MARIANNE FAITHFULL in Concert In collaboration with Gérard Drouot Productions presents MARIANNE FAITHFULL in concert Saturday December 6th 2014 | 8:30 pm | Monte-Carlo Opera Garnier Celebrating a 50-year career with a worldwide tour. Marianne Faithfull, an icon of British pop will be performing on the Opera Garnier Monte-Carlo stage on December 6th. In 1964, at the age of 17, Marianne Faithfull’s life will change forever after meeting the Rolling Stones manager during a London party. A few months later, she records her first album. As Tears Go By, one of the very first songs written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, goes straight to the British top ten immediately upon release. After both highs and lows in her musical career – she also appears on the silver screen -, she returns in 1979 with a new album « Broken English ». The folk tunes of her early days are replaced with more edgy songs such as Why Do Ya Do It?, Working Class Hero or Broken English. Her voice, now gravely and dark, becomes her trademark. Marianne Faithfull also surprised audiences after recording the Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht opera « The Seven Deadly Sins» in 1988. She performs it for the first time live at the Salzburg Festival in Austria. The success of the piece is so great that it reaches the top of classical charts. Marianne’s latest album was released in 2011. « Horses and High Heels » marks her return to writing, with the participation of Lou Reed and Laurent Voulzy, to name a few. Marianne Faithfull’s 2014 world tour, celebrating her 50-year musical career will take her to Monaco for an exceptional concert, on Saturday December 6th! • Marianne Faithfull Biography
Marianne Faithfull’s long and distinguished career has seen her emerge as one of the most original female singersongwriters this country has produced; Utterly unsentimental yet somehow affectionate, Marianne possesses that rare ability to transform any lyric into something compelling and utterly personal; and not just on her own songs, for she has become a master of the art of finding herself in the words and music of others. Marianne Faithfull’s story, has of course, been well documented, not least in her entertaining and insightful autobiography FAITHFULL (1994). Born in Hampstead in December 1946 Faithfull’s career as the crown princess of swinging London was launched with As Tears Go By; the first song ever written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, five albums followed whilst Marianne also embarked on a parallel career as an actress, both on film in GIRL ON A MOTORCYCLE (1968) and on stage in Chekhov’s THREE SISTERS (1967) and HAMLET (1969) By the end of the Sixties personal problems halted Marianne’s career and her drug addiction took over. Faithfull emerged tentatively in the mid-Seventies with a country album called DREAMIN’ MY DREAMS (1976) but it was her furious re-surfacing on BROKEN ENGLISH in 1979 that definitively brought her back. Further new wave explorations followed with DANGEROUS ACQUAINTANCES (1981) and A CHILD’S ADVENTURE (1983). But despite her new creative vigour, Marianne was not entirely free of the chemicals that had ravaged her in the sixties. Displaying a sadness tempered by optimism, and a despair rescued by humour Marianne returned, finally clean with a collection of classic pop, blues and art songs on the critically lauded STRANGE WEATHER (1987).

  • Press Release April 6 2012
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE For more information, contact: RKR-CB (505) 250-3105 [email protected] NEW CD “SHOTGUN” BOB ANDREWS AND SPECIAL GUESTS April 6, 2012 (New Orleans, Louisiana)--Released just in time for the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, the CD “SHOTGUN” is brand new music featuring Bob Andrews playing with some of the best musicians in New Orleans. SHOTGUN was inspired by a book by RKR- CB (also called SHOTGUN to be released April 20, 2012) which is a curious mix of images of the Marigny and Bywater neighborhoods juxtaposed with edgy graphic art and an eclectic short story. Known throughout New Orleans and the world as a keyboard player, Bob Andrews instead plays guitar on all tracks of SHOTGUN for a new sound that reflects a merging of Bob’s British rock and R&B roots with New Orleans funk and blues. The songs are fresh, edgy, and innovative. The music and the intriguing lyrics capture the energy of New Orleans with sultry and vivid flavors of lust and love in a rollicking zest for life. SHOTGUN brings together diverse and talented musicians including Alex McMurray, Johnny Sansone, Cornell Williams, Jermal Watson, Calvin Johnson, and Red Priest. SHOTGUN was recorded at Piety Street Recording by Wes Fontenot and mixed by John Porter. Development of the SHOTGUN CD was partially supported through a grant from the Threadhead Cultural Foundation. SHOTGUN is the first in a series of collaborative projects by RKR-CB to promote New Orleans musicians in tandem with a companion book. The next RKR- CB book/CD project, “INVISIBLE LOVE” will be released later in 2012.

Both have weathered addiction, rough handling from the media and the music industry and the challenge of establishing their own artistry in the shadow of famous partners: Mick Jagger and Kurt Cobain, respectively. Yet their origins could hardly be more different. Faithfull, 74, has the regal air of a daughter of English privilege, while Love, 56, has a scrappy, mile-a-minute energy that reflects her chaotic, hardscrabble upbringing and punk-rock adolescence. Friends since the 1990s, they seem both fond and protective of one another when they meet in Faithfull’s west London apartment one April afternoon, surrounded by antique furniture, oil paintings, memorabilia and piles of books. Faithfull first attained celebrity as a member of the Rolling Stones’ inner circle at the height of their 1960s notoriety — in her hallway hangs a collage of newspaper cuttings from the infamous 1967 Redlands drugs bust of Jagger and Keith Richards, a gift from pop artist Richard Hamilton — but wasn’t taken seriously as a musician in her own right until her 1979 album “Broken English” set her on the path to cult status.
