th SCHOOL WEEKLY NEWSLETTER: - Monday 16 September 2019

Kia orana, This term is nearly coming to an end and still with so much to do. Last week saw us appreciating the staff here at School, a great week and thank you to all those who participated by appreciating them. I wish Whaea Emma’s soccer teams all the best in tomorrow’s Soccer tournament in Thames. Thank you to the parents who have offered to help with supervision and or transport. Due to the outbreak of Measles in we need to ensure that our immunisation register is up to date so that we can act quickly and efficiently if a case is diagnosed here in Hikutaia. Karen has been in contact with most parents/caregivers to obtain an immunisation certificate that confirms your child is fully or partially immunised. If your child’s immunisation has changed since they first started here please let Karen know as soon as possible. This week I am away attending a three day conference (Hui) in Rotorua. I will be back in School on Thursday, so if there are any issues please do not hesitate and see Mrs. Cameron. We have a few activities happening this week and next so please continue to read on.

Thames Schools Speech Competition Well done to Quinn, Jesse, Kaeden and Milah who presented their speeches on Friday at the Thames School Speech Competition. You all did very well.

Slinkies Collection Appreciation On behalf of the School and BOT I would like to thank the farmers and our parents who volunteered their time to pick up the slinks this year. I realise that this is a busy time especially for our farming community, and taking time to collect the slinks we really do appreciate this. Also a special thank you to Jeff Alley although not a parent of the school but a community member who gave up his time to collect slinks as he has done over the past years.

To date we have picked up nearly 600 over the 12 weeks and raised approximately $3000.

As a sign of our appreciation we would like to invite our collectors and farmers to a thank you at the pioneer tavern on Thursday 26th September at 6.30. This year there are some prizes for collectors.

Senior Class: Mrs Robinson, Whaea Emma & Matua Wayne Kia ora Koutou, Welcome to week 9. Whaea Emma and Room 2 will be attending the soccer tournament in Thames tomorrow. If children have soccer boots/moulded rugby boots they will be great, otherwise, trainers are fine. Shin pads are essential. We will be making pompoms for Ag day displays, but these are proving time-consuming, so if you are able to support your child by making one at home that would be much appreciated. Also, this week touch rugby starts on Thursday - a draw will be posted on our Facebook page when it becomes available. Children need to wear black shorts and a sports t-shirt. Please ensure fees are paid by the end of this week. Ngaa Mihi nui - Olivia Robinson, Whaea Emma and Matua Wayne

Room 5 Mrs Donovan Wow, week nine! The children are tired and many are sick, but we can make it. Keep the reading going at home. If a book doesn't come home, they can read anything at home. Most of the children are 'reading to learn' not learning to read at this stage, so they can enjoy non-fiction texts and learn about the world around them. We are continuing with our Kiwi inquiry and hope to share those slides on Seesaw soon. We will also be continuing with our Calf Club projects, so get your pompom in as soon as possible. Have a great week. Kind Regards, Angela Donovan

Room 4: Mr Bax This week we are getting stuck into creating our arts and crafts for Ag day next term. Students will bring in pom poms from home to decorate in the last week. In Maths we are exploring geometry as part of our strand. We will be making the most of our fine weather this week to practise our ball skills in PE. On Tuesday we are visiting the library to return and issue our books. Have a great week. .

Room 3: Mrs Cameron This weekend certainly had a Spring feel to it. Thank you to those parents who have sent in their egg carton and pom pom last week. If your child has not bought them in yet, could they please do so by Thursday if possible, as I would like to make a start on their Ag displays on Friday. A permission slip will come home tomorrow regarding the trip to Ohinemuri House next Wednesday. Could these be returned this week also if possible. Hope your child is enjoying their free Duffy books that they received last week. Have a great week.
