Our annual Noho marae was a great success. We had a record number of past students with their tamariki, past staff and whānau keen to reconnect and participate in the experience. We had lots going on: raranga (weaving), catch and release tuna fishing, a visit to Kaiapoi Pā , waiata, korero, games, and lots of beautiful kai. Thanks to Ngai Tūāhuriri and Te kura a Tuahiwi for welcoming us and our community and supporting us with this event.

Our Kererū Pepī project is a new initiative in collaboration with Tuahiwi School. We take a small group of pepī (babies) for fortnightly visits to a classroom at Tuahiwi. Here there is a focus on developing tuakana-teina (older person-younger person) relationships amongst the school children and our pepī. Research has shown that having babies in the classroom reduces levels of bullying and increases the development of empathy and aroha (love) between children. So far the project is a huge success for all involved.

I would like to acknowledge the awesome kaiako at Karanga Mai, also Karanga Mai Young Parents College and Kaiapoi High for their commitment to working in partnership towards success for all our learners.

Our Poem

Community Wellbeing, what does it mean?

Opportunity in a place where we can be seen

Making a difference, that’s what we do

Mentoring, supporting and listening too

Understanding our youth and family needs

Nurturing and guiding them to succeed

Inspiring each other in the service we provide

Together we can change so many lives

You, me, us and

Community Wellbeing North Canterbury Trust
