Rose was the oldest child of Anna Pearl Rose Stauber (1905-1971) and Martin Stevens Stauber (1903- 1992). Graduating from Noel High School in 1946, Rose went on to Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State University) graduating in 1949.
