This past National Morgan Horse Show gave promise. And we were not disappointed to taking our three- year old nephew and Godchild, Eric Christopher Nunez, along for an eye- ful. Needless to say, he was impressed and thrilled at riding Windcrest Star of Dawn in the leadline class, thanks to owner Blanchard Means, and John Spencer who led him about the show ring. Morgans do make excellent baby- sitters. This was quite apparent, back at the barn, in readying Eric for this class . . . for holding his reins, dis- dainful of the pommel, he slipped off the big western saddle and was hang- ing upside down from one ankle, like a Cossack picking knives from the ground. The baby-wise Star stopped in her tracks and looked around. We righted the moppet and he was ready, willing and eager to get going again . . a true horseman. It was with mixed emotions that we watched the 1959 National Morgan Horse Show where 300 of the top Mor- gans from throughout the United GRAND CHAMPION MODEL MORGANS States were gathered to compete in this, the show of shows. We remem- ber other years when Gerald Taft (our new president), pioneered the way for Morgans in the Mid-West by bringing his van full of good Morgans to our show in Windsor. As we viewed the Morgans this year from Illinois, Ohio, Michigan and Kansas to men- tion only a few of the states represen- ted, we were indeed pleased, not for- getting the excellent group which we have come to expect from New York and Pennsylvania, to add to those from our own New England states. It was also gratifying to note the wide dis- tribution of ribbons representing many lines of breeding, plus the get of proven sires and dams which continued to dominate many classes. This is truly a big show and as we enter the "big time" changes will be made in future years to eliminate some of the delays and late night ses- sions which marked this show. As in previous years, the Waseeka Farms from Ashland, Mass., dominated the Championships, taking both model Championships with Donfield being pinned Grand Champion Model Stal- lion, (this was the fourth year he has annexed this coveted title). A mare has fewer opportunities to produce Champion offspring than a stallion, but this one mare already has a greater roster of Champions descended from her than most of the Morgan stallions. To further prove her variety of Morgan abilities, she was New England Champion Saddle Horse as a three year old and was Grand Champion Pleasure Horse at the 1954 National Morgan Show, She is a great Morgan who is contributing to the future by producing foals' which consistently gain positions on Waseeka's Honor Roll.

We have consigned Donfield's weanling colt to the Green Meads Auction. Waseeka's Minute Man (Windcrest Don- field-Gertie G.) is own brother to Waseeka's Flirt and from the same dam as Miller's Adel. UPWEY KING BENN 8246

Upwey King Benn has in past years won blue ribbons at the National Mor- gan Horse Show in Model, Harness and Get of Sire classes. He is the sire of such well known horses as Upwey Ben Don 8843, Upwey Benn Quietude 04271, Casablanca 06156, and others. In late years he has been secluded in virtual retirement but is now at home in our stud and we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of his get from several of our mares. We believe that he will assume an important place in our breeding program and that his get will continue to find favor among Morgan Horse owners.
