An Art auction to raise money for DASH to celebrate 40 years of supporting children with disabilities and their families.

Ocsiwn Gelf i godi arian i DASH Ceredigion i ddathlu 40 mlynedd o gefnogi plant ag anableddau a'u teuluoedd.

We are extremely grateful to all the artists who have donated their work and to others who have given works for the auction and prizes for the raffle.

Rydym yn hynod o ddiolchgar i'r holl artistiaid sydd wedi cyfrannu eu gwaith ac i eraill sydd wedi rhoi gweithiau ar gyfer yr ocsiwn a gwobrau ar gyfer y raffl.

Since 1978, DASH Ceredigion has been organising a variety of leisure schemes for disabled children and young people within the county of Ceredigion. We do this so that local disabled children and their families can have a better quality of life with access to a wide choice of leisure facilities and opportunities. Parents and carers get time to recharge their batteries and disabled children and young people get time of their own for personal, social and creative development in a welcoming and fun environment.

Rydym yn gwneud hyn er mwyn i blant anabl lleol a'u teuluoedd gael gwell ansawdd bywyd gyda mynediad at ddewis ehangach o gyfleusterau hamdden a chyfleoedd eraill. Gall rhieni a gofalwyr gael cyfle am seibiant i fagu nerth tra bod y plant a'r bobl ifanc anabl yn cael amser eu hunain ar gyfer datblygiad personol, cymdeithasol a chreadigol mewn amgylchedd croesawgar.

artist. Barry Arnold has lived in Pontgarreg, Ceredigion for 35 years with his wife, Christine, who is also an artist. The seascape, landscape, farms and buildings have proved an unlimited source of inspiration for his paintings. They have a feeling of warmth and tranquility, and he produces work that is representative of how the countryside ‘feels’ rather than looks and they seem to capture the ‘soul’ of the land. Leman was one of the pre-eminent designers of silk textiles in the first half of the 18th century in England. 97 of his watercolour designs, bound in an original Spitalfields design book and dated 1706-1730, are in the Victorian and Albert museum.

artist, community arts practitioner. Bodge is a member of Borth Arts / Celfyddydau Y Borth (fbk.: @BorthArts) and has exhibited in and England. The group had a touring exhibition: ‘On the Edge/ Ar yr Ymyl’ in 2017. Inspired by local land and sea scape, the vibrant light which one experiences in Borth is reflected in Bodge’s work. Living and working in , Chris Dodd and his wife Justine produce unique pieces. “We are passionate about our traditional craft, and still use tools and techniques that were used by stained glass artists hundreds of years ago.”

Artist, printmaker and creative multidisciplinary practitioner. Gwenllian has a BA in Fine Art from Cardiff School of Art and, since gaining a Masters degree at Wimbledon School of Art in 1996, has been a freelance artist and workshop facilitator inspiring creativity in others; utilizing non formal/ informal educational principles in settings such as schools, theatre and the community, this aspect of her creative practice is currently the focus of her doctorate. She has been a lecturer at the School of Applied Art and Art Practice, University of Wales Trinity St David since 2005 and is a senior lecturer at Y Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol. Gwenllian has exhibited widely both here and abroad – in April (2018) she showed her work in Taith Contemporary Art (www.taith.eu)’s ‘A Moveable Feast’ exhibition in Vienna. She strives to work in a sustainable way, minimizing the risk to the environment; she mainly incorporates painting and printing within her works on paper. Amongst her multidisciplinary projects in Ceredigion one can note her Murlun y Bont in – with Euros Lewis and the Eliffant project, which was nominated for a Times Educational Supplement in 2012 for Widening Participation.

artist. From a very young child, Averil was fascinated by drawing and painting. However, she was advised to drop art in the sixth form and concentrate on science, and she graduated with a first-class honours degree in Biochemistry at University College of Wales Aberystwyth. She continued painting as often as she could while bringing up a family and did a part-time foundation course. Two weeks before she was due to start a Fine Arts degree in 1993 Averil suffered a paralysing stoke. The amazing story of her recovery and how she learnt to draw and paint with her left hand was featured as ‘Success Story’ in Artists and Illustrators February 1998. Averil was joint winner at the Royal Cambrian Academy’s open exhibition in Conwy in 2012 and regularly exhibits her paintings in solo and group exhibitions. She is a member of Celf Canolbarth Cymru/Mid-Wales Arts and has works in private collections in Europe and beyond. artist. artist.Wynne Melville Jones became well known throughout Wales as a pioneer of bilingual PR activities and for his involvement in the Urdd (designer of the iconic ‘Mr Urdd’). The former art student has now returned to his main interest – visual art. This painting of Elvis Rock has generated considerable interest in the USA and a print can be seen in Gracelands. artist and educator. After graduating from the Cardiff College of Art, Ann chose teaching as a career; her first post was at and subsequently she taught at Penglais School where she was head of Art. Ann is a member of Y Llunwyr/ The Picture makers, a collective of visual artists working in mid-Wales. She has exhibited with a number of groups and has works in private collections in UK, Europe and Canada. Recent solo exhibitions: Aberystwyth Arts Centre and MOMA Machynlleth (2016); she will be curating an exhibition ‘The Sea’ at Aberystwyth Arts Centre (27 July till early September 2018). artist. Patti studied Art in Wolverhampton and Farnham Surrey. She draws and paints on varying scales – from tiny animation characters to large installations. “My paintings sometimes move from a flat surface to a three dimensional space. I create my structure using heavy watercolour paper. For the larger scale works I create a framework of welded builders mesh.” She has exhibited her work in Wales and England and holds workshops. This young man from Northern Ireland regularly spends time with his brothers volunteering their building and carpentry skills in third world countries. With his brother Stephen, was invaluable in helping with the garden party fundraiser for DASH in Plas Hendre in 2014 for which he also contributed a selection of his paintings. Although naïve in style, they clearly portray his love for the animals on the family’s small holding.

Andrew has been a full time artist since 2009, following a career in the graphic arts. He works mostly in landscape painting and uses a variety of media, from acrylic and oil to collage and found materials. His subject matter is the west country and Wales - particularly his home county of Ceredigion. “My work is all about the coast, the river and the mountains. Colour and form are important to me. I take a journalistic approach and I aim to evoke a sense of place and time.”

She has exhibited widely and has works in many private collections and is a member of Aberystwyth Printmakers. artist and printmaker. Ruth Jên has a BA degree in Fine Art, specialising in printmaking, from Cardiff College of Art and an MA in Fine Art from Aberystwyth University. She is an well-known printmaker, who has exhibited extensively both in Wales and abroad. Although printmaking is her main activity, she has expanded her skills to include design, illustration, murals and part-time teaching. As well as working in the field of education, in galleries, schools and colleges, she also has experience in organising and running community projects. Llyfrynnau wedi’u hargraffu â llaw/ Hand printed booklets

Never conceived of as being a commercial venture, Huw does not sell his publications but, rather, chooses to give them to his friends. Therefore it is rare to find these items coming up on the open market. After graduating from The College of Librarianship Wales, Huw spent his working life at the National Library of Wales (amongst other things he prepared a catalogue of David Jones’s Library, which was published by the Library, 1995). Having studied book production as a student, he became interested and passionate about creating his own hand printed items. He bought a desk-top printer and type, and ink and paper while he lived at Llety Gwyn, Llanbadarn before he moved to Aberffrwd, Cwm Rheidol. In 1973, he was able to develop his equipment when he bought an old early 20th- century “Arab” treadle platen printing press from the widow of Llanidloes printer John Ellis. [Halifax, J.Wade c.1909] The name of the press changed with every house move: Llety Gwyn, Arad Goch,Y Wern. Over the years, Huw has produced one book, about 40 booklets as well as other smaller items. As a poet himself, it is not surprising that the subject matter of the booklets is mostly poetry, the number produced for each item ranging from a few hundreds to around twenty. A number of his publications feature the work of various artists such as Gareth Lloyd Hughes and Tegwyn Jones.

Symudodd o’r Llety Gwyn, Llanbadarn, i fyw yn Aber-ffrwd, Cwm Rheidol, ac yn 1973 prynodd hen wasg argraffu Arab (c.1909) gan weddw’r argraffydd John Ellis, Llanidloes. Oherwydd iddo symud tŷ dair gwaith, mae wedi bod yn berchen ar bedair “gwasg” o ran enw gan ei fod yn newid yr enw bob tro. O ran pynciau’r cynnyrch, barddoniaeth sydd fwyaf poblogaidd ganddo. Dros y blynyddoedd cynhyrchodd un llyfr, tua 40 llyfryn a mân eitemau eraill, gyda’r rhediad yn amrywio o ychydig gannoedd i tuag ugain. Yn ei gyhoeddiadau, cydweithiodd â nifer o artistiaid megis Gareth Lloyd Hughes a Tegwyn Jones. Nid datblygu gwasg fasnachol oedd bwriad Huw ond yn hytrach creu gwaith â llaw o ran diddordeb. “Creu’r eitemau sy’n rhoi pleser nid eu marchnata.”

Gwenllian, from Aberystwyth, was awarded the prestigious young artist scholarship at the 2015 National Eisteddfod, which she used to study traditional woodblock printing in Japan in summer 2016. Her installation (aluminium foil & light box) ‘Dawns y Drudwy’/Murmuration’ was exhibited at the 2016 National Eisteddfod to much acclaim. She is in her 3rd year studying for a Fine Art Drawing degree at Camberwell College of Arts. She is the great grand-daughter of the renowned artist Edrica Huws.

Enillodd Gwenllian yr ysgoloriaeth i artist ifanc yn Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Meifod a’i ddefnyddio i fynd i Siapan yn haf 2016 i astudio printio traddodiadol ar flociau pren. artist and illustrator. Lizzie creates images inspired by the language, imagery and culture of her native West Wales. Although she went away to art college she was drawn back to the sea and sky of Aberystwyth. “I love walking the beaches and coming across pieces of driftwood that have elements to their shape, form and colour which dictate what they should become ... I find blocks that I know will make perfect harbour walls, curved pieces for fish and wider boards for stretches of sky. I have always found the wood far more inspiring than a blank canvass or piece of pristine paper. I also like that my work gives a new purpose to the old and unwanted pieces of flotsam and jetsam.” (interview January 26, 2013 on simplethings.com) She launched her illustrated book of Welsh songs and rhymes Gyda’n Gilydd (2015) that helped her learn Welsh as a small child, to pass on to her own young children, to coincide with a solo exhibition in Cardiff (a 2nd expanded edition is in preparation). Rydw i bob amser wedi ffeindio bod pren yn rhoi llawer mwy o ysbrydoliaeth i mi na chynfas wag neu ddarn o bapur dilychwin. Hefyd rwyf yn hoffi fod fy ngwaith yn rhoi pwrpas newydd i’r hen ddarnau gwrthodedig o froc môr.”Lansiodd ei llyfr darluniadol o hwiangerddi Cymraeg, Gyda’n Gilydd , yn 2015 er młyn trosglwyddo i’w phlant ei hun yr hyn oedd wedi’i helpu hi i ddysgu’r iaith pan oedd hi’n ferch fach (mae ail argraffiad diwygiedig ar y gweill). Over the years, Rhiannon’s exclusive jewellery – handmade in silver, gold and Welsh Gold - has developed an international reputation for quality of design and manufacture. Both her new designs and old favourites are inspired by living and working as closely as possible to the old language and traditions of the Celts, - but rather than copy from actual historical finds, she prefers to create her own new designs following old traditions and visual conventions.

A keen angler, he designed the book jacket for his friend and fellow angling enthusiast John McNeillie’s Country Blackmith and designed Bala and District Angling Association’s fine logo. artist a dylunydd. Roedd E. Meirion Roberts yn hynod lwyddiannus ac adnabyddus fel artist masnachol a dylunydd ym maes llyfrau plant, ayb (siacedi llyfrau fel Cyn Oeri’r Gwaed gan Islwyn Ffowc Elis). Lluniodd gartwnau o Gymry amlwg, e.e. Tecwyn Lloyd, a phrintiau cyfyngedig ar gyfer achlysuron arbennig fel y print hwn (enghraifft arall yw ‘Gweddi dros Gymru’, Lewis Valentine, ar gyfer Eisteddfod Bro Colwyn 1995. Cyhoeddwyd ei gyfrol, Darlun o Arlunydd , hefyd yn 1995 (Gwasg Gwynedd).

artist, printmaker and felt sculptor. Ruth is a member of Borth Arts and has a Fine Arts degree from Newcastle Upon Tyne Polytechnic. Her artistic practice has moved from video installation to vegetable dyeing fabric for appliqué through to screen-printing on fabric and is now firmly rooted in felt making. Ruth creates soft sculpture inspired by nature and felt pictures depicting the crows, jackdaws and rocks of Borth. She uses wet felting as well as needle felting. Her unique style is easy to recognize in her small animals and birds which she portrays both in a realistic way and in imaginary shapes and colours.Through working internationally and exhibiting her work in the UK, Ruth has become a well-respected felt maker. Internationally acclaimed artist and printmaker Mary Lloyd Jones is one of Wales’s foremost living artists. Born in Pontarfynach in 1934, Mary has exhibited regularly since 1966 and her works are in numerous public and private collections worldwide. She has received many honours, including being made an Honorary Fellow of Aberystwyth University – where some of her work is exhibited in the quad of Old College. Inspired by the Welsh landscape and in particular the man-made marks on that landscape, her bold expressionist paintings are noted for their use of vibrant and rich colour (Martin Tinney Gallery): “My aim is that my work should reflect my relationship with the land, an awareness of history, and the treasures of our literary and oral traditions. I search for devices that will enable me to create multi-layered images. This has led to my involvement with the beginnings of language, early man-made marks and the Ogham and Bardic alphabets.” “My painting is a celebration of wildernesses and often contain references to the mysterious signs and marks made by our early ancestors who had a relationship with the the natural world that we have lost.” Mary’s use of earthy colours are prompted by the rich palette of colours found in the local landscape: “You can find these amazing purples and reds in the heather for example, and by incorporating that into a work, you’re placing it, locating it but not in a completely explicit fashion. landscape artist. Philip grew up in Oxford and studied Art and History at The University College of Wales Aberystwyth, where he gained a BA degree in 1975. After a career in education in England, including preparing national training materials in Art and Design, he returned to his old university in 2010 to study for a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts (2012). The desire to return to Wales had been growing during the final stage of his career with an aspiration to paint and draw the Welsh landscape. No word exists in the English language to describe this longing but Welsh gives the perfect word, Hiraeth, a yearning for a place whose absence makes life incomplete. The study of the landscape formed the focus of the MA and during the course he began to study Welsh in a desire to draw closer to the landscape he was portraying; the names and deep cultural history that pervades the valleys, hills, villages and man-made structures in Ceredigion. His detailed landscapes are the result of scrupulous observation; the result is an understanding of light and landscape, with all its undulations, patchwork of colours, patterns and textures. Philip has works in public and private collections and has exhibitions regularly in various galleries. He will have a solo exhibition in MOMA, Machynlleth in spring 2019. He collaborated with the poet Cyril Jones and the scholar David Austin to produce two books, which represent a creative response to the Arth valley and to Strata Florida: Hud Afon Arth, 2015 (the Magic of River Arth) and Ysbryd , 2017 (the Spirit of Ystrad Fflur); both books are bilingual and are published by Gwasg Gwynfil, Tregaron. artist tirluniau. Tad (Tadeusz) Klodnicki was born in Krakow, Poland. He studied art, architecture and engineering and subsequently held a post as Assisitant Professor of Civil Engineering at Lvov and, after a period of freelance work when he won 1st prize for Bridge Design in an International Competition at Warsaw in 1937, he became an Assistant Professor of Architecture at Warsaw Polytechnic. He joined the Polish underground army in 1940, but was taken prisoner in 1944 and sent to a POW camp in Germany. After being released he supported himself as an artist in Germany before moving to Massachusetts, USA, in 1951. He became a well-respected member of the vibrant Rockford Art Colony, taught and also exhibited regularly, having works in public and private collections. He was a member of many New England art associations, including the North Shore Art Assoc., The New England Watercolor Society (Boston Watercolor Society), and also the Salmagundi Club and American Professional League in New York, and was an elected member of the American Watercolor Society (AWS).

Ymunodd â byddin gwrthsafwyr gwlad Pwyl yn 1940, ond fe’i carcharwyd yn 1944 a’i anfon i wersyll yn yr Almaen. Ar ôl cael ei ryddhau cynhaliodd ei hun fel artist yn yr Almaen cyn symud i Massachusetts, UDA, yn 1951. Daeth yn aelod uchel ei barch o’r gymuned fywiog o artistiaid yn Rockford; bu’n dysgu ac yn arddangos yn rheolaidd ac mae nifer o’i weithiau mewn casgliadau cyhoeddus a phreifat. Roedd yn aelod o nifer o gymdeithasau celf yn New England, yn eu plith The Guild of Boston Artists, a hefyd y Salmagundi Club, a’r American Professional League yn Efrog Newydd, ac fe’i hetholwyd yn aelod o’r AWS (American Watercolor Society).

Hers is a landscape of storytellers, daydreamers and mischievous children, often in disguise.Texture and surface decoration are very important and Suzanne’s previous work with textiles is a major influence on her technique. After graduating with a degree in Fine Art from Cardiff College of Art in 1970, Gareth chose a teaching career, becoming head of Art and Design at Ysgol y Creuddyn, Llandudno - where, amongst others, he taught Bedwyr Williams. Gareth is a conceptual artist and his touring exhibitions represent the culmination of projects that are usually developed over 3 years. For example, the recent EnglUniau exhibition (which includes this work) mainly addressed the relationships between words, poetry and visual art. The content of his work is related to his background and awareness of being Welsh. His aim is to marry all this with formal considerations of visual art, concepts such as the painting as an object and illusions to do with the surface of the picture. Gareth was one of 30 artists who contributed images to David Greenslade’s volume of poetry Rarely Pretty Reasonable (2013).

“Hiraeth is at times a completely appropriate emotion, of course, but it is an emotion with which one must be careful. We must be mindful not to dwell too much in the past. This image is about ‘Hiraeth’. Here we see a person in the here and now but his mind is elsewhere. It is also an example of my love for the visual nature of words. Cynthia began painting as a hobby over 30 years ago while living and working in Baden- Wuerttemberg, Germany, attending classes at the Volkshochschule, Tuebingen, then learnt printmaking at the University of Tuebingen Drawing Institute. After returning to Wales in 1998, she became a founding member of ‘Printers in the Sticks’, a printmaking group based in ; she also exhibits her paintings and prints with Mid Wales Arts and Ceredigion Art Society. Most of my works have details and sub-stories that you may notice if you look longer... There is a narrative aspect in my paintings and I often have to write down what I have in mind before I start to paint it.” In 2016 Valériane was commissioned by the National Library of Wales to create a map of Wales as part of 'The Year of Legends' 2017. This Triptych also was part of an exhibition to celebrate the Mabinogion at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre. artist and poet. Edrica Huws was an artist who discovered her true métier, patchwork, when she was past fifty, bringing to patchwork an entirely new vision of its scope. Over the years, her reputation has grown and she is now internationally recognised as being one of the finest textile artists. She is much revered, not only in patchwork circles (see e.g. Deborah Wirsu, ‘Edrica Huws - Patchwork Pioneer’ (deborahwirsu.com Oct. 2015) but also by the wider artistic community, as an important artist. Edrica Huws (née Tyrwhitt) studied at Chelsea Art School and the Royal College of Art and was a successful freelance artist in London. However, marriage to Anglesey-born artist, sculptor and industrial designer Richard Huws in 1931 and bringing up 5 children meant that she had to abandon any thought of work as an artist. She began to keep her ‘rag-bags’ of material left over from dressmaking for the children and herself and collecting bits of fabric whilst living in Talwrn and thinking about the medium of patchwork. Towards the end of the 1950s, she took up art again but now with her original concept of creating patchwork pictures, insisting that the medium of patchwork should be considered as a serious art form. Her ‘Observations on the medium of patchwork’ (published in Edrica Huws Patchworks, 2007) gives a fascinating insight into her concept and the new methods she invented, the eye of a creative artist being always in evidence [see Lot 58]. Exhibitions of her work in France and in Japan brought much acclaim and most of her 187 patchworks are in collections in these countries (there is one work in the National Library of Wales’s collection). But it was not until the retrospective exhibition held by Oriel Ynys Môn in 2007 that Edrica’s extraordinarily original work was brought to the attention of an increasingly appreciative British audience. Ten years later (2017), the National Eisteddfod returned to Anglesey and celebrated Edrica Huws’s contribution by producing a limited edition of five special prints, of which this is one. This patchwork was commissioned by Kazuo Goto who sent a photo of his new viola to the artist.Her feeling of success with this work stimulated her last burst of creativity.

While he was a student in UCL, Alun studied printmaking part time at The Central School of Art, London, with Norman Ackroyd and, although he followed an academic career as a historian, printmaking has remained a passion. He is a member of Aberystwyth Printmakers. Alun has works in private collections in the UK and USA. argraffydd, hanesydd. artist, calligrapher (see lots 31, 50, 51), cartoonist and author. Tegwyn Jones is very well-known for his political cartoons in Welsh periodicals and other publications and he collects the works of other political cartoonists from several countries. He has also created cartoon portraits of eminent Welshmen including Saunders Lewis, which appeared on the cover of the Welsh periodical Barn, (December, 1973).

ceramic sculptor. Elected as a member of the International Academy of Ceramics in 2007, Meri is an internationally acclaimed ceramic sculptor and her work can be found in major collections in Europe as well as in Wales (she also shows at the Martin Tinney Gallery and The Cambrian Academy Conwy). She was instrumental in founding the International Ceramic Festival in Aberystwyth in 1987; this festival which is held every two years at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre is Europe’s premier ceramics festival (internationalceramicsfestival.org). Meri’s figurative sculptures are part human, part animal or bird; these characters are contemporary yet at the same time mythological – often relating to Welsh folklore – and they suggest emotions and tensions that lie under the surface of all human relationships. This maquette, wood-fired up to 1280 C. in the kiln at her studio outside Machynlleth, was the starting point for her series of large scale pieces on modern-day refugees which was commissioned for the ‘Crossings’ exhibition which toured Ireland and Wales 2017- 18; in 2017 Meri was invited to show the work in Germany and Catalunia, and also at the prestigious Galerie du Don in France. “Her large sculptures consist of a series of seven anthropomorphic clay figures, Walking, waiting. crossing, queuing. Their faces, with features reminiscent of rabbits and sheep, express fear, hopelessness and resignation. Their dignity and individuality has been taken away; they have become part of an anonymous crowd that is herded like animals to the boats. All they can do is wait patiently in line for their turn and pray for the best.” [see image below]

artist and sculptor. Edward Povey is a renowned symbolist artist. His work is highly acclaimed and collected. After a foundation course in fine arts at Eastbourne College of Art and Design in 1972-3 Edward studied at the University College of North Wales Bangor from 1974 and studied painting under Selwyn Jones. Although, over the years he has lived and worked in many parts of the world, he retained a foothold in North Wales and this work is from his early period when he lived in Bethesda. He is noted for his public murals on buildings in North Wales (and elsewhere) in the 1980s -1990s e.g. in Upper Bangor, Helter Skelter in Caernarfon, and Neuadd Powis, Bangor University – commissioned work: The Hall of Illusion 1993; the latter was named by The Times in 2005 as being one of the ten most important university-owned artworks in Britain. Over the years, his interest in symbolism and the relationship between art and the psyche developed, moviong through different ‘periods’ of researching new ways to evolve concepts until 2009, when he withdrew from gallery representation seeking a seclusion to re-evaluate his painting. 2013-15 saw the fruit of his radical new evolvement in which he collaborated with his second wife, the American artist Tolar Schultz, in building a new concept of combining abstraction and liminal figuration. (see poveyandschultz.com). He has exhibited widely and has works in public, corporate and private collections all over the world. To see works held in museum collections in Britain (a great many in Wales incl. Tirlun Cymru sy’n ei hysbrydoli, yn enwedig ôl dyn ar y tirlun, ac mae paentiadau mynegiadol beiddgar Mary yn nodedig am eu defnydd o liwiau llachar a chyfoethog. “Yn fy ngwaith rwyf yn anelu at adlewyrchu fy mherthynas â’r tir, fy ymwybyddiaeth o hanes, o drysorau ein llenyddiaeth a’n traddodiad llafar. Byddaf yn chwilio am ddulliau sy’n caniatáu i mi greu haenau yn fy nelweddau. Mae hyn wedi fy arwain i edrych ar ddechreuad ieithoedd ac ar farciau cynnar dynion ar gerrig, ar yr wyddor Ogam ac ar Goelbren y Beirdd.” (Oriel Martin Tinney).

“Mae fy mheintiadau yn ddathliad o anialdiroedd ac yn aml yn cynnwys cyfeiriadau at arwyddion a marciau dirgel a wnaed gan ein hynafiaid oedd â pherthynas efo’r byd naturiol yr ydym bellach wedi’i cholli.” Defnyddia Mary liwiau sydd wedi’u symbylu gan y palet cyfoethog a welir yn y tirlun lleol. “Er enghraifft, gallwch weld lliwiau porffor a choch rhyfeddol yn y grug, a thrwy ymgorffori hynny mewn gwaith rydych yn ei osod neu’n ei leoli, ond nid mewn modd hollol benodol. Mae Mary hefyd yn ymdeimlo â’r cysylltiad agos rhwng lliw a lliw/seiniau cerddorol, fel yr esboniodd i Andrew Green (erthygl ar arddangosfa yn Oriel Martin Tinney 2017, gwallter.com 17/11/17): “Mae gan bob gwaith unigol ei gywair, ei rhythm, ei offeryniaeth a’i symudiad deinamig ei hun.”

One of the most important artists working in Britain today. Shani Rhys James has developed over a long and distinguished career a unique and highly personal style of intense psychological power. Taking almost exclusively the female form – frequently herself – as her subject, Rhys James has continued to explore the role of women within domestic spaces. In recent work the female figure has become entwined with images of flowers, either in the wallpaper that surrounds them or as part of a still life composition. In Rhys James’s paintings, forms take on a life of their own, subverting the traditional ‘feminine’ arts of still life and home decorating.(connaughtbrown.co.uk) SRJ: “My desire is to produce powerful, emotional paintings which are read for their content, their colour and their abstract elements. I have to be emotionally and mentally taken over by my paintings ...” Shani has exhibited widely throughout her career and has won major awards; her work is featured in many important collections. The Rivalry of Flowers (Seren, 2013) was published to coincide with her solo exhibition. She has an exhibition – ‘The Inconstant State’ – at the Connaught Brown Gallery 20 April – 26 May 2018.

“I have been living in Aberystwyth for several years, and have been painting as a hobby for 18 years in acrylic pastel and watercolours.” (Ceredigion Art Trail 2017). Margaret regularly sells her work to raise money for the air ambulance and has raised over £2000.

“Rydw i wedi byw a gweithio yn Aberystwyth ers sawl blwyddyn, 18 o’r rheiny’n paentio fel hobi mewn pastel acrylig a dyfrlliw.” (Llwybr Celf Ceredigion, 2017). Mae Margaret yn gwerthu ei gwaith yn rheolaidd er mwyn codi arian i’r Ambiwlans Awyr ac wedi codi dros £2000.

Marcia Gibson-Watt is a graduate of Kingston Art College, where she specialised in Graphic Design. She has exhibited in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition on several occasions. Her work is characterised by an impressionist approach. She has specialised in miniatures and this is a print of one of her 'miniature pictures of Powys' 1988 exhibition at Bleddfa Gallery, Knighton.

Graddiodd Marcia o Goleg Celf Kingston, gan arbenigo mewn Dylunio Graffig. Mae wedi arddangos ei gwaith droeon yn Arddangosfa Haf yr Academi Frenhinol. Defnyddia ddull argraffiadol yn ei gwaith.
