  • The Life and Times of Karola Szilvássy, Transylvanian Aristocrat and Modern Woman*
Cristian, Réka M.. “The Life and Times of Karola Szilvássy, A Transylvanian Aristocrat and Modern Woman.” Hungarian Cultural Studies. e-Journal of the American Hungarian Educators Association, Volume 12 (2019) DOI: 10.5195/ahea.2019.359 The Life and Times of Karola Szilvássy, Transylvanian Aristocrat and Modern Woman* Réka M. Cristian Abstract: In this study Cristian surveys the life and work of Baroness Elemérné Bornemissza, née Karola Szilvássy (1876 – 1948), an internationalist Transylvanian aristocrat, primarily known as the famous literary patron of Erdélyi Helikon and lifelong muse of Count Miklós Bánffy de Losoncz, who immortalized her through the character of Adrienne Milóth in his Erdélyi trilógia [‘The Transylvanian Trilogy’]. Research on Karola Szilvássy is still scarce with little known about the life of this maverick woman, who did not comply with the norms of her society. She was an actress and film director during the silent film era, courageous nurse in the World War I, as well as unusual fashion trendsetter, gourmet cookbook writer, Africa traveler—in short, a source of inspiration for many women of her time, and after. Keywords: Karola Szilvássy, Miklós Bánffy, János Kemény, Zoltán Óváry, Transylvanian aristocracy, modern woman, suffrage, polyglot, cosmopolitan, Erdélyi Helikon Biography: Réka M. Cristian is Associate Professor, Chair of the American Studies Department, University of Szeged, and Co-chair of the university’s Inter-American Research Center. She is author of Cultural Vistas and Sites of Identity: Literature, Film and American Studies (2011), co-author (with Zoltán Dragon) of Encounters of the Filmic Kind: Guidebook to Film Theories (2008), and general editor of AMERICANA E-Journal of American Studies in Hungary, as well as its e-book division, AMERICANA eBooks.

  • STATE RECORDKEEPING in the CLOUD Lorraine L. Richards A
EVIDENCE-AS-A-SERVICE: STATE RECORDKEEPING IN THE CLOUD Lorraine L. Richards A dissertation submitted to the faculty of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the School Information and Library Science. Chapel Hill 2014 Approved by: Christopher A. Lee Helen R. Tibbo Richard Marciano Jeffrey Pomerantz Theresa A. Pardo © 2014 Lorraine L. Richards ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ii ABSTRACT Lorraine L. Richards: Evidence-as-a-Service: State Recordkeeping in the Cloud (Under the Direction of Christopher A. Lee) The White House has engaged in recent years in efforts to ensure greater citizen access to government information and greater efficiency and effectiveness in managing that information. The Open Data policy and recent directives requiring that federal agencies create capacity to share scientific data have fallen on the heels of the Federal Government’s “Cloud First” policy, an initiative requiring Federal agencies to consider using cloud computing before making IT investments. Still, much of the information accessed by the public resides in the hands of state and local records creators. Thus, this exploratory study sought to examine how cloud computing actually affects public information recordkeeping stewards. Specifically, it investigated whether recordkeeping stewards’ concerns about cloud computing risks are similar to published risks in newly implemented cloud computing environments, it examined their perceptions of how cross-occupational relationships affect their ability to perform recordkeeping responsibilities in the Cloud, and it compared how recordkeeping roles and responsibilities are distributed within their organizations. The distribution was compared to published reports of recordkeeping roles and responsibilities in archives and records management journals published over the past 42 years.

Martynas Marozas Project made by Ana Petriashvili KAUNAS 2017 2 ANNOTATION The lack of researches, concentrating on identifying urban features that can be associated with target selection by terrorists, determined thesis overriding question and goal, identify environmental security design elements, as well as spatial urban structures that can possible influence choice of places for terror attacks. To accomplish main goal, some prerequisite goals have been taken into account. Initially, a brief history of terrorism and anti-terrorism design with number of examples and cases have been analyzed and assessed, where some sophisticated security design principles have been highlighted. For humanizing ant-terrorism design elements, crime prevention strategies have been explored, ending with a basic principle of urban and civic design. Second Chapter of a thesis, researches environmental design factors and spatial urban structures that may influence the choice of places for terror attacks. Findings have reviled the chance of terror attack is high when ‘site has a direct access to the main street’; when ‘there are multiple entrances and exits to and from the site’; when ‘site is well-used’; when ‘public and private activities are separated’; when ‘many same functional buildings are redistributed in a surrounding area’; when ‘site has a direct access to the city center’.
