The 2009 Kiedricher Gräfenberg Riesling Auslese Robert Weil is showing an entralling nose with notes of rich white stone fruits like nectarine and peach mixed with honey. The palate is unctuous showing some sweetness balanced with a bracing acidity and elegant raciness.

What is currently drinking well ? The 2010 Pinot Gris Grand Cru Brand, made by one of France ‘s best co-operative, is an amazing wine with an off-dry mouthfeel. The nose is showing a pronounced varietal character with ripe tree fruit aromas reminding me of pear and yellow plums. The underlying spicyness acts as a complexing factor.

What’s currently drinking well ? If you are looking for a great Chardonnay that punches way above its weight , then look no further as Domaine Boisson Vadot ‘s Bourgogne Blanc 20121 simply does the trick . The nose is intense with ripe stone fruits and a subtle toasty character. The palate shows a vivid level of freshness with a lemony finish that a lot of Puligny’s or Meursault do not have in this vintage . A real stunner !

2010’s are simply amazing and although most 1e1er crus and Grand crus will age gracefully, a lot of them are already showing well. I simply adore this superlative vintage as it reminds me somehow of the great 1990’s Burgundies with more precision.

Mâcon- Pierreclos Tri de Chavigne from Monsieur Guffens-Heynen 2002 , when not affected by premature oxidation are simply sensational ! If you have not tried his wines yet , here is a unique opportunity to do so , as this wine exhibits a ripe profile with notes of Cantaloup melon mixed with dried nuts and a waxy lanolin-like finish.

If you like your Pinot Noir with lots of bright fruit and a certain decadence then choose 2010 as they are all showing a high-toned fruit that is amazingly precise and focused. On the contrary if you like your Pinot showing more a baked fruit character then go for the 2009’s where the fruit is more concentrated .

Most 20102002’s in Burgundy are still offering a sensionnal purity of pretty fruit, only starting to demonstrate a pleasant tertiary side. 1996 was heralded as great vintage on the left bank of Bordeaux. Now 20 years of age, a lot of wines have now shed some of their firm tannins that allowed them to age gracefully. Any 1996 on this page is drinking like it should. Some showing more complexity than others but over all showing a pleasant tertiary nature.

If like me , you are amongst those who love white Bordeaux, then Château Couhins-Lurton 2004, made of 100% Sauvignon Blanc is an absolute stunner. I am not a fan of Sauvignon Blanc per se, but when like this one, it has developed and blossomed into a minerally infused elixir then it is quite easy to fall into the charm of this wine. Ever heard of Chiavennasca ? A variety also known as Nebbiolo in Italy’s Piedmont. Nino Negri’s wines in Valtelina are both showing the femine side of that grape with a lovely perfume that reminds me of rose petals and peony. The inferno shows a more ample body and displays fleshier tannins .

What’s currently drinking well !

Ever tried a white wine from the Spanish Basque Country, just bordering France ? If not try this one as this is simply a stunning expression of the local varieties. Namely Hondarribi Zuri with Hondarribi Zerratia ! This has a lovely refreshing character combining white flowers and citrus notes.

Malbec seems to be the variety in vogue at the moment . Well, we do have an amazing one coming from Tupungato , Argentina. Sophenia Synthesis 2013 is ample, showing a dark fruit component that is ultra -ripe , fleshy and quite opulent . The oak is fairly dominant but sweet and nicely integrated with classic coconut character mixed with vanilla notes.

Did you know !

Labels on vintage Port bottles only came in with EU regulations, prior to that, labels were not required and only the capsule bore the name of the Port house and vintage year. Thus many of the older vintage bottles have either no labels, or incomplete, indistinct labels due to extended cellar ageing. Please note that most vintage Ports require decanting as they throw a sediment during bottle ageing.

Declared vintages since the illustrious 1963 are 1966,1967,1970,1975,1977,1980,1982,1983,1985,1991,1992,1994,1997,2000,2003,2007,2011

Last Chance This section is dedicated to wines that are on the verge of becoming an extinct breed ! Yes this also can happen to wine ! Indeed , the list proposed below is made of wines that we have only 1or 2 bottles left of, often because of a vintage change. They are thus offered on first come, first served basis . They are by no means, lesser quality wines but simply wines where we can not guarantee continuity of stock .
