riority Project 7 (Motorway Axis Igoumenitsa/Patra-Athina-Sofi a-Budapest) will provide signifi cant improvements to Pthe road network of southeastern Europe. IniƟ ally, it involved the construcƟ on of two new motorways in Greece - “Via EgnaƟ a” (from Igoumenitsa to Kipi) and Pathe (Patras-Athens-Thessaloniki and Evzoni). In 2004, it was extended to connect to the neighbouring countries and Central Europe: one branch to Sofi a and Budapest and another towards the port of Constanta.
The project is focused on the studies necessary for the compleƟ on of the link between the secƟ on of Priority Project 7 running through Greece and the Greek-Bulgarian borders. It concerns studies for re-aligning/upgrading two road secƟ ons (Riziana- Strimoniko and Christos-K. Ambelia) on the verƟ cal axis Thessaloniki-Serres-Promachonas over a length of +/-17.6 km.
MAP Review
The Mid-Term Mid Term evalua Ɵ on confi rmed that the oveoverall project implementaƟ on faces delay because of internal administraƟ ve issues. The revised implementaƟ on plan confi rming the original compleƟ on date (December 2012) is feasible provided that the plans are implemented as foreseen. The project is focused on the prepara on of a strategic study related to the development and upgrading of Priority Project 7. In order to achieve homogeneity, a global overview and strategic approach of the en re axis will be performed, both in terms of future traffi c volume demand forecas ng and minimum opera onal standards and geometric characteris cs. This aims to secure the appropriate priori sa on of interven ons and an op mum alloca on of resources.
