Exhibitions Newsletter 2009 highlights 2008 FORMULA 1 SINGAPORE SINGTEL GRAND PRIX The world’s first night race and inaugural 2008 FORMULA 1 SINGAPORE SINGTEL GRAND PRIX was held on 26-28 September 2008 along the street circuit around Marina Bay. Kingsmen supplied & installed 20,000 grandstand seats; more than 130 corporate suites, the Paddock Club Entrance & Lifestyle Area; and various signage around the circuit under a multi-year contract. We worked alongside race promoter, Singapore GP Pte Ltd, & lead technical consultant, Kellogg Brown & Root Engineers Pte Ltd, & partnered seating specialist, Australian Seating Systems to develop the premium seating system & hospitality suites. The 2009 FORMULA 1 SINGAPORE SINGTEL GRAND PRIX will take place from 25-27 September 2009. highlights Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, China GE Imagination Centre One World, One Dream. The whole world laid their eyes on Beijing when China’s capital hosted the 29th Games of the Olympiad. The 17-day, multi-sport event saw 11,249 athletes from 204 countries compete in 302 medal events staged at gigantic state-of-the-art venues such as the iconic Bird's Nest & Water Cube. Once again, Kingsmen had a hand in making history by extending our full suite of exhibition & events services to clients like GE for the GE Imagination Centre, Buratti for Casa Italia pavilion & David Grand Special Events (DGSE) for London House, NBC & GE and Johnson & Johnson Hospitality Centres. Casa Italia Casa Italia aerospace Singapore Airshow 2008 The inaugural Singapore Airshow was held from 19–24 February 2008 at a brand new show site, Changi Exhibition Centre. As a leading exhibition & event services provider for airshows in Asia, Kingsmen partnered design houses & leading aerospace companies to produce more than 30 stands & chalets in this must-see event of the global aviation industry. Japan Aerospace 2008 Kingsmen has, for more than 25 years, provided design & fabrication services to leading aerospace companies & design houses for internationally-acclaimed airshows in Farnborough, Paris, Hong Kong, Seoul, Singapore, Malaysia & Japan. In last year’s Japan Aerospace, we partnered Messe Design for EADS, Lockheed Martin & Aaxico, among others, to showcase the latest trends & products in the aviation industry. energy & resources Water Expo at Singapore International Water Week 2008 Water Expo, a major trade show held in conjunction with the inaugural Singapore International Water Week, is a global platform to showcase the needs of the world demands for improved water solutions & eco-friendly infrastructure for environmental sustainability. We extended our design & fabrication services to leading water innovation & technology companies like Semb Corp, Salcon & CDM. Held from 23-27 June 2008, the tradeshow brought together more than 350 participants from some 40 countries. Doosan at Power-Gen Europe 2008, Italy In collaboration with European partner, Trifolium, Kingsmen designed & constructed Doosan’s 980-sqft. stand at Power-Gen Europe 2008. The design combined informative graphics, suspended signage & fittings of Doosan’s corporate colors for brand recognition. Kingsmen has worked with Doosan on various overseas exhibitions since 2003. automobile AGMC at Sharjah Motor Show 2008, UAE AGMC, the exclusive importer of BMW, MINI & Rolls-Royce in Dubai, Sharjah & the Northern Emirates, brought its latest BMW & MINI range to the Sharjah Motor Show 2008. Held at the Expo Centre Sharjah from 18-22 November, visitors at the AGMC stand saw a premium line-up of 16 models as well as an opportunity to participate in the BMW 1 Series Driving Skills Competition. Bangkok International Motorshow 2008, Thailand Kingsmen’s grip in supporting automobile shows was again shown through a 12-day show, from 26 March to 6 April, at Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC) with two leading motor companies, Lexus & Yamaha. JVC at Auto Expo 2008, India Kingsmen worked with world leader in consumer electronics, JVC, on its first participation at Auto Expo India 2008. Based on the client’s marketing objective, the design offered a feature wall that displayed JVC’s wide product range without cutting down space for customers to move around. The bright red color used was effective in drawing the visitors into the stand. With the theme, Mobility for All, the eight-day show recorded an attendance of1.8 million visitors from 29 countries. medical & health / infocomm Selex Communications at Tetra World Congress 2008, Hong Kong Two Kingsmen offices teamed up to create Selex Communications’ stand at the Tetra World Congress 2008 which, for the first time, was held outside of Europe. Designed by Kingsmen & built by Kingsmen, the stand displayed solutions for security, public safety & emergency, military & transportation. Tetra World Congress 2008 was held at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre in May 2008. Huge graphic prints of UEM’s development map were placed on the floor while scaled models of their properties were found at the center of the stand. The highlight of the design was the huge projection screen that runs across the perimeter of the stand, displaying UEM’s business strategies & achievements. Designed by Kingsmen, the stand was used again at Cityscape Dubai 2008. Singapore Supergarden ITB Berlin 2008 at Venice Biennale, Italy Dominican Republic The Singapore Pavilion at the Venice Biennale International ITB Berlin, the world’s leading travel tradeshow, was held in the Architecture Exhibition provided a platform for Singapore designers Dominican Republic from 5-9 March 2008. The purpose of this research is to determine the Anime Festival Asia's efforts in the spread of Japanese pop culture in Indonesia.This issue would be analyzed with the theory of diplomacy to analyze the spread of Japanese pop culture by Anime Festival Asia (AFA). The result showed Japan as a country using Soft Power Diplomacy in a cultural context has succeeded in establishing better cooperation and providing a culture of Japanese pop culture and has big interest especially among teenagers, and that success can be seen in Anime Festival Asia activities that show success and profit between the two countries that have cooperation.     BAB I PENDAHULUAN 1.1 Latar Belakang. Dalam tatanan dunia internasional, negara menggunakan beragam cara dalam pencapaian kepentingan nasionalnya. Salah satunya adalah penggunaan soft power. Menurut Nye, negara harus mampu menggunakan kekuatan soft power-nya untuk mencapai kepentingannya.1 Ada beberapa bidang yang menjadi kekuatan bagi suatu negara dalam melakukan soft power yakni budaya, politik dan sosial ekonomi. Jepang sebagai negara yang kaya akan budaya terkhususnya budaya tradisional populer memiliki potensi dalam pemaksimalan budaya tersebut sebagai alat penerapan kepentingan negaranya. Because public diplomacy uses media related to modern technology, then the development of communication technology also affects the forms of public diplomacy. Meanwhile, the most familiar to the development of communication technology is the young people. And one of the phenomena that are growing rapidly today among young people, is popular culture, shortly, pop culture. The Pop culture that emerging popularly in the world now such as anime, manga and cosplay come from Japan, and that media can be used to popularize Japanese culture and knowledge about Japan. This paper explores how the Japanese pop culture as public diplomacy and its influence in In- donesia. Key words: pop culture, anime, public diplomacy. 1. Diplomacy in International Relations Diplomacy is one part of the International Relations studies. In the sense of a traditional approach, diplomacy is understood as the art of negotiating with other countries. Diplomacy can also be interpreted as the art of promoting national interests to the international relations or other countries in various ways. In diplomacy we recognize the term of public diplomacy. The international relations dictionary mentions the definition of public diplomacy as a state’s attempt to influence public opinion in other countries by using instruments such as film, cultural exchange, radio, and television. E.H. Carr writes that the power of opinion is also important in the achievement of political objectives, just like military and economic power and has close ties to both.
