Survey results found: • 82% of participants were satisfied with the tour- nament, organisation and structure. • Communication was an integral part of the tourna- ments success. More than 75% of parents and athletes were satisfied with the volume and quality of coverage and content shared through SYF and WPNSW Facebook pages, Instagram, Snapchat Geofilter and Twitter. 89% of participants were also satisfied with the SYF website and the pro- gram having it’s own portal/homepage. • A key objective for WPNSW was to provide com- plete coverage of the matches through Facebook live streaming. This was achieved as over 91% of parents and athletes were satisfied with this addi- tional service and over 97% satisfied with an up- load of all the matches onto YouTube after the tournament. • The ticketing process and atmosphere were critical components in enhancing the total experience of the SYF. Consumers were satisfied (77%) with the price of the tickets and felt that the DJ and music added to the atmosphere of the SYF; 59% of con- sumers felt this was a positive change, 33% felt neutral and only 8% felt this was a negative impact towards the event. • The opening ceremony of the SYF was received well with over 77% of parents/athletes satisfied. The idea of the opening ceremony was to intro- duce all our competitors both domestically and internationally as well as special representatives and our WPNSW executive staff. • The hiring matrix involved engaging with individu- als outside of water polo rather than the tradition- al process of filling positions from inside the com- munity. This was seen as a positive change and provided the operational team with a number of different perspectives to assist in running a more holistic event.

The 2017-18 Events Season saw a restructuring within the WPNSW office and the creation of the Events Coordinator role on the 30 August 2017. Under the new format, the Sports Development team oversaw the planning and delivery of WPNSW events with the Competitions team assisting the administra- tion. There was a total of 11 events organised by the Events Coordinator which ranged from the State Championship competitions to the LGBTI Inclusion in Sport event.

SPORTS DEVELOPMENT: The 2017/18 events season was the first time that the Spots Development team have predominately overseen the events season. Competitions assisted with draw structures and referee allocations however the majority of responsibility fell on the Events Coor- dinator who was assisted by the Sports Development team.

The addition of the Communications Coordinator in the office allowed for significant improvement on communication with external stakeholders through social media as well as more traditional forms of me- dia. Improvements included: • Developing an extensive social media plan for each event • Preparing/contacting local media outlets • Using marketing collateral created for the Sydney Youth Festival • Engaging with Local Councils which marketed the event

MEDIA LIAISON By introducing the Media Liaison role at all 2017/18 events, WPNSW was able to significantly increase its social media output as well as create more high- quality media material then then the sport has had before. • Coordinating local media news crews/reporters • Delivering the social media plan for the event, e.g. daily wrap up videos, Instagram posts, e.t.c. • Creating high quality media material that can be used by WPNSW for promotion • Assisting with running/operating the event upon completion of media responsibilities.

WPNSW recognises the issues that the LGBTI com- munity tackle when attempting to participate in sport and in everyday life. • 80% of Australians have experienced homophobia in a sporting environment. • 79% of Australians under the age of 22. • 87% of gay Australians under the age of 22 and 55% over 22 are most likely to stay in the closet when it comes to sport.

It is our hope that by creating events like this one we can continue to keep our water polo community as inclusive as possible and help to stamp out all forms of homophobia in sport.

The Club was excited to have 64 members sign up for the 2017/18 season, a little over 15% increase from last year’s participation numbers.

Dubbo Water Polo Club introduced an open competition this season. There were 4 teams playing a modified 6 per side social competition. The Club introduced exclusion fouls about half way through the season which is a reflection on how well the players are progressing and understanding the game.

The Junior program again took a combined approach of skill work and match play. On occasion, some junior players braved the open competition. This seemed to be well re- ceived by some open players who enjoyed the additional substitutes.

Dubbo was lucky to have The NSW State Under 14 Girls Championships come to Dubbo in December 2017. It was a fantastic tournament for our members to be able to watch and learn how the game is played at a high level. The re- sponse from all stakeholders was the event was a great success.

Implementation of a new platform for communication, reg- istration and retail transactions opened the path for a new era in the Club’s strategic plan.

A clear focus has been made on our junior’s development as well as adjustments towards coaching to ensure improved performance. The club engaged Martin Callaghan as Head of Coaching and Development in order to develop the club’s performance framework. This contributed in 5 junior teams playing in semi finals, and 4 in grand finals with 3 teams achieving gold medals. This structure has seen the club improve in overall rankings at State Championships with the L16s placing 1st, M18 – 2nd, M16 – 3rd and L18 – 5th.

The club will strive to further build it’s junior base and look to improved results at more senior levels as we continue to develop our juniors and our coaching.

The NSW Blues team was a young team for an open wom- en’s team, however, they displayed a high level of skill and were dominant throughout the entire tournament.

The girls were willing to be adaptable in all game plans and always played to the whistle. The team had a good vibe with all players comments being valued in the way the tournament was approached.

Sportsmanship was demonstrated in all games, it is to be noted that when we played the Waratahs the girls were exceptional role models and assisted some of the more junior players in the water with body positioning etc.

This was by far the most coachable NSW ladies team I have coached and I believe their gold medal was a testament to the way they approached the tournament with a positive attitude in and outside of the pool.

A big thank you to Gail Salter who ensured that our teams were always comfortable, well dressed and transported easily from one place to another.

NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2018

NOTE 1: STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANT ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Financial Reporting Framework and Statement of Compliance

The financial statements are special purpose financial statements prepared in order to satisfy the financial reporting requirements of the Associations Incorporation Act 2009 of NSW and in accordance with Class Order 11/01, Australian Accounting Standards AASB 1048 and 108 are applicable.

The committee has determined that the association is not a reporting entity.

Basis of Preparation

The financial statements have been prepared on an accruals basis and are based on historic costs. They do not take into account changing money values, or except where stated specifically, current valuations of noncurrent assets.

The following significant accounting policies, which are consistent with the previous period unless stated otherwise, have been adopted in the preparation of the financial statements.

(a) Income Tax Expense

No provision has been made for income tax as the Association is exempt in accordance with the terms of Section 5045 of the Income Tax Assessment Act, 1997.

(b) Employee Provisions

Provision is made for the association's liability for employee benefits arising from services rendered by employees to the end of the reporting period. Employee provisions have been measured at the amounts expected to be paid when the liability is settled, plus related oncosts.

(c) Cash and Cash Equivalents

Cash on cash equivalents includes cash on hand, deposits held at call with banks, other shortterm highly liquid investments with original maturities of three months or less.

(d) Accounts Receivable and Other Debtors

Accounts receivable and other debtors include amounts due from members as well as amounts receivable from donors. Receivables expected to be collected within 12 months of the end of the reporting period are classified as current assets. All other receivables are classified as noncurrent assets.

At the end of each reporting period, the carrying amounts of accounts receivable and other debtors are reviewed to determine whether there is any objective evidence that the amounts are not recoverable. A provision for impairment is established when there is objective evidence that the company will not be able to collect all the amounts due according to the original terms of the receivables.

NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2018

NOTE 1: STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANT ACCOUNTING POLICIES (CONTINUED)

(e) Revenue and Other Income

Revenue is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable after taking into account any trade discounts and volume rebates allowed. For this purpose, deferred consideration is not discounted to present values when recognising revenue.

Interest revenue is recognised using the effective interest rate method, which for floating rate financial assets is the rate inherent in the instrument.

Grant and donation income is recognised when the entity obtains control over the funds, which is generally at the time of receipt.

If conditions are attached to the grant that must be satisfied before the association is eligible to receive the contribution, recognition of the grant as revenue will be deferred until those conditions are satisfied.

All revenue is stated net of the amount of goods and services tax.

Income in Advance and Prepaid Expenses

Monies received prior to year end which are referable to events and competitions held in the next financial year are recorded as Income in Advance and are included in the Assets and Liabilities Statement.

Expenses paid in the current financial year but relating to periods beyond the current financial year are recognised as prepaid expenses are included in the Asset and Liabilities Statement.

(f) Goods and Services Tax (GST)

Revenues, expenses and assets are recognised net of the amount of GST, except where the amount of GST incurred is not recoverable from the Australian Tax Office (ATO). Receivables and payables are stated inclusive of the amount of GST receivable or payable. The net amount of GST recoverable from, or payable to, the ATO is included with other receivables or payables in the asset and liabilities statement.

(g) Accounts Payable and Other Payables

Accounts payable and other payables represent the liability outstanding at the end of the reporting period for goods and services received by the association during the reporting period which remain unpaid. The balance is recognised as a current liability with the amounts normally paid within 30 days of recognition of the liability.

INDEPENDENT AUDITOR’S REPORT TO THE MEMBERS OF WATER POLO NSW INCORPORATED

Report on the Financial Report

Opinion We have audited the financial report of Water Polo NSW Incorporated (the association), which comprises the asset and liabilities statement as at 31 March 2018, the income and expenditure statement and statement of changes in equity for the year then ended, notes comprising a summary of significant accounting policies and other explanatory information, and the certification by members of the committee on the annual statement giving a true and fair view of the financial position and performance of the association.

In our opinion, the accompanying financial report presents fairly, in all material respects, the financial position of the association as at 31 March 2018 and its financial performance for the year then ended in accordance with the accounting policies described in Note 1 to the financial statements and the requirements of the Associations Incorporation Act 2009 of NSW .

Basis for Opinion We conducted our audit in accordance with Australian Auditing Standards. Our responsibilities under those standards are further described in the Auditors’ Responsibilities for the Audit of the Financial Report section of our report. We are independent of the association in accordance with the ethical requirements of the Accounting Professional and Ethical Standards Board’s APES 110: Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants (the Code) that are relevant to our audit of the financial report in Australia. We have also fulfilled our other ethical responsibilities in accordance with the Code.

We believe that the audit evidence we have obtained is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our opinion.

Emphasis of Matter – Basis of Accounting We draw attention to Note 1 to the financial report, which describes the basis of accounting. The financial report has been prepared to assist the association to meet the requirements of the Associations Incorporation Act 2009 of NSW . As a result, the financial report may not be suitable for another purpose. Our opinion is not modified in respect of this matter.

Page 10

Auditor’s Responsibilities for the Audit of the Financial Report Our objectives are to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial report as a whole is free from material misstatement whether due to fraud or error, and to issue an auditor’s report that includes our opinion. Reasonable assurance is a high level of assurance, but is not a guarantee that an audit conducted in accordance with the Australian Auditing Standards will always detect a material misstatement when it exists. Misstatements can arise from fraud or error and are considered material if, individually or in the aggregate, they could reasonably be expected to influence the economic decision of users taken on the basis of this financial report.

As part of an audit in accordance with the Australian Auditing Standards, we exercise professional judgement and maintain professional scepticism through the audit. We also:

• Identify and assess the risks of material misstatement of the financial report, whether due to fraud or error, design and perform audit procedures responsive to those risks, and obtain audit evidence that is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our opinion. The risk of not detecting a material misstatement resulting from fraud is higher than for one resulting from error, as fraud may involve collusion, forgery, intentional omissions, misrepresentations, or the override of internal control. • Obtain an understanding of internal control relevant to the audit in order to design audit procedures that are appropriate in the circumstances, but not for the purpose of expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of the association’s internal control. • Evaluate the appropriateness of accounting policies used and the reasonableness of accounting estimates and related disclosures made by the committee. • Conclude on the appropriateness of the committee’s use of the going concern basis of accounting, and based on the audit evidence obtained, whether a material uncertainty exists related to events or conditions that may cast significant doubt on the association’s ability to continue as a going concern. If we conclude that a material uncertainty exists, we are required to draw attention in our auditor’s report to the related disclosures in the financial report or, if such disclosures are inadequate, to modify our opinion. Our conclusions are based on the audit evidence obtained up to the date of our auditor’s report. However, future events or conditions may cause the association to cease to continue as a going concern. • Evaluate the overall presentation, structure and content of the financial report, including the disclosures, and whether the financial report represents the underlying transactions and events in a manner that achieves fair presentation.

Page 11

We communicate with the committee regarding, among other matters, the planned scope and timing of the audit and significant audit findings, including any significant deficiencies in internal control that we identify during our audit.
