HEATING SWAFFHAM PRIOR PLANNING APPLICATION CONSULTATION This leaflet contains important information on the planning application to be made for the Heating Swaffham Prior Project by Cambridgeshire County Council and Swaffham Prior Community Land Trust. The planning application, if granted, will enable delivery of the renewable energy centre and heat network proposed. Please review this overview and provide feedback on the project by 22nd June. An energy centre (located on Heath Road) will use boreholes, air source heat pumps, and solar power to supply thermal energy to an underground heat network, connecting to individual households. The project has now entered final design stages following an extensive two-year public consultation, completion of detailed surveys, and a positive planning pre-application meeting with the planning department at Cambridgeshire County Council. East Cambridgeshire District Council will have oversight of local planning considerations such as tree protection and conservation of properties. The feedback you share through this consultation will inform the final design and construction approach. The application will also undergo a statutory consultation period. In the future, it is proposed that the site could support educational visits, such as neighbouring community groups and school children. The existing hard landscaping will be extended to the North East, to accomodate bus parking and turning, a small number of car parking spaces will also be made available on site. Security measures and visual screening will be installed at both the energy centre, and the solar array site (see blue triangle below). The boreholes will be concealed underground, these will be contained to the red shared area below.
