Received 16 October, 2014; Accepted 1 December, 2014 An ethnobotanical study was conducted from March, 2011 to October, 2012 to enumerate the diversity of traditionally used threatened medicinal plants in biodiversity rich temperate Himalayan ranges of Bandipora district, Kashmir, India. Ethnomedicinal data was gathered using semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions and walk-in-the-woods with local knowledgeable elders, tribals (Gujjars and Bakkerwals) and Bhoeris (traditional practitioners). Results revealed that 23 threatened plant species belonging to 22 genera and 15 different families were traditionally used for curing various health disorders. Taxus wallichiana was a lone gymnosperm while all others were angiosperms. Majority of the species were perennial herbs but reports of biennial herbs and perennial trees were not uncommon. The highest number of medicinal plants were recorded in two families viz. Asteraceae (4 species, 17.39%) and Liliaceae (3 species, 13.04%). The shrinking population of these plants on account of very high demand for medicinal purposes is a matter of great concern as these plants are the backbone of our traditional medicinal system with a large population still depending on traditional medicine. Therefore, the need to conserve these plants is of utmost importance because if necessary conservation measures are not taken at the earliest, the day will not be far away when these God gifted resources will completely deplete from their natural habitats. (India) ABSTRACT Objective The main goal of the present study was to examine, provide knowledge of uses of Crataegus Songarica and provide recommendations for its future studies. Material and Methods Scientific literature on ethnomedicinal studies conducted in various parts of the world including J&K state of India available in the journals, edited books and other scientific databases viz., Google Scholar, PubMed, CAB international, DOAJ, Scopus, Science direct, SciFinder, and Web of Science were searched. Ethnomedicinal surveys on the Crataegus songariica from last decades up to January 2018 were included in this study. Results Crataegus Songarica belongs to the genus: crataegeae, family: Rosaceae, having 200 species. It is distributed in Iran, Afghanistan, northern Pakistan, northern India, Tadzhikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Sinkiang. It is vernacularly called as ban-Sangli, ring, goni, dakh, batsinga, pingyat, dolana. It is rich in phytoconstituents viz. alkaloids, terpenoids, flavonoids, carbohydrates, tannins and phenolic compounds, saponins and proteins etc. It possesses various traditional uses. Pharmacognostic study exhibits its hepatoprotective, antioxidant, DNAprotective, antimicrobial, antiproliferative, antitumor, cardioprotective, nephroprotective and many more properties. Conclusion Crataegus Songarica possesses attributes of the medicinal plant due to the presence of phytoconstituents. Keywords: Crataegus Songarica, phytochemistry, Pharmacognosy. I. The current study aimed to record the traditional foraging of wild food plants (WFPs) among three minority groups (Kalasha, Muslim Ismaili Yidgha, and Muslim Sunni Kamkata-vari speakers) as well as the dominant (Sunni Muslim) Kho/Chitrali people in the Kalasha and Lotkoh valleys, Chitral, NW Pakistan. A field survey recorded fifty-five locally gathered wild food plants and three mycological taxa. Most of the WFPs were used raw as snacks or as cooked vegetables, and Yidgha speakers reported the highest number of WFPs. Although the wild food plant uses of the four considered groups were quite similar, Yidgha speakers exclusively reported the use of Heracleum candicans, Matricaria chamomilla, Seriphidium brevifolium, and Sisymbrium irio. Similarly, Kalasha speakers reported the highest number of use reports, and along with Yidgha speakers they quoted a few WFPs that were frequently used only by them.

This study aims at compiling and analysing the alien and native vascular plant species of some selected habitats in the Srinagar city, Kashmir, India. Methods: Bi-seasonal sampling was employed and each habitat type (viz., graveyards, grasslands, orchards and wastelands) was sampled at seven different sites. Results: The number of species recorded from graveyards was 96; from grasslands 112; 141 from orchards and 110 from wastelands. The level of invasion among habitats varied from 67.27% to 68.75%, with a mean value of 67.86%; out of clubbed species list, 64.84% were alien. Asteraceae, Poaceae, Brassicaceae and Fabaceae were the biggest families in all four habitat types. Conclusions: Our research shows that across habitats, alien plant species are the predominant part of their floras.
