Uusikaupunki Part of the Joint Section for the Finnish Archipelago at Matka 2019 Press release 9.1.2019 Uusikaupunki part of the joint section for the Finnish archipelago at Matka 2019 Matka Nordic Travel Fair 2019, the largest travel fair in Northern Europe, takes place at Messukeskus in Helsinki on January 17–20. Uusikaupunki will be attending the fair as a part of the joint section for the Finnish archipelago, sharing a stand with Kustavi and Taivassalo. The vast section in hall 6 also includes Turku, Naantali, Kaarina, Pargas, Kimitoön island, Salo, Hanko, Raseborg, Rauma, Pori, and the Åland islands. Music, events, and the taste of the archipelago The Finnish archipelago has its own events within the section three times a day during all public days. On Sunday, the events focus on the Crusell Music Festival. A small taste of the upcoming festival is served by clarinettists Jussi Uuksulainen and Heikki Louko. The performances are held at 12.30 pm, 1.30 pm, and 2.30 pm. A taste of the archipelago is also served in the form of food; the Taste of Archipelago platter will be served twice daily from Friday to Sunday. In the Archipelago Boutique you can try some local products and buy delicious locally produced food products to take home with you. On Saturday and Sunday, we will be joined by talented felt artist Sanni Kallonen, who has become famous for her celebrity felt dolls. Some of Sanni’s dolls will be on display, and she will give a demonstration of her felting skills. Myllymuori will also be entertaining younger audiences at our section on Saturday. Myllymuori’s adventure trips in July will be dwelling into the Case of the disappearing shoes. Myllymuori, alias Kerttu Aaltonen, is joined by Timo Turunen with his tricks and juggling. Timo will also be appearing as the seagull mascot character. For the whole duration of the fair, you can take part in a contest in our stand. By connecting the right towns with the right destinations, you can win a seaside dining and accommodation package for two. There are three different packages, one each for Uusikaupunki, Kustavi, and Taivassalo. Experience the archipelago with all your senses A novelty in our section this year is the so-called sensory area, where you can experience the archipelago with all your senses. In addition to some tasty treats, you can also hear, see and feel the archipelago. In the sensory area, you can also sit down in the enormous “giant’s chair” made by a carpenter in Uusikaupunki. The chair, crafted by Esko Kangas, is on loan from shoe shop Alina. Last summer the chair was on display for example during the Demokatu project. Choose Uusikaupunki 2019 brochure Visit our joint stand to pick up brochures on the various travel services available in each town. The brand new Choose Uusikaupunki 2019 brochure will be available at the fair. The brochure gives an overview on the various events and sights of the town for the upcoming year. During the fair, Uusikaupunki will show itself to be a destination full of things to see and do throughout the year. Whether you are looking for enjoyable city culture, shopping opportunities, a wide range of activities, or beautiful nature and the peace of the archipelago, not to worry – you can find all of this in Uusikaupunki. And best of all, all attractions and services are located within a short distance from each other. The brochure contains information on a wide range of attractions, interesting events, different kinds of archipelago cruises, sports activities, shopping opportunities, accommodation options, restaurants and cafés, as well as a list of other important services. On Thursday, January 17, the fair is open only for professionals in tourism. The fair will be open for the public on Friday, January 18, from 9 am to 7 pm as well as on Saturday and Sunday, January 19–20, from 10 am to 6 pm.     Uimarantaluettelo 1 (3) 7.5.2021 UUDENKAPUNGIN YMPÄRISTÖTERVEYDENHUOLLON UIMARANTALUETTELO VUODELLE 2021 (Kustavi, Laitila, Masku, Mynämäki, Nousiainen, Pyhäranta, Tai- vassalo, Uusikaupunki ja Vehmaa) Kunnan terveydensuojeluviranomaisen on Sosiaali- ja terveysministeriön asetusten 177/2008 4 §:n (yleinen uimaranta) ja asetuksen 354/2008 4§:n (pieni yleinen uimaran- ta) mukaan laadittava uimarantaluettelo asetusten soveltamisalaan kuuluvista uimaran- noista. Yleisellä uimarannalla eli EU-uimarannalla tarkoitetaan uimarantaa, jossa kunnan ter- veydensuojeluviranomaisen määrittelyn mukaan odotetaan huomattavan määrän ih- misiä uivan uimakauden (15.6.-31.8.) aikana.     Turku-Uusikaupunki joukkoliikenteen työmatkapilotti Kysymyksiä ja vastauksia Mikä Turku-Uusikaupunki joukkoliikenteen työmatkapilotti on? Varsinais-Suomen ELY-keskus, Valmet Automotive ja Turun kaupunki järjestävät yhteistyössä uusia joukkoliikennevuoroja Turusta Uuteenkaupunkiin. Liikenne on kaikille avointa, mutta vuorot on ajoitettu autotehtaan työaikoihin sopiviksi ja reitti kulkee Uudenkaupungin linja-autoasemalle tehtaan portin kautta. Tarkoituksena on tarjota vaihtoehto oman auton käytölle työmatkoilla. Nopean yhteyden takaamiseksi vuorot pysähtyvät vain muutamilla pysäkeillä. Työmatkapilotin tarkoituksena on selvittää kyseisen reitin matkustajapotentiaalia. Lisäksi kokeillaan mobiilisovelluksen ominaisuuksia ja käyttökelpoisuutta. Mikäli matkustajamäärät muodostuvat kokeilun aikana riittäviksi, tavoitteena on että liikenne järjestyy jatkossa markkinaehtoisesti ilman viranomais- tai yritystukea. Miksi kokeiluhanke toteutetaan? Pilottihankkeella pyritään osaltaan vastaamaan Varsinais-Suomen positiivisen rakennemuutoksen tarpeisiin. Valmet Automotive rekrytoi kevään 2017 aikana Uudenkaupungin autotehtaalle yli 1 000 uutta työntekijää. Arvion mukaan merkittävä osa uusista työntekijöistä tulee pendelöimään Turun seudulta. Sekä autotehtaan että alueen viranomaisten intressinä on tukea työvoiman liikkuvuutta ja löytää työntekijät avoimiin työpaikkoihin. Työntekijöille halutaan tarjota vaihtoehtoja työmatkan kulkemiseen. Global boundlessness, heterogeneity and change are basic qual- ities of culture. However, in regional development, culture is seen and used as a number of different local cultures with their own essential cultural heritage. The culture of local everyday life is opposite to, and in tension with, the con- struct of cultures used in regional development. Accordingly, culture should pri- marily be safeguarded as a heterogenic, dynamic and interactive process of eve- ryday life. This process is the most important resource of local culture. In addi- tion, culture should be safeguarded as value-based cultural constructions, such as brands or common identities of certain cultures, with for instance cultural heritage as a part of it. In the latter case, a common, transparent definition of these brands, identities and cultural heritages with their different values, is needed.     The Finnish Archipelago Coast from AD 500 to 1550 – a Zone of Interaction Tapani Tuovinen [email protected], [email protected] Abstract New archaeological, historical, paleoecological and onomastic evidence indicates Iron Age settle- ment on the archipelago coast of Uusimaa, a region which traditionally has been perceived as deso- lated during the Iron Age. This view, which has pertained to large parts of the archipelago coast, can be traced back to the early period of field archaeology, when an initial conception of the archipelago as an unsettled and insignificant territory took form. Over time, the idea has been rendered possible by the unbalance between the archaeological evidence and the written sources, the predominant trend of archaeology towards the mainland (the terrestrical paradigm), and the history culture of wilderness. Wilderness was an important platform for the nationalistic constructions of early Finnishness. The thesis about the Iron Age archipelago as an untouched no-man’s land was a history politically convenient tacit agreement between the Finnish- and the Swedish-minded scholars. It can be seen as a part of the post-war demand for a common view of history. A geographical model of the present-day archaeological, historical and palaeoecological evi- dence of the archipelago coast is suggested. Adaptation and adjustment to conventional ways of doing things is also needed in order to reach sustainability on a global level. Cities and city networks have an ever-growing role to play as global influencers and local advocates in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Succeeding in accelerating sustainable development requires strong commitment and dedication from the city’s decision-makers and the whole city organization. Turku has a long tradition in promoting sustainable development and we want to make sure Turku is a good place to live in the future as well. Turku also wants to take responsibility and set an example in solving global sustainability challenges. That is why I consider it very important that Turku is among the first cities to participate in reporting city-level progress of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. With this first VLR report, I am very proud to present the systematic work being done in Turku for sustainable development.     Puolustusvoimat 1 (2) Lounais-Suomen aluetoimisto KUTSUNTAKUULUTUS Kutsunnanalainen on miespuolinen Suomen kansalainen, joka: - kutsuntavuonna täyttää 18 vuotta; - on jäänyt edellisiin kutsuntoihin saapumatta, jollei hänen palveluskelpoisuudestaan ole vielä erikseen tehty päätöstä eikä hän ole täyttänyt tai sinä vuonna täytä 30 vuotta; tai - on määrätty tämän vuoden kutsuntaan uudelleen tarkastettavaksi. Kutsunnanalainen ei ole asevelvollinen, joka on saanut Suomen kansalaisuuden tai päätöksen kansalaisuudesta sinä vuonna, jona hän täyttää 18 vuotta tai sen vuoden jälkeen. Hänet voidaan kuitenkin määrätä muuhun aluetoimiston järjestämään tarkastukseen. Läsnäolovelvollisuus kutsunnassa Kutsunnanalaisen tulee osallistua kutsuntatilaisuuteen henkilökohtaisesti, jollei häntä ole vapautettu läsnaolovelvollisuudesta. Aluetoimisto voi vapauttaa henkilökohtaisesta läsnäolovelvollisuudesta kutsunnassa asevelvollisen: - jolla on vaikea vamma tai sairaus; - joka on osallistunut erikoisjoukkojen valintakokeeseen ja joka on määrätty palvelukseen; tai - joka asuu ulkomailla ja on toimittanut lääkärinlausunnon tai muun luotettavan selvityksen, jonka perusteella hänen palveluskelpoisuutensa voidaan määrittää Kutsunnanalainen, joka ei ole osallistunut kutsuntatilaisuuteen laillisen esteen vuoksi, on velvollinen välittömästi laillisen esteen lakattua näyttämään aluetoimistolle toteen esteensä. Jos kutsunnanalainen opiskelee kaukana kutsuntapaikkakunnalta tai hänellä on muu perusteltu syy, hän voi aluetoimiston suostumuksella osallistua muuhun saman vuoden
