Durbin’s more than 20 years of leadership experience includes positions as Chief Information Officer with Heinz North America, GE Fanuc Automation and GE Consumer & Industrial as well as 12 years as a naval officer. Durbin holds an MBA from William and Mary and was named 2010 CIO of the Year by the Pittsburgh Technology Council. He is a resident of Sewickley, Pennsylvania and will be based at the Post-Gazette in Pittsburgh, but will also spend time in Toledo at The Blade.
