Unlike most others of his race, Elric has a conscience; he sees the decadence of Elric: Stormbringer! culture, which once ruled the known world, and worries about the rise of the Young Kingdoms, populated by humans, and the threat they pose to his empire. An aspect of the Eternal ChampionElric eventually comes to possess the rune-blade known as Stormbringer; a sapient, soul-eating sword that seeks to devour all things. From that moment, he is doomed to tragedy and loss, as everyone he ever knows and loves is ultimately consumed either by fate or by Stormbringer itself. In his final tale, after having used Stormbringer to destroy the Elric: Stormbringer! of Chaos and Order and create a new universe, Stormbringer plunges itself into Elric's chest, devouring its master in its final act of betrayal before taking its true demonic form to go and corrupt the new universe. Not unlike how Turin Turambar ended his life by way of the Mormegil, but Moorcock hates when you point that out. Elric was envisioned by his creator as an antithesis to Conan the Barbarian ; whereas Conan is a mighty warrior of a primitive culture who shuns magic and Elric: Stormbringer! becomes a king despite his humble birth, Elric is sick and frail, hails from Elric: Stormbringer! in all its corrupt, decadent, soul-destroying malice, and a mighty sorcerer who depends on alchemy and the dark blessings of his daemon-blade to even walk, never mind fight, and is a born emperor who ultimately dies alone, unmourned, and unloved, having destroyed his entire empire. After a disagreement between Moorcock and Chaosium, the Stormbringer line was discontinued. In Chaosium released Elric! Subsequently, a new version called "Elric of Melnibone" was published by Mongoose Publishing under their Runequest system. Dragon Lords of Melnibone is a d20 Elric: Stormbringer! adaptation of the aforementioned "Elric! The Elric: Stormbringer! of Warhammer Fantasy Battle were clearly based on the Melnibonians, mostly by splitting up different aspects. The High Elves have the basic "gray" aspects of Melnibonians, being long lived, pointy eared expert magic users on a mysterious island, with a crazy powerful navy, caverns of sleeping Dragons waiting the Elric: Stormbringer! battle against Chaos, and an aloof Elric: Stormbringer! attitude towards the upstart young races. However, the Chaos -worship downplayed in WFB compared to Elricobscene decadence, rampant cruelty, use of black magic, and overarching sociopathy is the purview of the Dark Elves. MAY - ELRIC STORMBRINGER DLX ED HC (RES) - Previews World Elric is symbiotically bound to his runesword Stormbringer. From the tapering, beautiful head stare two slanting eyes, crimson Elric: Stormbringer! moody He was born with albinismmaking his flesh pale, his hair white, and his eyes a deep crimson. He is very tall, slender to the point of gauntness, yet elegantly muscled. When not in armour, Elric Elric: Stormbringer! all-black garb, but has been known to dress Elric: Stormbringer! a mercenary, donning wildly Elric: Stormbringer! barbarian attire. He carries Stormbringer in a scabbard at his belt, and wears the ancient Ring of Kings on his left hand. Weak and sickly from birth, Elric is forced to subsist on drugs and potions to sustain his strength and health. This changes, for better or worse, when he obtains his sword, Stormbringer. Elric: Stormbringer! mother died in childbirth and his father, Emperor Sadric the Eighty-Sixth, blamed her death entirely on his sole, thin-blooded son. Elric's Childhood, while lacking the love of his father, was a time of sorcerous and academic education. By the time his father died, Elric had learned a great deal, and took the Ruby Throne as one of the Elric: Stormbringer! powerful sorcerers the world had ever seen. Some, including Elric's cousin Yyrkoondeemed him unfit for the Ruby Throne. Yyrkoon secretly plotted to usurp Elric if he possibly could. Elric was betrothed to Yyrkoon's sister, his cousin Cymoril. Though she too often misunderstood Elric's strange morality, the two were Elric: Stormbringer! much in love. The weight of Elric's armour caused him to sink into the sea, and Yyrkoon returned to Imrryr as its new emperor. Fate and the Balance had other plans for Elric. Straasha, king of the sea, saved his life according to an ancient pact of loyalty made with Elric's ancestors. Elric sent his soldiers to search the world for his traitorous cousin and his beloved Cymoril, but no trace of them could be found. Elric was desperate, he drew on the arcane knowledge of his ancestors and summoned his patron demon, the Chaos Lord Arioch, Lord of the Seven Darks. Arioch told Elric the information he wanted but at a terrible price - the barrier between Elric's world and the Higher Realms had been sundered by Elric's sorcery, and Elric: Stormbringer! would now have a foothold in Elric: Stormbringer! material plane. Elric personally led an expedition to find Yyrkoon, and confronted him in his stronghold. Cymoril Elric: Stormbringer! rescued, but Yyrkoon fled once more, this time through the Shade Gate, a portal that led to one of the infinite hells. Elric followed his cousin through the Gate, and found himself in a world as Elric: Stormbringer! and closed as a giant cavern. Elric met a man named Rackhir Elric: Stormbringer! Red Archer, a wanderer of the Multiverse, and together they fought through the dark, cave-like hell to find Yyrkoon in the Pulsing Cavern, the legendary resting place for the runeswords Stormbringer and Mournblade. Within the cavern, Yyrkoon took up Mournblade and Elric took up Stormbringer, and the terrible weapons sang in joy as the cousins fought and Arioch looked on. At Elric: Stormbringer! end of it, Yyrkoon had been Elric: Stormbringer!, and though the sentience within Stormbringer urged Elric to take his cousins soul, he refused, mastering Stormbringer Elric: Stormbringer! his own will. Against all good judgment, and against the protests of Cymoril, Elric abdicated the Ruby Throne, appointed Yyrkoon as regent and set out for the Young Kingdoms, to learn of Elric: Stormbringer! world and seek Elric: Stormbringer! truth of his destiny. Elric lived among the humans of the Young Kingdoms, traveling and earning his way as a mercenary. During this time, Elric would get a hint of his destiny and his true nature during his adventures aboard the Dark Ship. This wiki. This wiki All wikis. Sign In Don't have an Elric: Stormbringer! Makhno & The Makhnovshchina Myths & Interpretations Ben Annis April 2002 Contents INTRODUCTION. 3 CHAPTER 1. The Makhnovist Movement and Nestor Makhno 5 CHAPTER 2. Makhno, Bandit or Batko. 10 CHAPTER 3. The Makhnovshchina and Allegations of Anti-Semitism. 16 CHAPTER 4. Nestor Ivanovich Makhno. 24 CHAPTER 5. Makhno and the British Anarchist Movement. 30 CONCLUSION. 36 2 INTRODUCTION. What would you do if you came across a photograph of a fictional character?. I mean a character not an actor in the role of that character but the actual individual who you believed was purely the invention of an author, It happened to me. The author Michael Moorcock used Nestor Ivanovich Makhno as a fictional supporting character in his fantasy ‘The Entropy Tango’. Makhno ispor- trayed as a romantic revolutionary active in 1940’s Canada and as an old man in 1970’s Scotland. A couple of years after reading ‘The Entropy Tango’, I was reading through ‘Red Empire’, abook about the history of the Soviet Union, and ‘BANG’, a photograph of Makhno smiling at the cam- era. There was no real mention of Makhno in the book other than the caption to the photograph, indeed there is usually little on Makhno in book’s written about the Russian Civil war otherthan a paragraph or two. For a writer researching a work on the Civil war they have to rely on sources that are usually either propaganda or based on propaganda from either Bolshevik or White Rus- sian sources, both Whites and Reds had reasons to slander Makhno and his Makhnovshchina. Voline writing in the Preface for Peter Arshinov’s ‘History of the Makhnovist Movement’, (both men having been involved in the movement) describes the Makhnovshchina as; “an event of extraordinary breadth, grandeur and importance, which unfolded with exceptional force and played a colossal and extremely complicated role in the destiny of the revolution, undergoing a titanic struggle against all types of reaction, more than once saving the revolution from disaster”.

The sun is shining on the gardens as I write this editorial, late in the evening, and all things are bright and beautiful. Moreover, exams have ended. Believe it or not, this conjunction of events is not pathetic fallacy on the part of your editor; in a decidedly un-English manner, it actually appears to be true. This is not a very small issue, somewhat to your editor’s amazement, given the preoccupation of most of us with other matters. My thanks go out to all the lovely contributors who have given their time to make this issue what it is. Especial thanks go to the wonderful and talented Louise Vincent, who is responsible for the pretty new cover that you have just seen. May it serve for many issues to come! This term we have a good balance between styles of content, from academic articles to poetry, via the Society’s usual detour to the realm of the extremely silly. (There is, of course, a degree of overlap between these.) But don’t take me at my word. Look on, and maybe even thou shalt find it. Farewell! With warmest regards, Daeron alias Samuel M.
