116 STRONG IOTA ADVISORS’ UPDATE Another school year is off to a strong start. Under the leadership of Sonny Davis, the chapter continues to excel on many fronts. With the addition of 31 new brothers the chapter now has 116 brothers, an IOTA record. Peter Johnston and his committee along with mentorship provided by Scott Adams did an excel- lent job in attracting the best and brightest to join our brotherhood. Hoping to have approximately 10 more students join our ranks in winter and spring. The Brummer Cup Celebration was a wonderful event celebrating the chapter's accomplishment of being recognized at the BEST CHAPTER in all of ZBT for the second time in the last three years. Iota has now been the best or second best chapter in ZBT nine of the last 10 years or as we call it our Decade of Dominance. Laurence Bolotin, ZBT's Executive director joined us along with DU Officials Vice Chancellor Lillian Rodriguez, CFO Craig Woody, faculty advisor and brother Greg Grauberger and Greek Advisor Carson Lance. Walter Sutton, Iota 1967, shared words of inspiration with the crowd of well over 100. Godfather Dan Goodman joined us along with dozens of other alumni, parents of brothers and friends of the chapter. This fall’s programming has and will include speakers on mental health awareness, sexual assault preven- tion, alcohol use and abuse, as well as other topics. The chapter will be hosting an ADL program on Words to Action helping students deal with hate on campus. The chapter has once again begun raising money for the Children's Miracle Network. They are participating in the Gift of Life programming helping find donors and matches for people in need of organs and blood arrow and doing other community service projects. The chapter Family Weekend Reception was a huge success as we welcome the families of new as well as older brothers to the Iota family. The chapter house was repainted, a new furnace installed, and other improvements made. We continue to discuss with DU the possibilities for renovation or a new chapter house in the not too distant future. The annual alumnus v. undergraduate touch football game was well attended. The chapter looks forward to hosting their brothers from ZBT University of Colorado chapter in November. All in all things are going well at Iota. My thanks go out to my fellow advisors for their effort in assisting the chapter. A special thanks to Don Reisfeld for publishing our newsletter our award winning, An Iota’s Worth. Kudos to Greg Grauberger, our faculty advisor, who helps so many brothers every year. It is great to be a ZBT at DU! THE ALUMNI AND PARENT NEWSLETTER OF THE IOTA CHAPTER OF ZETA BETA TAU OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DENVER Carson Lance, New IFC Director at DU, Visits Iota Chapter Carson Lance joins the University of Denver after spending seven years of fraternity/sorority advising in the Midwest and East Coast. He has been advising fraternities and sororities since his graduate school days at Bowling Green State University, and has served as a profes- sional staff member at Northeastern University and College of Charleston. Carson brings with him knowledge and skills in develop- ing leadership curriculum, creating risk reduction practices and strate- gies, planning large-scale events, developing organizational conduct polices, and advancing social justice within fraternity/sorority commu- nities. He joined Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) at Ball State University and serves as a facilitator for FIJI's health and safety programs, as well as a committee member tackling hazing and reimagining the member experience. Carson is excited to lead the DU fraternity/sorority community with the support of students, advisors, housing corporations, FSL graduate staff, house directors, and stakeholders.

In this role, Carson is prioritizing the following: 1) build a founda- tion, 2) do no harm, 3) simplify the chaos, 4) measure the impact, and 5) vision the future. Each of these priorities will be carried out via programming, col- laboration, policy work, process development, resource manage- ment, and accountability. The fraternity/sorority community is also positioned differently at DU than in years prior. The commu- nity is officially housed in the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life (overseen by Carson), which is its own standalone office. This means fraternity/sorority is no Sam and Geoff Lasin (underclassmen) along with Alumn Jim Ehrlich ‘77 longer part of the Office of and new DU Pioneer hockey coach David Carle. Student Engagement. Lastly, Carson supervises two graduate students: second- year Noah Reetz (Panhellenic advisor) and first-year Dakota Burton (IFC advisor). He provides support to both of the Panhellenic and IFC communi- ties but serves as the primary advisor for the Multicultural Greek and National Pan-Hellenic Councils. THE ALUMNI AND PARENT NEWSLETTER OF THE IOTA CHAPTER OF ZETA BETA TAU OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DENVER Letter from ZBT’s International President

As your International President, I have had the pleasure of traveling North American in support of our his- toric fraternity. To date, I have traveled almost 80,000 miles and visited with the leadership and brothers of almost 40 chapters and colonies; including Iota. If asked to summarize my vision for Zeta Beta Tau, it would be a fraternity without borders and divisions. Too often I hear undergraduates refer to fraternity staff and leadership as “Nationals”. This is unfortunate because we are all brothers and we are all committed to having the best fraternity possible. Similarly, we are all guilty of thinking of our chapter as being “the fraternity”. Our fraternity is our 140,000 brothers. Our fraternity is our 87 current chapters and colonies. Our frater- nity is all of our former chapters and colonies. Our fraternity is Phi Alpha, Kappa Nu, Phi Sigma Delta, Phi Epsilon Pi and Zeta Beta Tau. My vision for the fraternity comes from your own Iota Chapter and our Beta Alpha Theta Chapter at the University of Colorado. Your annual football game that had gone dormant was the type of brotherly bond- ing I so wanted to see. When I took office in 2016, I called on the brotherhood to come together in events such as these. Brothers have played football and tailgated together. Chapter with houses have invited unhoused chapters to conduct their initiations. Our biggest opportunity to come together across the generations is our annual convention. In 2019, our convention will honor the 100th anniversary of the Iota Chapter and will be celebrated in the Mile High City. I hope that you will come home to Denver and join us as we honor the best in our fraternity. Here’s to our fraternity; may it live forever. Norman Waas, ZBT International President

THE ALUMNI AND PARENT NEWSLETTER OF THE IOTA CHAPTER OF ZETA BETA TAU OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DENVER Annual IOTA football game: Alumni vs. Undergraduates ALUMNI WIN AGAIN on the Gridiron

Lead by QB Nic Miscioscia the alumni squad once again dominated the undergraduates who provided a spirited effort. Our files indicate the series record to be 28-3 in favor of the alumni. Merrick Hiton, Ben Brentin, Gage Crispe, Mike Kaplan, Bruce Balonick, Steve Ehrlich, Jake Lotwin, JJ Greg, Robert Roetzel, and Jordan Haney rounded out the alumni squad. We also had a great crowd with IOTA’s and Little Sisters Jim Errant, Peter Glick, Marcia Balonick, Linden Green, Jodye Glick, other friends and families plus a gaggle of their kids and grandkids cheering the alumni onto victory. The group then enjoyed lunch together afterwards.
