  • Beste Raadsleden, Het Zaans Museum Heeft De Afgelopen Jaren Laten Zien
    Beste raadsleden, Het Zaans Museum heeft de afgelopen jaren laten zien niet alleen ambitieus te zijn, maar tevens een belangrijke bijdrage te kunnen leveren om Zaanstad op de culturele kaart van Nederland te zetten. Het museum maakte een enorme sprong voorwaarts; van 70.000 bezoekers in 2015 naar 110.000 in 2016. De aankoop van een ‘Zaanse’ Monet, de vestiging van drie museumlocaties met levende geschiedenis op de Zaanse Schans, de samenwerking met het Hembrug Museum en vernieuwingen in de Verkade Experience en het Czaar Peterhuisje werden beloond met een flinke bezoekersgroei. Nu zijn we aangekomen op een kruispunt. Gaan we met dezelfde Zaanse lef door? Er liggen de komende jaren tal van haalbare kansen voor ons! Sinds de oprichting van het museum in 1998 is de subsidie echter vrijwel gelijk gebleven. Met een verhoging van dat bedrag kan het museum doorgroeien van regionaal streekmuseum tot culturele eredivisiespeler met landelijke allure. Met alle gevolgen van dien voor Zaanstad; meer museumpubliek betekent immers: meer (nationale) bezoekers voor een ‘dagje of weekendje Zaandam’ en daarmee meer inkomsten voor hotels, horeca en het MKB. We hebben de voor zichzelf sprekende feiten voor u op een overzichtelijk rijtje gezet in bijgaand pamflet. Tuurlijk vallen er voor u de komende tijd moeilijke financiële keuzes te maken. Voordat u die maakt vragen wij een momentje van uw tijd om ons pamflet te bekijken. Om te zien dat investeren in het Zaans Museum uiteindelijk niet alleen geld oplevert, maar tevens Zaanstad voor bewoners en (inter)nationale bezoekers nog aantrekkelijker maakt.     Presentatie Zaans Museum in Gemeenteraad Zaanstad 30 mei 2017 Dames en heren, Er was eens een tamelijk onbewoonbaar nat gebied rond een rivier. Mensen wilden er zich vestigen al was het eigenlijk ondoenlijk. Maar het eerste groepje mensen bestond uit doorzetters. Ze trokken niet verder maar temden de natuur. Ze groeven sloten, bouwden dijken en windmolens. Toen ze droge voeten hadden en het land bewerkbaar hadden gemaakt dachten ze na wat ze verder met de windmolens konden doen. Het bleken niet alleen doorzetters maar tevens innovatieve geesten. Windmolens werden industriemolens en het aanvankelijk onbewoonbaar-geachte gebied veranderde in het eerste industriegebied van West-Europa. Het DNA van de oorspronkelijke doorzetters kwam in het bloed van de opvolgende generaties. Mensen van niet lullen maar poetsen, innoveren, ondernemen, niet to veel hierarchies kortom u — de Zaankanter. Deze geschiedenis vormde niet alleen de mensen maar ook het landschap. Uitgestrekte polders met waterpartijen, molens en houten huizen, onder zware Hollandse luchten die zo fraai reflecteren in de Zaan. En wat nemand zich ooit had beseft; ditland werd door de rest van de wereld als zeer exotisch gezien. De Franse schilder Claude Monet werd betoverd door dit typische Zaanse landschap; hij zag het nog net op tijd in het wild, voordat het voor een groot deel verdween vanwege de industrialisatie. En nu komen er miljoenen mensen dat landschap bewonderen, in reservaatvorm op de Zaanse Schans. Toeristen die vanuit Amsterdam Haar de Zaanse Schans komen denken massaal dat ze touter in Holland zijn. Dat beeld wit het Zaans Museum verdiepen, daarom gooiden wij twee jaar geleden het roer om.
