3 5 FEUSISBERG What is now the municipality of Feusisberg used to belong partly to the political area of influence of the estate Vorderer Hof (Pfäffikon) and partly to that of Hinterer Hof (). That’s where today’s district of “Höfe” got its name from. Following construction of the Wädenswil–Einsiedeln railway line in 1877, Feusisberg enjoyed a period of prosperity as a health resort with hotels, guest- houses, and a mountain inn with lookout tower on Etzelkulm. Some 100 years later, following the opening of the A3 motorway, the rural village with its unique location and views began attracting new residents and received fresh impulses. Forming the roof of the Höfe district, the municipality of Feusisberg lies in the midst of lush meadows and woods, and boasts unparalleled views of Lake Zurich. SCHINDELLEGI AND 19 BIBERBRUGG

The Schindellegi part of the municipality got its name in the mid-13th century from the original term “schindellera”, which is rather rare in Switzerland and denotes the place where shingles and logs were stored. The logs that were felled in the forests of the upland valley – in Einsiedeln and Ibrig – were rafted down the river to Schindellegi, where they were stopped by a wooden rake. So, from its origins as a trading place, Schindellegi gradually developed into a pul- sating part of the municipality. Biberbrugg, on the other hand, was primarily a river-crossing point (“bridge across the Biber”), which in 1877 lent its name to the Biberbrugg railway sta- tion. A settlement then emerged nearby.
