  • Two Into One – Compiled by Jean D.Turvey
Two Into One – compiled by Jean D.Turvey Page 1 Two Into One – compiled by Jean D.Turvey Page 2 Two Into One – compiled by Jean D.Turvey Published by Kaiapoi Co-operating Parish 53 Fuller Street Kaiapoi Email - [email protected] ISBN 0-476-00222-2 ©Copyright Kaiapoi Co-operating Parish, February 2004 Printed by Wickliffe Print 482 Moorhouse Avenue Christchurch PREFACE This is a story of three parishes - one Methodist, one Presbyterian, and one Co- operating - worshiping and witnessing in Kaiapoi in three different centuries. It starts with pioneer settlers in a small village half a world away from their homes. It ends - at least this part of the story does - in a burgeoning satellite town. Letters and news originally took months to arrive. Now they are as instant as emails and television. However, through the dramatic changes of the last 150 years runs the common thread of faith. This is a story which needs to be read twice. The first time, read what Jean Turvey has written. In any history there are those people who stand out because of their leadership, strong personalities, or eccentricities. Ministers loom large, simply because they are involved in most aspects of parish life. Buildings feature, because they provide a focal point for congregational life. The second reading of this history is more difficult. You need to read between the lines, to focus on what is not written. The unrecorded history of these three parishes is just as vital as the narration of obvious events and personalities. It consists of people whose names are unknown, but who worshipped faithfully and gave life to these local churches.

Christchurch City Council (Lancaster Park) Land Vesting Bill Local Bill Explanatory note General policy statement The purpose ofthis Bill is to facilitate the redevelopment ofLancaster Park as a modern sports stadium for the future. Lancaster Park opened in 1881 and has been the venue for many im- portant sporting moments in Canterbury's history. From its opening until the First World War, the Park was owned by a private company. In 1919 Parliament passed the Victory Park Act which vested title to the land at Lancaster Park in the Crown to be used for cricket, rugby and other sports, amusements, entertainments, and events. The Act recorded that Lancaster Park was to be held in trust for those purposes in commemoration ofthe Canterbury soldiers who died in the service of New Zealand in the First World War. The Act established the Victory Park Board to control and manage the Park. Although the Act was called the Victory Park Act, the Park continued to be known in Canterbury and New Zealand by its original name of Lancaster Park. In 1997 it was realised that the facilities at Lancaster Park were not coping with demands. The public and sporting codes were increas- ingly demanding better facilities that were more appropriate to the 21 st Century. With the international growth of rugby and cricket in the 1990s, it became apparent that only facilities of a high standard 196--1 Christchurch City Council (Lancaster 2 Park) Land Vesting Bill Explanatory note would be used by those sports. Retention ofbig sporting matches has an important and beneficial economic effect for Christchurch City and the Canterbury Province.

  • The Stadium Broadcast, a Radio Memorial Author: Dr Zita Joyce, University of Canterbury
“We’re looking out through a window to a field of weeds and sand and stones”: The Stadium Broadcast, a radio memorial Author: Dr Zita Joyce, University of Canterbury Contact: Dr Zita Joyce [email protected] Media and Communication, University of Canterbury, Private Bag 4800 Christchurch 8140 New Zealand 1 “We’re looking out through a window to a field of weeds and sand and stones”: The Stadium Broadcast, a radio memorial Abstract: This paper explores the scope of small-scale radio to create an auditory geography of place. It focuses on the short term art radio project The Stadium Broadcast, which was staged in November 2014 in an earthquake-damaged sports stadium in Christchurch, New Zealand. Thousands of buildings and homes in Christchurch have been demolished since the Februrary 22, 2011 earthquake, and while Lancaster Park sports stadium is still standing, it has been unused since that date and its future remains uncertain. The Stadium Broadcast constructed a radio memorial to the Park’s 130 year history through archival recordings, the memories of local people, observation of its current state, and a performed site-specificity. The Stadium Broadcast reflected on the spatiality of radio sounds and transmissions, memory, post-disaster transitionality, and the im-permanence of place. 2 The Stadium Broadcast Introduction A long sequence of earthquakes affecting Christchurch city and the broader Canterbury region began on 4 September 2010, with the most damaging aftershock on 22 February, 2011, a magnitude 6.3 quake located under the hills on the southern edge of the city (Geonet, n.d.).

Waimak United Football Club SENIOR MATCH DAY PROGRAM Saturday 30th June 2018 waimakunited.org.nz COMMENTS FROM THE CLUB Hello and welcome to another week of football. The in-house junior program is now well into its stride and it is great to see so many kids out there learning new skills, trying their hardest and having fun. Thanks again to all the coaches who give their time and effort to make it all possible. Many kids will be experiencing their first World Cup and trying to take what they see on the screen out into the playground during the week and then the pitch in the weekend - I still have memories of following my first World Cup many years ago. The World Cup has also provided a distraction for some of the more mature members of the club, with a few looking worse for wear after early morning viewing. The tournament has now progressed to the knockout stages, with some of the pre-tournament favourites barely making it through. I am sure we'll see a few more upsets before the final whistle is blown. Speaking of tournaments, planning is well progressed for various tournaments that our club teams will be involved in over the coming months. We are proud to be able to field 14 strong teams in the South Island Tournaments in October. This is testament to the strength and depth that we have in our Junior and Youth grades. The club is also proud to be hosting the Alan Fraser Memorial Tournament for girls in mid-July.

These features also provide a wealth of recreational opportunities. The Department of Conservation’s Canterbury Conservancy is responsible for some 1293 units of land, and for the protection of important natural resources generally. To help manage these resources and activities the Conservancy, in consultation with the then North Canterbury and Aoraki Conservation Boards, has prepared a Conservation Management Strategy (CMS). The CMS sets out the management directions the Conservancy will take for the next ten years, the objectives it wants to achieve and the means by which it will achieve these. The draft CMS was released for public comment on 18 November 1995. Submissions closed on 1 April 1996, and 174 were received. Public oral submissions were heard in May and June of 1996. Consultation with Ngäi Tahu Papatipu Rünanga occurred from July to December 1996, and with Te Rünanga o Ngäi Tahu from July 1996 to May 1997. A summary of submissions and a decision schedule indicating the extent of acceptance of all submissions was prepared and given full consideration in revising the draft CMS. The revised draft CMS and summary of submissions was presented to the Conservation Boards for their consideration.
