The series premiered to rave reviews online on Weibo and has enjoyed good ratings. At the story's opening, Commander Yu prepares his soldiers to attack the invading Japanese army. She inspires the workers to take new pride in their wine. Others, such as Wang Yichuan, pointed to the director's fascination with the "strongman," and found hints of "fascist aesthetics" in the film. Because the tale proceeds in a non-linear fashion, the reader is later exposed to Arhat's life several times. After Jiu'er safely reaches the distillery, her rescuer, whom she has been eyeing during the trip, disappears. Red Sorghum poster. In stock. Nothing But Thirty. The Three Major Roles of Chinese Television: Striking a Balance Between the Party-State, the Audience, and the Advertising
The Three Major Roles of Chinese Television: Striking a Balance between the Party-State, the Audience, and the Advertising Senior Thesis Presented to The Faculty of the School of Arts and Sciences Brandeis University Undergraduate Program in Sociology Laura Miller, Advisor In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Arts by Tianyi Zhang May 2013 Copyright by Tianyi Zhang Committee members: Laura Miller Candler Rosenberger Eileen McNamara 2 Abstract: A recent regulation issued by the State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television (SARFT) of China bans all Chinese television stations from broadcasting advertisements during episodes of television dramas. The official aim of the new ban is to ensure that the audience enjoys watching television without being disturbed by TV commercials. In the meantime, the cuts in advertisements greatly decrease the financial revenues of the television station. Nevertheless, the regulation is ineffective in changing the viewing habits of the audience even with a large financial sacrifice. My study shows that the regulation does not work because of the complex of the nature of Chinese television, its conflicting functions, and its unquestionable state ownership. It is crucial to understand the unique political and social background of China. By conducting this case study, I understand that the current Chinese television system does not work well, yet it exists for a reason. 3 Table of Contents: Chapter 1: Introduction 4-10 Chapter 2: The Historical Context of Chinese Television -
