For some of motorcycle club us, this is the highlight of the ride. Switchbacks carved out of the mountainside, marked at 25 MPH and vista views of the canyon below around every other curve. I brought the Ducati with this 12-mile stretch of tarmac in mind. Everyone seemed to enjoy it, regardless of their pace. I was able to get some pictures of the guys as they arrived at Becker’s Butte on the north side of the canyon. The weather was perfect and the view was magnificent, as always. We savored it for a while then mounted up to turn around and do it again. Brandon and I agreed to switch bikes for the return trip through the canyon, to Globe. He mentioned he was going to take it easy on the Ducati, but that bike seems to have a mind of its own on a road like this. I made no such comment, as I headed down the canyon’s north slope on the Ninja 1000. The smooth flat torque from the in-line four reminded me of my old FZ-1. What a blast! I soon had the bike heeled over side to side through the S curves and stretching its considerable legs on the bends rising from the canyon. As headlights began to appear in my mirrors, I wasn’t surprised to see the Ducati’s among them.
