  • The Shaping of Modern Gujarat
A probing took beyond Hindutva to get to the heart of Gujarat THE SHAPING OF MODERN Many aspects of mortem Gujarati society and polity appear pulling. A society which for centuries absorbed diverse people today appears insular and patochiai, and while it is one of the most prosperous slates in India, a fifth of its population lives below the poverty line. J Drawing on academic and scholarly sources, autobiographies, G U ARAT letters, literature and folksongs, Achyut Yagnik and Such Lira Strath attempt to Understand and explain these paradoxes, t hey trace the 2 a 6 :E e o n d i n a U t V a n y history of Gujarat from the time of the Indus Valley civilization, when Gujarati society came to be a synthesis of diverse peoples and cultures, to the state's encounters with the Turks, Marathas and the Portuguese t which sowed the seeds ol communal disharmony. Taking a closer look at the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the authors explore the political tensions, social dynamics and economic forces thal contributed to making the state what it is today, the impact of the British policies; the process of industrialization and urbanization^ and the rise of the middle class; the emergence of the idea of '5wadeshi“; the coming £ G and hr and his attempts to transform society and politics by bringing together diverse Gujarati cultural sources; and the series of communal riots that rocked Gujarat even as the state was consumed by nationalist fervour. With Independence and statehood, the government encouraged a new model of development, which marginalized Dai its, Adivasis and minorities even further.

  • DEMOGRPAHY the State of Gujarat Comprises 27 Districts and 225 Talukas
DEMOGRPAHY The state of Gujarat comprises 27 districts and 225 talukas (sub-district) comprising 18,618 villages and 242 towns. Kutch is the largest district of the state holding 23 percent of its total geographical area. The Dangs is the smallest district holding less than one percent of its total geographical area. The proper management of land, water, forests, minerals, pastures, and wildlife is crucial for sustainable development. For the purpose of this study the state is broadly classified into South, Central, North, Saurashtra and Kutch regions. Large parts of the state comprise the plains concentrated more or less in central and northern Gujarat. South Gujarat: The southern region includes the districts of Surat, Bharuch, Valsad, Dangs, Tapi, Narmada and Navsari. Its total geographic area is 23.22 lakh hectares. The region has the highest forested area in the state. Annual rainfall averages between 1,000 and 1,500 mm and the climate varies from semi-arid to dry sub humid. Deep black and coastal alluvial soil is predominant in this region. Central Gujarat: The Central Gujarat region includes the districts of Kheda, Anand, Vadodara, Ahmadabad, Gandhinagar, Panchmahals and Dahod. The total geographic area of the region comprises 34.13 lakh hectares. The forested area is not extensive in the region and this region leads in agricultural development. Annual rainfall averages from 800 to 1000 mm and the climate is semi-arid while the soil is medium black in nature. North Gujarat: The North Gujarat region includes the districts of Sabarkantha, Mehsana, Banaskantha, and Patan. Its total geographic area comprises 28.91 lakh hectares.

Abstract The present investigation entitled “Bio-chemical evaluation of mango (Mangifera indica L.) cv. Kesar at Saurashtra region” was carried out at Department of Horticulture and Food Testing Laboratory, College of Agriculture, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh during the year 2013-14. Nine different locations from Saurashtra region were selected for this experiment viz., Una, Mendarda, Bheshan, Junagadh (Sakkarbaug), Talala, Vanthali, Dhari, Aadityana and Ghogha. The harvested sample fruits from different locations were cleaned, ripened at room temperature in paper boxes, than used for further bio-chemical evaluation. The experiment was conducted in Completely Randomized Design. The myth has been proven to be real from this scientific study.

Origins of Unity and Communalism in Gujarat, India Abstract "Before I tell you what happened to in 2002…Do you know the history behind this? Do you understand the origins, how all this started?" To the majority of residents living in the city of Rajkot in the state of Gujarat, India the 2002 riots are comprehensible only as addendums to a kind of perennial Hindu-Muslim communal conflict that they describe as having waged for "many years" in the region. But, the central ambiguity to decipher is this term "many years." While it might seem as if residents are referring to a historically significant time period beginning in the medieval ages and concluding now, within minutes of interviewing them, regardless of their gender, class, age or religion, it becomes clear that even ancient history to them is in fact the history of India's independence. The term "many years" is specifically referring to a fairly recent 1990's decade of violent Hindu-Muslim relations, sparked by destruction of the Ayodhya mosque in 2002.
