EXPO 2017 Workshop Brochure EN Finale EXPO 2017 - Future Energy – Workshop on the Space Business in “Casa Italia” “The Space, as Italian Development Model of High Technological Sectors for Energetic Applications” Inspire and facilitate the use of space technology, systems and know-how for future energy application. 22 nd July 2017 Astana, Kazakhstan Objective The workshop is aimed to present the Italian cutting-edge space technologies, expertize and prospects, highlighting those related to the energy sectors developed in the Italian industrial systems of Lazio and Piemonte. The mission is to inspire and facilitate the use of space technology, systems and know-how for future energy application. Thales Alenia Space is the main Italian space industry, it is present in Italy with important industrial production sites in both the regions Lazio and Piemonte. It is the joining link of an economic innovative model, the Space Economy model. The Space Economy model represent the space value chain that starts from the R&D, goes to the realization of the space infrastructure and reaches till satellite innovative products generation and services (i.e. telecommunication, navigation, positioning and environmental monitoring and services .etc). The workshop will present the space assets and technologies along with possible down- stream applications customized for Kazakhstan, such as Earth Observation monitoring of strategic infrastructures such as electric grid, natural resource management. The possibilities to cope the telecommunication capabilities of KazSat2 and KazSat3 with the one of KazEOSat-1 (DZZ-HR) and KazEOSat-2 (DZZ-MR) and enhance them with COSMO-SkyMed ones. Finally, going beyond our planet, the possibility to adapt space exploration technologies in non-space sectors such as fuel cell for the generation of energy in the space. Energy is always a big challenge point in space exploration both to sustain exploration mission and to sustain life out of our planet. The workshop is oriented to a top level audience such as Govern and Defense representatives along with the main Kazakhstan’s companies such as KAZENERGY, National Company KazMunayGas (KMG), the National Information Technologies JSC, Samruk-Kazyna JSC, KAZGEOCOSMOS, Kazakhstan Center of Geographic Information Systems LLP, Centre for Remote Sensing and GIS Terra, Leica Geosystems Kazakhstan LLP and others. The workshop will represent the space system and the competencies developed and will leave space to the Kazakha presenting their excellences and their development planes. Companies Presentation Thales Alenia Space, is a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), is a key European player in space telecommunications, navigation, Earth observation, exploration and orbital infrastructures. Thales Alenia Space and Telespazio form the two parent companies' “Space Alliance”, which offers a complete range of services and solutions. Because of its unrivaled expertise in dual (civil/military) missions, constellations, flexible payloads, altimetry, meteorology and high-resolution optical and radar instruments, Thales Alenia Space is the natural partner to countries that want to expand their space program. The company posted consolidated revenues in excess of 2 billion euros in 2014, and has 7,500 employees in eight countries. Telespazio, a joint venture between Leonardo (67%) and Thales (33%), is one of Europe’s leaders and one of the world’s main players in satellite solutions and services. The company has its headquarters in Rome, Italy, and is supported by a staff of approximately 2500 people. Telespazio operates worldwide through numerous companies, and has a wide international network of space centers and teleports. In particular, it is present: in France with Telespazio France; in Germany with Telespazio VEGA Deutschland, GAF and Spaceopal (a joint venture in which the German space agency DLR holds a 50% interest); in the United Kingdom with Telespazio VEGA UK; in Spain with Telespazio Iberica and in Romania with Rartel. Telespazio has a consolidated presence in South America with Telespazio Brasil and Telespazio Argentina. In Italy, the company is also present through e-GEOS (in which the Italian Space Agency holds a 20% interest). Telespazio is a leading company in “key” sectors for public institutions, business operators and consumers, with activities ranging from the design and development of space systems to the management of launch services and in orbit satellite control; from Earth observation services, integrated communication, satellite navigation and localization, to scientific programmes. Telespazio relies on a wealth of experience of the highest level, stemming from technological expertise acquired over 50 years of business practice. The Company’s experience is also drawn from the management of space infrastructure - including the Fucino Space Centre, one of the world’s largest civilian teleports - as well as from its qualified involvement in space programmes of great significance, including: Galileo, EGNOS, Copernicus, COSMO-SkyMed, SICRAL and Göktürk. The company now covers the whole space market value chain through its three lines of business: Satellite Communications, Geo Information, Satellite Systems and Operations. Telespazio responds to new demands in the market with innovative ideas and solutions. Today, more than ever, Telespazio is a true innovator, transforming what were once just possibilities into real services available to an increasingly wide audience worldwide. e-GEOS, an ASI (20%) / Telespazio (80%) company, is a leading international player in the Earth Observation and Geo-Spatial Information business. e-GEOS offers a unique portfolio of application services, also thanks to the superior monitoring capabilities of COSMO-SkyMed constellation, and has acquired leading position within European Copernicus Program. Application services include: monitoring for environmental protection, rush mapping in support to natural disaster management, specialized products for defense and intelligence, oil spill and ship detection for maritime surveillance, interferometric measurements for landslides and ground subsidence analysis, thematic mapping for agriculture and forestry. In support to its operational applications, e-GEOS operates the Matera Space Centre for acquisition, archiving and processing of multi-mission satellite data including COSMO- SkyMed and ESA Sentinels The Space Alliance, founded in 2005, is a strategic partnership between Leonardo and Thales, the major industrial groups in the aerospace industry in Italy and France. It includes two joint ventures: Telespazio (Leonardo 67%, Thales 33%) and Thales Alenia Space (Thales 67%, Leonardo 33%). The complementary capabilities of Thales Alenia Space in satellite systems and Telespazio in the services associated with them provides the Space Alliance all the assets needed to respond positively and effectively to the needs of the market, which today are increasingly focused on applications related to space technologies. In this scenario, Telespazio and Thales Alenia Space have a unique offering of its kind, ranging from the field of communications to navigation, as well as scientific research and observation, which enables both companies to consolidate their position in the aerospace and defence and security markets. Through regular meetings of the steering committee, chaired by the Chief Executive Officers of Telespazio and Thales Alenia Space, it aims to consolidate the international and transnational strategies on the major programmes. The aim is to seize new opportunities, demonstrating an increasing flexibility in order to meet the needs of customers with a competitive approach, focusing on research and innovation to strengthen the product portfolio. All this is possible thanks to the expertise, professionalism and commitment of our people, who are the heart of the Space Alliance. .
