Edition 2 UNCLASSIFIED Page 2 Uncontrolled If Printed Defence FOI 244/19/20 Uncontrolled If Printed NAVLOGSPTPUB UNCLASSIFIED ANP 4426-1203 FORWARD 1 This publication prescribes Royal Australian Navy uniform and orders of dress and provides detailed instructions for the wearing of uniforms (and civilian clothing in certain circumstances) by members of the Permanent Navy and the Naval Reserve, and personnel granted approval to wear uniform in accordance with this publication. 2 These uniform instructions are to be used as a guide for the wearing of uniform by members of the Australian Navy Cadets in conjunction with Australian Book of Reference (ABR) 5128—Policy and Operating Instructions Manual for the Australian Navy Cadets. 3 This publication is to be interpreted as positive instructions, meaning if a situation is not specified in the publication, it is therefore prohibited; however, elements of this publication provide specific direction to the reader. 4 In this publication any reference to a male applies also to a female unless otherwise specified; reference to a ‘member’ or ‘personnel’ applies to both males and females. 5 In this publication any reference to the Permanent Navy applies to Officers appointed to, and Sailors enlisted as, SERCAT 6-7. Any reference to the Naval Reserve applies to Officers appointed to, and Sailors enlisted as, SERCAT 2-5. Naval Reserve personnel engaged under SERVOP C (Service Option Continuous Full Time Service) are considered Permanent Navy unless otherwise specified. 6 Should further clarification be required for any matter relating to Royal Australian Navy uniforms, formal advice is to be sought from the Navy Uniforms section of the Directorate of Navy Logistic Support within the Navy Logistics Branch. Garry E. Hall as commander of Combined Task Force (CTF) 158 during a ceremony at Naval Support Activity Bahrain Sept. 27. Command of CTF 158 typically rotates among coalition partners Australia, United Kingdom and the United States. CTF 158 is comprised of coalition ships and its primary mission in the Persian Gulf is Maritime Security Operations (MSO) in and around both the Al Basrah and Khawr Al Amaya Oil Terminals (ABOT and KAAOT, respectively), in support of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1723. This resolution charges the multinational force with the responsibility and authority to maintain security and stability in Iraqi territorial waters and also supports the Iraqi government's request for security support. Additionally, under the training and leadership of CTF 158, Iraqi marines aboard ABOT and KAAOT train with the coalition in order to eventually assume responsibility for security. “I am honored to have been in command of this task force,” said Hall. “The coalition forces have done an excellent job of providing security to the oil platforms and training the Iraqi forces.” “I am very proud of the coalition forces and my staff in supporting the CTF 158 mission,” said Capt.

    Albs, Advent, and White Supremacy; or, Why the worship leaders have not been wearing those long white robes Kathleen O’Keefe Reed October 16, 2019 At the beginning of Advent, 2016, I wrote the following to explain why I and other worship leaders were not wearing albs. That practice continues, with the exception of “high holy days,” like Christmas and Easter. Here’s what I said back then: Those robes, called albs derived from tunica alba meaning “white tunic,” were the standard business suit of professional Roman men in the early centuries of the Common Era. The alb did not become the go-to Christian priestly garb until the beginning of the 5th Century. “For example, in a transitional stage, Jerome, (341-420), distinguishes between everyday clothing and a special ‘suit of clean clothes for wear in church…”” writes J.G. Davies in A Dictionary of Liturgy and Worship, p. 367, Macmillan,1972. Davies goes on to say that “all ranks of clergy wore the plain alb until the eleventh century.” After that, albs were by turns, more or less plain. Davies, writing in the 1970’s, concludes that up to present day the alb “is to be thought of as the archetypal ‘white robe’ of Christianity.’” Just as Davies’ tome went to print in 1972, a liturgical renewal in the American Lutheran church was gearing up. The centrality of the baptismal font as lifelong source of identity rather than ticket to heaven got heightened. Weekly Eucharist became the norm. The new green Lutheran Book of Worship reflected these renewed priorities, so the church shopped its closet for new-old symbolism.
