  • Evaluation of Susceptibility to Powdery Mildew (Erysiphe Necator) in Vitis Vinifera Varieties
Vitis 50 (3), 123–126 (2011) Evaluation of susceptibility to powdery mildew (Erysiphe necator) in Vitis vinifera varieties L. GAFORIO, S. GARCÍA-MUÑOZ, F. CABELLO and G. MUÑOZ-ORGANERO Instituto Madrileño de Investigación y Desarrollo Rural Agrario y Alimentario (IMIDRA), Alcalá de Henares (Madrid), Spain Summary Material and Methods Susceptibility to grape powdery mildew (Erysiphe M a t e r i a l : This study was conducted for four necator Schwein.) was studied in 159 Vitis vinifera for- years (2006-2009). Vines were located in the Vitis Germ- eign and native grape varieties grown in Spain. The plasm Bank “Finca El Encín” (IMIDRA, Alcalá de Hen- relationship between morphological features of vines ares, Spain). Some clones of each variety were studied to and their susceptibility to the disease was also studied. determine the degree of susceptibility to powdery mildew, The infection was evaluated under natural conditions resulting in 473 samples from 159 cultivars (2-7 clones per on leaves and bunches. A total of 35 cultivars were very cultivar, 4 plants per clone; Table). All plants were grafted susceptible to the disease (very low to low resistance on onto 41B and were almost 30 years old. The plantation bunches), while another 83 showed low susceptibility compass was 2.5 m × 2.5 m. Repetitions of the cultivars (high to very high resistance on bunches). Results pro- were randomly arranged in the same plot. Therefore, all the vide useful information for grape growers and breeders cultivars were subjected to the same edaphoclimatic con- for the selection of varieties less susceptible to powdery ditions and traditional management practices.

  • Final Vintage Report Fo Spain 2015
Vintage report for Spain 2015 A hot summer influences the harvest for the Spanish wine regions Across Spain the weather pattern was remarkably similar with temperatures rising at the end of June, a very hot July and then relief for the vineyards as cooler weather came in August. Harvest dates were generally a little earlier than usual and most regions were able to bring in the fruit in good weather. Favourable weather generally kept vineyard diseases at bay in 2015 however intense heat brings different challenges and how the vines coped with it depended on many factors including altitude, vine age, exposure, soil type and grape variety. There is plenty of talk of high quality from this vintage – whites with intense flavours and aromas and reds with great complexity and good ageing potential. Industry forecast for Spain’s 2015 harvest: 40-42 million hl. ************************************************************************** This report of Spain’s 2015 harvest is divided into the following regional sections: 1. Galicia: Rías Baixas, Monterrei, Ribeiro, Ribeira Sacra and Valdeorras 2. The Duero Valley and the north-west: Ribera del Duero, Toro, Rueda, Bierzo, Cigales and Tierra de Leόn 3. The north: Rioja, Navarra and the Basque Country 4. Aragón: Campo de Borja, Calatayud, Cariñena and Somontano 5. North-central regions: La Mancha and Vinos de Madrid 6. Catalonia, Majorca and the south-east 7. Jerez Wines From Spain Page 1 Galicia DO Rías Baixas The growing season was far from typical in the coastal DO of Rías Baixas: the winter period saw less rain than in a typical year, spring followed suit and mild temperatures in the first two weeks of March resulted in an early budbreak starting in Condado do Tea and O Rosal.

It has been accepted for inclusion in Senior Theses by an authorized administrator of Scholar Commons. For more information, please contact [email protected]. 1 Thesis Summary The Spanish wine scene is incredibly diverse, and an immense number of different wines are made in the country. Likewise, Spain is incredibly rich in culture, with a wide array of languages, histories, cultures, and cuisines found throughout the nation. The sheer number and variety of Spanish wines and the incredible variety of cultures found in Spain may be daunting to the uninitiated. Thus, a guide to Spanish wine and culture, which not only details the two but links them, as well, may prove very helpful to the Spanish wine newcomer or perhaps even a sommelier. This thesis-guide was compiled through the research of the various Denominaciones de Origen of Spain, the history of Spain, the regions of Spain and their individual histories and cultures, and, of course, the many, many wines of Spain.

  • Valle Del Cinca Se Ubica En La Parte Oriental De La Provincia De Huesca, En La Frontera Con Cataluña

  • Aglianico from Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia
Aglianico From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Aglianico (pronounced [aʎˈʎaːniko], roughly "ahl-YAH-nee- koe") is a black grape grown in the Basilicata and Campania Aglianico regions of Italy. The vine originated in Greece and was Grape (Vitis) brought to the south of Italy by Greek settlers. The name may be a corruption of vitis hellenica, Latin for "Greek vine."[1] Another etymology posits a corruption of Apulianicum, the Latin name for the whole of southern Italy in the time of ancient Rome. During this period, it was the principal grape of the famous Falernian wine, the Roman equivalent of a first-growth wine today. From Greece it was brought to Italy by settlers to Cumae near modern-day Pozzuoli, and from there spread to various points in the regions of Campania and Basilicata. While still grown in Italy, the original Greek plantings seem to have disappeared.[2] In ancient Rome, the grape was the principal component of the world's earliest first-growth wine, Falernian.[1] Ruins from the Greek Along with a white grape known as Greco (today grown as Greco di Tufo), the grape settlement of Cumae.
