2017-08-19 Copenhagen Liberty
Copenhagen Liberty Sunday, August 20 We had a couple hours between flights and went to Huxley's for an English Breakfast. We both had opened the box breakfast British Airways offered about an hour and a half before landing... and we closed the boxes back up. Then we cleared the checkpoint for through passengers and had time to catch up before our connecting flight to Copenhagen. Liz had salmon eggs Benedict and I had eggs, English bacon and a banger, grilled tomato, and baked beans. The banger was less than tasty and my stomach began acting up, either from the curried chicken the night before or the banger this morning. I was uncomfortably cramped. We walked through the terminal to catch the transfer train to our gate. They had a standing, woman shaped screen which almost seemed like a hologram and, depending which language had been selected, spoke to passersby to tell them how to use the train. It was quite clever and very realistic. We followed her guidance and made our way to Gate 62 in A Terminal. The two hour flight passed quickly and we were immediately met at luggage claim by our guide to the hotel. There were six people in our ride but later that day we would be joined by another 19 people on the On Line Vacation extension. When we arrived at the Trivoli Hotel and Convention Center we were 121 surprised to see Olivier, our London hotel guide from last year. He would coordinate our booking and then go on to Stockholm later in the week. -

Siderne fremtræder hvide over en høj sandstenssokkel. -
Frederiksstaden Set Fra En Anden Vinkel
Final Syllabus Ancient Art and Archaeology Instructor: Thyge C. Bro Credits: 3 credit course Majors: Archaeology, Art History, Classics, History B3: Tuesdays and Fridays 11:40 – 13:00 Class-room: F24 - 406 Ancient Art and Archeology: The Copenhagen Collections DIS – Study Abroad in Scandinavia | Related Disciplines: Art History, Classics Final Syllabus This course focuses on the art and archaeology of ancient Greece and Rome from c. 1000 B.C. to c. A.D. 300, as it can be experienced through the collections in museums in Copenhagen. Stylistic and iconographical developments, as well as cultural meaning and historical context will be emphasized. The students will have the unique opportunity to study some of the finest collections of Greek and Roman art outside Greece and Italy. A substantial part of this course will take place observing firsthand the Collections of the Danish National Museum and the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek. Both museums are well known for their collections: the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek for its Greek sculptures and Roman portraits, and the National Museum for its Greek vases. Both have large collections of all kinds of objects from the ancient Mediterranean. By studying in these world-class museums, student will also gain a better understanding of musicological issues and methodology. Over the centuries a unique art and architecture developed and matured in first Greece and later in the Roman Empire. The many aspects of ancient Greek art can best be studied through two media: vase painting and sculpture. Greek vase painting developed over time; changing pattern of color and shape, showing gods and heroes, and is our best illustration to scenes from daily life. -
SYDHAVNEN/SLUSEHOLMEN COPENHAGEN Harbour Renovation Project 2000-2009
SYDHAVNEN/SLUSEHOLMEN COPENHAGEN Harbour renovation project 2000-2009 Text by Sjoerd Soeters Sydhavnen is the southern harbour disctrict of Copenhagen, located south of the historic city. With Java Island in Amsterdam as an example, Sjoerd Soeters was asked by the Municipality of Copenhagen to make a plan for the transformation of Sydhavnen into a residential area. Sydhavnen consists entirely of city blocks, situated so as to be oriented toward the water on all sides. In order to achieve this, kilometers of canal were added to the area. The size of the blocks are based on the dimensions of the large city blocks in the centre of Copenhagen. The twists and curves of the canals create constantly chang- ing spatial effects and sightlines. Sluseholmen is the first application of the Sydhavnen plan. The island is character- ized by a panoramic view of the surrounding water and a more intimate inner side. The inner area is formed by a curved main canal and several short lateral canals. Each city block is made up of different dwelling types. Supervised by Sjoerd Soeters, the facades of the blocks were worked out by different Dan- ish architects. Architectural guidelines were set for materials, colours, spatial effects and building height, to ensure that each city block remains unified and fits in with the greater ensemble. - 1 - Soeters Van Eldonk architecten Masterplan Sydhavnen 2000 Phase 1: Sluseholmen 2003-2009 Client masterplan Masterplan, supervision and architectural guidelines Byggemodningsselskabet Sluseholmen PS (Københavns Sjoerd Soeters Havn & Københavns Kommune) Developer Masterplan JM Danmark - Karre A & B Sjoerd Soeters Sjælsøgruppen - Karre C, D, F & H Nordicom - Karre E & G Block architects - design, construction & coordination Arkitema - Karre A, B, C, D, F & H Gröning Arkitekter - Karre E & G Landscape Arkitema Facade architects Arkitema Kim Utzon Arkitekter C.F. -

Historical, Sociological and Ideological Perspectives on Kwakuvi Azasu’S the Slave Raiders
International Journal of Liberal Arts and Social Science Vol. 2 No. 6 August, 2014 Beyond Fiction: Historical, Sociological and Ideological perspectives on Kwakuvi Azasu’s The Slave Raiders ADJEI, Mawuli Department of English, University of Ghana, P.O. Box LG129, Legon, Ghana Email: [email protected] Abstract In many of his creative works, Ghanaian writer Kwakuvi Azasu’s background as historian, cultural anthropologist and Pan-Africanist comes through forcefully. In particular, he engages with the subject of the trans-Atlantic Slave Trade at many levels, and does so from a position of a thorough grasp of his native Anlo history and culture. In this paper, The Slave Raiders, his most ambitious work to date, is critically examined from historical, sociological and ideological perspectives. It is argued that, by and large, the text is engineered to deconstruct established hegemonies and to re-write the script of slavery, through fiction, from an Afrocentric point of view. Keywords: slave, raiders, sociological, ideological, historical, racism, negation 1.0 Introduction The predominance of the slave experience as a theme in Ghanaian literature, especially from the 1960s (Aidoo 1965, 1970; Armah 1973, 1995; Awoonor 1992; Anyidoho 1993; Brew 1995; Opoku-Agyemang 1996 etc.), indicates how central it is to the country’s literary tradition and identity. In The Slave Raiders, a story that has a dual setting and alternates between Anloland and England, Azasu explores a wide array of themes that undergird the relationship between Europe and Africa within the framework of the slave experience. As the title of the novel suggests, the greater focus is on England—the “slave raiders.” And implicit in the title is a strong reference to the subject of slavery as a “raid,” both denotatively and connotatively, rather than a “trade,” which for ages has been the operative word in the discourse relating to the trans-Atlantic dealing in human beings as commodities of exchange. -
