Candidates who have applied for UPSC Indian economic service/ Indian Statistical Service examination need to know the pattern of the examination. UPSC(Union Commission) Conducting the examination of Indian Economic Service Statistical Service Knowing the pattern of the examination is very important to prepare for the examination strategically. The candidate has to undergo 2 stages of selection where 1 stage is written examination and the 2nd stage is Viva-voce or interview. The written examination will be conducted for 1000 marks for both IES and ISS candidates. India Statistical Service candidates have to write objective and descriptive papers. Descriptive papers consist of short answer type and long answer type questions. The viva- voce or interview test is conducted for 200 marks. The candidates who are qualified in both the rounds are recruited. The candidate who has qualified in the written examination will be called for the viva voce or interview process. The interview is conducted for 200 marks. The candidate will be interviewed by the board officials of the examination. The aim of the interview is to check the sustainability of the candidate in his/her post. The interview is intended to supplement the written examination to test the general knowledge and abilities of the candidate,

The process of interview is not the strict cross-verification, it is all about checking the standards of the candidate. The board will test the intellectual curiosity, grasping power, the balance of judgement, alertness of mind, the integrity of character, the ability for social coherence and capacity of leadership in the candidate.
