    2 Nephi 12-24: Chapter Summeries 2 Nephi 12: The fall and restoration of Judah is promised, with emphasis upon the latter days: "And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains" (v.2). The need for repentance and humility is also stressed (vs. 9, 11, 17). The day of judgment will humble all men (v.19). Compare Isaiah 2 for important differences between Isaiah in the Old Testament and the Book of Mormon. To the Jews these fall feasts focus on the Lord as our creator judge and the One Who atones for our sins the time of Sukkoth or the feast of tabernacles is a time when they celebrate all that the LORD has done for them prophetically they believe as we do that this feast pictures OLAM HABA meaning the world to come and the 1000 year millennial kingdom age they also believe that IF LORD Jesus was born at or during Succoth then another prophetic meaning of the Word became flesh and tabernacled amongst us would be true. We read in John 1:14 and the Word became flesh, and tabernacled among us, and we ourselves beheld His Glory, the glory of the only begotten with the Father, full of grace and truth. I still have the belief that Jesus being the Lamb of God would have to fulfil the role of that sacrificial Lamb being born when and where the Passover sacrificial Lambs were born so that He would fulfil the Passover Lamb’s role to the letter as recorded in the bible.

    Jesus Christ: The Branch of the LORD Isaiah 4:2 Introduction: The prophet Isaiah lived and ministered in Judah from about 760 to 700 B.C. He ministered from the time of King Uzziah to the time of King Hezekiah. Isaiah 1:1 Isaiah prophesied of the birth, ministry, death, resurrection, and Second Coming of the Messiah so much, that many people have called him “the fifth evangelist” (along with Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John). The theme of redemption and the grace of God, as well as God’s plan of salvation for the Gentiles through the Messiah, run throughout the book of Isaiah. It is estimated that there are more than 400 citations of references from the book of Isaiah in the New Testament!1 Furthermore, sections of 47 of the 66 books of Isaiah are quoted or cited in the New Testament.2 The only book of the Old Testament that is quoted in the New Testament more than Isaiah is the book of Psalms.3 Most of these citations of Isaiah in the New Testament point to the Person and work of the Messiah. The Messiah is pictured in many ways in the book of Isaiah. He is portrayed as King; as God; as Suffering Servant of Jehovah; as Anointed Conqueror; as the Foundation Stone; and as the Teacher. And, as we shall see in this lesson, He is also called by the beautiful name “the Branch of Jehovah.” Isaiah 4:2 I. Starting in Isaiah 13, God launches a series of judgments against the Gentile nations of his day. Making Isaiah’s list are Babylon, Assyria, Philistia, Moab, Ethiopia, Egypt, Edom, Tyre, and Syria. Tonight we’ll study God’s burden against the nations. ! Isaiah 15 begins, “The burden against Moab…” Three nations bordered Israel to the east - Moab, Edom, and Ammon. Today this area makes up the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan - a pro-Western monarchy with its capitol city of Amman - or Ammon. ! Today, it’s fashionable to research your roots - track down the family tree. Websites like Ancestry.com utilize the power of the Internet to uncover your genealogy. For some folks this is a fun and meaningful pastime. For me, I’ve always been a little leery… I suspect I’m from a long line of horse thieves and swindlers. I’m not sure I want to know my ancestry. This is probably how most Moabites felt regarding their progenitors… ! The Moabites were a people with some definite skeletons in the closest! Their family tree had root rot. Recently, I read of a Michigan woman who gave her baby up for adoption. Sixteen years later she tracked him down on FB… only to get romantically involved. She had sex with her son… Obviously this gal is one sick pup.

Isaiah is prophesying about a time that is very soon. God will rescue Jerusalem and then shortly after than Jerusalem will fall. The righteous will survive to become the remnant that will rebuild the nation. The evil people who don’t care about God will be destroyed. As you read through this does God seem unreasonable to you in what He desires? Week 30, Day 2 --- Isaiah 35-36 Here we are in the middle of the book and God provides an oasis. He reminds us through Isaiah that history is moving somewhere and that direction is toward God. God is in charge and He will bring His people to a place of security, safety, and prosperity. Then in the very next chapter Isaiah turns from prophecy to history and tells the story of Assyria’s attack on Jerusalem. The Assyrians couldn’t just march into the city. It was going to require a long siege to defeat Jerusalem. So, the king of Assyria sends negotiators to the king of Israel to see if there is anyway to avoid the cost of the siege.

    © Living Hope Church 1 June 2008 Rebels and Repenters Isaiah 29-31 (read Isaiah 31:1-7) Introduction A. In this sermon I aim to give the sense of Isaiah 29-31. My title is Rebels and Repenters because those are the only two options for Isaiah and Israel--and for us. 1. Isaiah 7-39 are summed up effectively with this one brief statement from Isaiah 36:5: Isaiah 36:5 (ESV) In whom do you now trust? 2. Everyday we each trust someone(s) for something(s). To trust God (and not ourselves or our money or our things) is to bring God great pleasure and glory. He loves to be trusted. B. But, the people of God (referred to in Isaiah 29 as the house of Jacob) are choosing to place their faith and trust in themselves (their strength and ability). 1. The leaders have attempted to form an alliance with Egypt so that they will be able to stand against Assyria. The help of Egypt is worthless. 2. This action reveals their heart toward God. They believe God is worthless. C. Therefore, God refers to them as a rebellious people. They are rebels. Here in Isaiah 29-31 they are invited and commanded to repent. 1. Jerusalem will come under siege and they will be delivered from the Assyrians by the hand of God. Sadly, this deliverance will not endure. They will not ultimately be repenters. 2. I have two main points. Here in Isaiah 29-31 we learn what a rebel looks like (or be reminded).
