Pittsburg State University The National Anthem Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light, What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro’ the perilous fight O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming. And the rockets glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. Oh, say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Pittsburg State University Alma Mater On the plains of Southeast Kansas, ‘Neath an ever cloudless sky, Far away from surging ocean, And the storm-bird’s plaintive cry; With her prairies rolling Westward, Where the buffalo once were great, With her ensign proudly waving, Stands our own Pittsburg State.

Refrain Let us greet the and With a strong and cordial cheer, Let our hearts be ever loyal To our Alma Mater dear.

Welcome to the 2019 Spring Commencement ceremonies at Pittsburg State University. Today, we honor our students’ accomplishments as scholars; celebrate their achievements as Gorillas; and thank everyone – parents, family and friends – who helped them realize their goals.

Commencement marks both a completion and a beginning. I look forward to seeing the accomplishments of the Class of 2019 and of learning of the many ways in which they make our world a better place.

Just as Pittsburg State leaves an indelible mark upon its students, so too do they leave an enduring mark upon it. You see their legacy in the beautiful facilities on campus, our new academic programs and in the incredibly strong connection our university enjoys with its community.

Upon crossing the stage today, these students will become alumni – but their connection to this university will not fade. In many ways, it will become stronger as they return to campus with their families to introduce a new generation to Pittsburg State.

Class of 2019, I am honored to share this moment with you. I look forward to shaking your hand on stage today, and personally congratulating you on your accomplishments. I wish you great success in the future. Congratulations!

Always a Gorilla,

Steven A. Scott, President Pittsburg State University
