NARRATIVE AND BUDGET Attach a separate document, 2 pages maximum, addressing the following: 1. Project Description. In language accessible to the non-specialist, describe what you intend to do, and how the effort will contribute to building or strengthening sustainable international research collaborations. Explain how it is new and important to scholars and/or society generally. Explain what you expect to be the outcome of the work, and its scholarly or other impact. Explain how you and your collaborators will undertake the work. Where special skills or techniques are required at any point, make clear who will supply them. 2. Relevance To WUN Goals. Explain briefly how the program aligns with WUN strategic objectives and how it addresses a WUN Global Challenge. 3. Sustainability. Outline how the program will build long-term, sustainable international relationships based on genuine commitment by the research partners. Describe the sustainability plans, including specific future funding levels and sources to support the research collaboration after the RDF seed monies expire. 4. Teamwork. Outline how the project team will be led and constituted, including the participation of early career researchers and PhD students. 5. Anticipated Outcomes. List the key performance indicators of this project (e.g.: joint external funding applications, joint publications, postgraduate training, policy input, novel technologies etc.). 6. Budget. List the total amount requested from the WUN Research Development Fund (in US$) and the anticipated matching contribution amounts to be requested from UMass Amherst and each of the contributing collaborator institutions. Also describe the purposes for which the WUN funds will be used.**

** RDF funds may cover the costs of exploratory research initiatives, targeted workshops, faculty exchanges and the formation of collaborative networks, among other activities. Applications that incorporate a research mobility component for early career researchers and postgraduate students are encouraged. The WUN Research Development Fund will not cover management fees, salaries or salary supplementation, purchase of capital assets, equipment depreciation, scholarships, course fees and bench fees. Where funds are to be used for air travel, only economy class fares are permissible. UMass Amherst will make available matching funds for proposals selected in the Limited Submission process, up to USD $10,000. PIs are responsible for securing any additional matching amounts from collaborators’ institutions or other sources of funding as needed to meet the WUN match threshold.
