Packauskas1 Abstract Forty eight species of Pentatomidae are listed as occurring in the state of Kansas, nine of these are new state records. A key to all species known from the state of Kansas is given, along with some notes on new state records. ____________________ The family Pentatomidae, comprised of mainly phytophagous and a few predaceous species, is one of the largest families of Heteroptera. Some of the phytophagous species have a wide host range and this ability may make them the most economically important family among the Heteroptera (Panizzi et al. 2000). As a group, they have been found feeding on cotton, nuts, fruits, veg- etables, legumes, and grain crops (McPherson 1982, McPherson and McPherson 2000, Panizzi et al 2000). -

An invasive species, the brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys (Sta˚ l), is spreading through the region. However, little is known about the complex of stink bug species associ- ated with corn and soybean in the midwestern United States. In this region, particularly in the more northern states, stink bugs have historically caused only infrequent impacts to these crops. To prepare growers and agri- cultural professionals to contend with this new threat, we provide a review of stink bugs associated with soybean and corn in the midwestern United States. -

However, collections in the Entomology Museum of Michigan State University (MSU), East Lansing, and in the Museum of Zoology of the University of Michigan (UMMZ), Ann Arbor, indicate that collecting has been extensive throughout the state (Fig. 1). The key and annotated list are based on material I identified in these two collections. -

McDonald Department of Entomology Quaestiones Entomologicae University of Alberta 2:7-150. 1966 The male genitalia of 85 and the female genitalia of 80 species of North American pentatomoid bugs are described. The male genitalia were found to vary very widely in the tribes Pachycorini and Odontoscelini of the Scutellerinae. The female genitalia were less variable. Species in the tribe Scutellerini are very easily defined on the basis of the male genitalia. The Pentatominae, Asopinae, and Podopinae are very uniform in the structure of the genitalia and are closely related to one another. The spermatheca of all species examined in the above sub families except Trichopepla semivittata (Say) (Pentatominae), has an elongate membraneous dilation with a central sclerotized rod. Median penal lobes occur only in the Pentatominae, Asopinae and Podopinae with the exception of one scutellerine, Symphylus carribeanus(Kirkaldy). The Cydnidae exhibit great diversity of form both in the male and female genitalia. The status of this family will remain obscure until further species have been examined. The Acantho- somidae posses pentatomine type genitalia. The genitalia of Piezostemum subulatum (Thunberg) do not resemble those of other species of the Tessaratomidae so far described. On the basis of this work it is suggested that the Scutellerinae be accorded family status; the Asopinae and Podopinae should be reduced to tribes within the Pentatominae; the Acanthosomidae reduced to subfamily status ivithin the Pentatomidae and Piezostemum should be raised to subfamily status within the Tessaratomidae. -

In some testicular lobes of the Pentatomidae there may be occurrence of atypical spermatogenesis or polymegaly, leading to the production of nonfertile sperm. The comparative analysis of spermatogenesis and nucleolar behavior in testicular lobes of Euschistus heros showed cells with polymegaly in lobes 4 and 6. Generally, when these lobes are present in the same individual, there is also the formation of atypical cells in the flanking lobe. Such characteristic was not seen in E. heros.However,differences regarding the concentration of heteropyknotic chromatin and silver-positive bodies in this lobe deserve attention. This study explored the literature and demonstrated the prevalence of some lobes in the formation of differentiated cells. It was also found in the literature that there is an association of the chromocenter with the nucleolus in several species of Pentatomidae, but in E. -
Massocephalus Stysi, a New Species of Pentatomidae (Hemiptera: Heteroptera) from the Philippines

The pentatomid genus Massocephalus Dallas, 1851 and its only pre- viously known species, M. maculatus Dallas, 1851 are redescribed. The tribal placement of Massocephalus is briefl y discussed. One new species, M. stysi sp. nov. is described. A key to the species is provided. Key words. Heteroptera, Pentatomidae, Cappaeini, Massocephalus, taxonomy, new species, Philippines Introduction A number of years ago, while visiting the U.S. National Museum of Natural History (Washington, D.C.) and the American Museum of Natural History (New York), I discovered several pentatomid specimens from the Philippines that I could not place to genus. After some study, I determined that they belonged to the monotypic genus Massocephalus Dallas, 1851 but there were two species present. One specimen matched the description of M. maculatus Dallas, 1851 completely, the other two specimens represent an undescribed species which I describe herein, and take the pleasure in naming after Prof. Pavel Štys in honor of his 75th birthday. The philippine pentatomid fauna has not been treated comprehensively in over 150 years, the last thorough work being that of STÅL (1871). Unfortunately, Massocephalus was apparently unknown to Stål, and was not included in his monograph. Essentially, since its original description (DALLAS 1851), the genus Massocephalus, and its only included species, M.
