By Lt. Michael Bucher Kwajalein Police Department

lthough the last two weeks have been ex- Atremely busy with the demolition of the pacifi c bachelor quarters and the change of com- mand ceremony, the department has managed to squeeze three in-depth and vital training courses into the mix. Deputy Sheriff Frank Campbell of the Pinellas County [Florida] Sheriff’s Offi ce, a K9 unit trainer, returned to conduct the Level II, Advanced Canine Detector Training Course. Campbell is the USPCA Region 1 vice-president, and a Florida certifi ed instructor/evaluator; he brings to the training more than 25 years of ex- perience working with and training patrol, nar- cotic, and explosive police working dogs. Campbell assisted the Kwajalein Police De- partment by certifying and brining the K9 sec- tion online and up-to-date with current canine handling practices, methodologies, training/ utilization procedures. Campbell stated “I could see the fruits of the [KPD] canine handlers’ labor and witnessed fi rst hand a drastic improvement in the han- dlers’ abilities, techniques, and an increase in the canines’ detection capabilities.” Additionally, Detective Sergeant Stepha- nie Campbell instructed courses cover- ing online predators and interview/ interrogation techniques. She runs the crimes against children section for the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Offi ce and has served in the sheriff’s department for more than 20 years. She is an active member of the Florida Children’s Ab- duction Response Team. Stephanie’s classes were not only attended by KPD patrol offi cers and access control offi cers, but also one lieutenant and one detective from Ebeye’s local and national police departments.
