The following file consists of auction or gallery sales of works by, or attributed to, Conrad Martens between 1895 and the present (1989). Prior to 1895 Martens' works were sold by the artist himself (see Martens' "Account of Pictures Painted at N.S.Wales [1835-78]") and at Art Unions (see also "Exhibitions and Art Unions" file), or by private individuals. The following document lists sales from Australian auction rooms and galleries, plus a few from England. It is arranged according to the auction house or gallery, and then chronologically. View from the rangers, Mosman Bay c1845 W/C 39.5 x 59cm Bn Spr/80 * 4 Signed `C.Martens' l.r. 15 1/2 x 23 1/4". `Rangers' was the property of Oswald Bloxsome on the north shore. Illustrated. Possibly "Mossmans Bay" sold by Martens to Bloxsome for #20.20. in 1858.

Date in error - most likely executed in the 1860's or 1870's. Possibly "Road scene approach to Crown Ridge or Blackmans Crown on the Muddgee Road" sold by Martens to Josiah Austen for #25 in January 1877

Thornthwaite c1845 W/C & White 44 x 63.5cm Bn 1/9/82 * 3 Signed `C.Martens' l.r. Illustrated. Erroneous date - actually commissioned / purchased by Joseph Docker on 25 December 1863 for 20 guineas. The property, situated near Scone, NSW, had been visited and sketched by Martens on Friday, 9 May, 1863 (see DL PX18 f.3). This watercolour is based on a pencil sketch titled "Thornthwaite. J.Docker Esq." (ML PXD307-4 f.9, Illustrated Dundas, 1979, p.85). Re-sold at Sothebys, Melbourne, 27 March 1988, lot 298.

Here we find eight watercolour studies after various contemporary artists such as Turner, Harding, Copley Fielding (under whom he studied) and with a closing date, London July 3, 1832.
