Cada foto feita tem um traço de sua vida com todos os livros lidos, pessoas amadas, conversas tidas e, enfim, a bagagem cultural de sua época.” (MARQUES, 2016, p. 55) RESUMO A presente pesquisa busca analisar o fotojornalismo contemporâneo a partir da Foto do Ano do World Press Photo (World Press Photo of the Year), principal categoria de uma das mais importantes premiações da fotografia jornalística. A violência e o sofrimento humano sempre foram uma das principais temáticas dessas fotografias, caracterizando o modelo das Fotos- choque. Porém, a partir da década de 1990, observou-se que, apesar do tema ser o mesmo, ele é abordado de forma mais branda e menos explícita, aproximando-se do conceito de Fotografia-expressão defendido pelo teórico da fotografia, o francês André Rouillé. Ao contrário das características do índice peirciano (típico do formato analógico da fotografia) que as Fotos-choque parecem representar, a fotografia-expressão se aproxima do conceito de símbolo da semiótica de Charles S. Peirce: elas evidenciam e congregam do contexto super simbólico da sociedade digital contemporânea. Partindo de tal constatação, poderíamos inferir que o fotojornalismo premiado na Foto do Ano do World Press Photo é produto do seu tempo e, por este motivo, fruto de uma reconfiguração estética do fotojornalismo. O percurso metodológico desse trabalho é constituído por análise fotográfica a partir do conceito de fotografia-expressão, e a posterior discussão acerca de sua coerência com as características do símbolo segundo a semiótica peirciana. ABSTRACT The present research seeks to analyze contemporary photojournalism from the World Press Photo of the Year, the main category of one of the most important awards in journalistic photography. Violence and human suffering have always been one of the main themes of these photographs, characterizing the Shock-photos model. However, since the 1990s, it has been observed that, although the theme is the same, it is approached in a milder and less explicit way, approaching the concept of Photography-expression advocated by photography theorist, French André Rouillé. Unlike the characteristics of the Peircian index (typical of the analogical format of photography) that the Shock-photos seem to represent, photography- expression approaches the symbol concept of the semiotics of Charles S. Peirce: they evidence and congregate from the super symbolic context of society. Based on this observation, we could infer that the photojournalism awarded at the World Press Photo of the Year is a product of his time and, for this reason, the fruit of an aesthetic reconfiguration of photojournalism. The methodological path of this work is constituted by photographic analysis from the concept of photography-expression, and the subsequent discussion about its coherence with the characteristics of the symbol according to Peircian semiotics. Der Vietnamkrieg anhand von Larry Burrows’ Fotogra- fien in Life Die Berichterstattung über den Vietnamkrieg wuchs merklich mit zunehmender Entsendung US-amerikanischer Berater nach Vietnam 1962, erlebte einen Höhe- punkt 1965 und 1966 und hielt das Niveau bis zur Einstellung des Magazins 1972.
