It is part of the formal attire or regalia prominent to a Sultan, King or the Yang DiPertuan Besar in Tanah Melayu states with a monarchy reign. As such, the tengkolok has been classified as a three-dimensional work of art. The objective of this research is to analyses the tengkolok as a magnificent piece of Malay art. This analysis is performed based on the available designs of the tengkolok derived from the Malay Sultanate in Malaysia. To illustrate this, the author uses a qualitative method of data collection in the form of writing. Results obtained showed that the tengkolok is a sublime creation of art by the Malays. This beauty is reflected in its variety of names and designs. The name and design of this headdress has proved that the Malays in Malaysia have a high degree of creativity in the creation of the tengkolok.

With this, this articleis written to document in further detail the binders of the Malay-inherited tengkolok especiallyin the state of Perak DarulRidzuan. Some questions need to be answered, such as ‘who arethe tengkolok binders in Perak?’, ‘how are the tengkolok-folding techniques used?’ and ‘whatare the etiquettes and taboo in the making of tengkolok?’. Offering explanation, aqualitative cultural approach will be adopted. Both interview and observation will be used toobtain data wither in writing or visually. The observation done has suggested that there arefour tengkolok binders who are still active in Perak. Each of them has their own respectivetengkolok folding techniques. This article will discuss the work of these binders, their foldingtechniques, the manner and etiquettes as well as the taboo in tengkolok-making.

JABATAN PERDANA MENTERI: ----------------------- 1. Timbalan Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri JOSEPH ENTULU BELAUN ialah bekas Menteri Muda Sarawak di Pejabat Ketua Menteri. Joseph, 49, Ketua Pemuda Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS), berkhidmat sebagai menteri muda di Sarawak sejak 1998. Pada pilihan raya umum baru lalu, bekas pensyarah perakaunan Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), yang bertanding kerusi Parlimen Selangau, menewaskan calon SNAP Liman Sujang dengan majoriti 3,616 undi. Pemegang ijazah sarjana dalam kewangan, pertama kali bertanding dalam pilihan raya umum negeri Sarawak pada 1991 dan menang kerusi negeri Tamin, serta mengekalkan kerusi itu pada pilihan raya negeri 1996. Dilahirkan di Tamin pada 8 Jun 1954, Joseph kini berumah tangga dengan dikurnia dua orang anak. Setiausaha Parlimen di Jabatan Perdana Menteri DATUK DR MASHITAH IBRAHIM, 39, adalah seorang pendakwah dan penceramah agama terkenal, yang telah menewaskan bekas imam besar Masjid Negara Datuk Taib Azamudden Md Taib dalam pilihan raya umum Ahad lepas. Mashitah menumpaskan penyandang kerusi Parlimen Baling itu dengan majoriti 4,100 undi. Bekas Pensyarah dan juga Penolong Profesor Jabatan Al-Quran dan Sains Kemanusiaan Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM) itu mempunyai ijazah kedoktoran dalam bidang Syariah daripada Universiti Cairo dan ijazah sarjana muda pengajian Islam daripada Universiti Al-Azhar. Anak kelahiran Alor Star ini, kini bergiat dalam bidang perniagaan dengan mengusahakan sebuah butik busana muslim di Gombak, Selangor.

    30 APR 2001 Umno-Roundup A BLEND OF OLD AND NEW FACES AMONG UMNO DIVISION CHIEFS KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi were among the Umno division chiefs who were returned unopposed in the divisional elections held throughout this month. In KEDAH, Dr Mahathir, who has been leading the Kubang Pasu division since 1974, was among 11 of the 15 division heads who retained their posts, six of them without contest. Others who won the post uncontested include the Prime Minister's Religious Adviser Datuk Paduka Abdul Hamid Othman (Sik), Tun Daim Zainuddin's political secretary Datuk Arzmi Abd Hamid (Merbok) and Culture, Arts and Tourism Minister Datuk Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir (Kulim/Bandar Baharu). Apart from Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Syed Razak Syed Zain who was returned unopposed in Kuala Kedah, there were three other new faces, all former deputy chiefs who managed to beat their "bosses". They are state executive councillor Datuk Zainol Md Isa who beat former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Raja Ariffin Raja Sulaiman in Baling, former executive councillor Abdul Rahman Ariffin who beat Datuk Hanafi Ramli in Jerlun, and another former executive councillor Datuk Ghazali Ibrahim who beat former Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr Afiffuddin Omar in Padang Terap. However, the election results in Padang Terap have yet to be confirmed after a complaint was lodged with the Kedah Umno Elections Committee that there were more ballot papers than the number of delegates present during voting.

    ISSN 2411-9571 (Print) European Journal of Economics May-Aug 2017 ISSN 2411-4073 (online) and Business Studies Vol. 8 Nr. 1 Malaysian Product Design Identity: Review on the ‘Keywords’ Amirul Fahmi Razali, David Hands Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA), Lancaster University, United Kingdom Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, UniSZA, Malaysia Abstract Considering Malaysia as a multi-ethnic country, it is difficult to determine and define the cultural identity to represent Malaysia (Mun, Fern, & Chin, 2015), and use it as a characteristic in designing a product. This has been a challenging issue for most Malaysian local designers to design a Malaysia-look product based on a national identity characteristic. There is no proof that the product characteristic can be summed up or generalized based on the understanding of multi-ethnic agreement decision-making (Zainal, Othman, & Samsudin, 2015). With regards to Malaysia, the primary issue is about the national identity identification for product design. This issue then prompted to the question that would Malaysian designers be able to establish a Malaysian product with a national identity by looking at this multi-ethnic society? This research reviews the literature concerning Malaysian identity based on articles and visuals. It aims at getting the general keywords related to the components in culture and yet to be incorporated with the design characteristics at the beginning of ideation process. The basis of this study is referring to the dominant culture study by Edensor (2002), cultural identity components evaluation by Ibrahim (2015), and culture and identity ‘key issues’ by Clarke (2011). By understanding the cultural component within the society, pulling out the keywords, and validating the chosen keywords by conducting a survey, these keywords will act as the guidance in visualising a characteristic; and there will be greater chances for Malaysian designer to success in developing products with strong Malaysian identities.
