ANNEX a Business Events Pipeline ANNEX A Business Events Pipeline Singapore Airshow 2010 (February 2010) Singapore Airshow is Asia’s largest aerospace and defence event, as well as one of the top three air shows in the world. Singapore Airshow attracts top international aviation players such as ST Engineering, BAE Systems, The Boeing Company, Lockheed Martin and Rolls-Royce International. The 2008 Singapore Airshow, which showcased the latest innovation in the aviation and defence technologies, sealed more than US$13.4 billion worth of trade deals and attracted 30,000 trade visitors and over 90,000 public visitors. The result showed Japan as a country using Soft Power Diplomacy in a cultural context has succeeded in establishing better cooperation and providing a culture of Japanese pop culture and has big interest especially among teenagers, and that success can be seen in Anime Festival Asia activities that show success and profit between the two countries that have cooperation.     BAB I PENDAHULUAN 1.1 Latar Belakang. Dalam tatanan dunia internasional, negara menggunakan beragam cara dalam pencapaian kepentingan nasionalnya. Salah satunya adalah penggunaan soft power. Menurut Nye, negara harus mampu menggunakan kekuatan soft power-nya untuk mencapai kepentingannya.1 Ada beberapa bidang yang menjadi kekuatan bagi suatu negara dalam melakukan soft power yakni budaya, politik dan sosial ekonomi. Jepang sebagai negara yang kaya akan budaya terkhususnya budaya tradisional populer memiliki potensi dalam pemaksimalan budaya tersebut sebagai alat penerapan kepentingan negaranya. Because public diplomacy uses media related to modern technology, then the development of communication technology also affects the forms of public diplomacy. Meanwhile, the most familiar to the development of communication technology is the young people. And one of the phenomena that are growing rapidly today among young people, is popular culture, shortly, pop culture. The Pop culture that emerging popularly in the world now such as anime, manga and cosplay come from Japan, and that media can be used to popularize Japanese culture and knowledge about Japan. This paper explores how the Japanese pop culture as public diplomacy and its influence in In- donesia. Key words: pop culture, anime, public diplomacy. 1. Diplomacy in International Relations Diplomacy is one part of the International Relations studies. In the sense of a traditional approach, diplomacy is understood as the art of negotiating with other countries. Diplomacy can also be interpreted as the art of promoting national interests to the international relations or other countries in various ways. In diplomacy we recognize the term of public diplomacy. The international relations dictionary mentions the definition of public diplomacy as a state’s attempt to influence public opinion in other countries by using instruments such as film, cultural exchange, radio, and television. E.H. Carr writes that the power of opinion is also important in the achievement of political objectives, just like military and economic power and has close ties to both.
